Sound Of 2010 artists

Happy New Year! You are now officially farther into The Future than anyone has ever been before, including Neil Armstrong and David Tennant. Or at least, we were a second ago. And now we are again! And again! (repeat times infinity)....

To celebrate, the Ö÷²¥´óÐã are taking a look into the even more distant future, and having a guess at which people we will be listening to the most throughout 2010.

Yep, it's time for this year's Sound Of 2010 poll. Future pop stars today! Always exciting!

From January 4th, there will be a Top 5 countdown, with special features on each act and a winner announced on the 10th. Previous winners include Mika, Adele and Little Boots. But, to make sure we're all fully prepared for the year ahead, musically speaking, a long-list has been announced. It looks a lot like this (quite D-heavy, as you'll see):

Daisy Dares You
Delphic
Devlin
The Drums
Everything Everything
Giggs
Gold Panda
Ellie Goulding
Hurts
Joy Orbison
Marina and the Diamonds
Owl City
Rox
Stornoway
Two Door Cinema Club

Full details on each act are on the Sound of 2010 website.

And if that just looks like a list of random words, well that's what these kind of predictive things are about, new horizons and all that. You probably remember Ellie Goulding though, cos she's the young lady who has already won that crazy psychic Brit Award for not having done anything yet.

In a way, this is the same kind of thing, but there's more people on the list to start with, and in any case the Brits panel didn't ask me to vote on their award, like the Sound of 2010 people did, so I'm officially against it until they do.

What? You'd be exactly the same. Yes you would.

Now, who's coming back to the future with me? All of you? Smashing...

    Happy New Year, Charblog!

And now I'm further into the future than anyone else... and now...and now...and now...

It's a decent list this year not as good as 2009 or 2008 but better than two before them. Can't see any super stars like 50 Cent or Lady Gaga coming from this year's list though, they all seem a little too quirky to be global successes.

Great stuff , we have been discussing this on Rybak for a couple of weeks now , and it certainly makes for interesting debate amongst music lovers .

My five big tips for 2010 :

    THE DRUMS
    MARINA AND THE DIAMONDS
    HURTS
    ROX
    DELPHIC .

The Drums are currently unsigned in the UK , but a deal is iminent , and just by hearing their E.P Summertime , I can hear future hits in waiting.
This band will have a silver selling album at least in 2010 .

Marina is half Welsh and helf Greek , and is very beautiful in person.
Her debut single Hollywood will be a top 40 hit at least .
Her album is out February 15th .
Wanna know who the Diamonds are ?
Marina is a solo artist and she says that the Diamonds are her fans.

Hurts are a duo from Manchester named Theo and Adam.
Their first single Wonderful Life has been remixed by Arthur Baker to great effect . It will be a low key release in early Feb .
Their first proper single will come in May .
Watch out for future songs called Happiness and Unspoken .

Rox is Roxanne Tataei whose voice I really like .
She has an emotive song called Sad Eyes and her album Memoirs will be out in a couple of months.

Delphic release a really good song called Doubt in a couple of days.
Debut album ACOLYTE is out mid January .

We all know Ellie Goulding will have a good 2010.

    Exciting times ahead....

It's strange every time I listen to Hurts I like them a little bit more, it makes me feel bad now for dismissing them so early on.

  • Comment number 5.

Actually listening to Marina again she sounds a lot better, seems I've got used to her singing style. Had no problem with the music it was just the way she sings that annoyed me.

  • Comment number 6.

    "You look like Catherine-Zeta

    Actually , my names MARINA ! "

    Love it !

  • Comment number 7.

As I said my favourite at the moment is probably Hurts.

Although Marina is a close second. I think she's got a bit og an edge to her that Ms. Goulding seems to lack..

  • Comment number 8.

Yeah Wonderful life is a very good song , and trust me , there is even better to come.

    Potential indeed ....

  • Comment number 9.

yea that wonderful life track is good stuff.. ellie goulding is gonna be huge... really like the drums, lets go surfing frames an element of the sport so well... heard marina a while back now, very strong.. suprised there has been little about owl city, really like this band althou they have been out a while.. i think they released their second album in july.. listen to 'cave in'

  • Comment number 10.

Yeah, I'm a big fan of Wonderful Life too!

Can't wait to hear more from them

  • Comment number 11.

Oh Owl City. I have heard them. Duh. Number one in America not long ago. Thought it was distinctly average, but easy listening.

  • Comment number 12.

The only ones I've wanted to listen to more than once were Owl City, Delphic and Marina. Ellie Goulding is OK as well but I'm not sure I'd rush out and buy it. Also quite liked Stornoway and Two Door Cinema Club but think they'll be those bands who quietly beaver away behind the scenes and make a good critically acclaimed album that no one really buys. Ditto the Drums and Everything Everything - I do like them but am not sure it'll work for everyone.

Based on numbers 5 to 2 (I won't spoil it for anyone who hasn't already seen it) I think the top spot is Owl City's to lose out of the ones that are left.

  • Comment number 13.

Boringly it'll probably be Ellie Goulding. Doubt they will put an American artist as number 1.

  • Comment number 14.

... so it's ellie goulding.. she has got a good sound and if she can put an album out which is the same class as starry eyed and sheets then shes on for a win..

liam listen to cave in by owl city if you are willing to give them another try

  • Comment number 15.

    predictable.com for the poll.

Will of course give Owl City more listens. I liked 'Fireflies' but as I said, thought it was a bit average.

  • Comment number 16.

So far, the big sound of 2010 has been footsteps on snow, followed by a brief sliding noise accompanied by a yelp, then a moment's silence, then a big crunch accompanied by "ouch my arse" or something more profane.

  • Comment number 17.

Yes the top 5 was predictable , me and Harry listed it on Rybak , 2 weeks ago .

Instead of Ellie Goulding who we both knew would win , he added Two Door Cinema Club , and I added Rox to the other 4 , just for fun.

    Harry , you are a genius !!

  • Comment number 18.

I know I have " banged on " about THE DRUMS for quite a while now , but has anyone seen who is on the front cover of the N.M.E this week ?

    Ha !

  • Comment number 19.

loving the pun... but i am kinda moving away from the drums... surfing and i felt stupid are the best tracks by a country mile.. and they arn't like.. superduper..

marina and diamonds is catching my attention more.. heard robot a long time ago.. she hasn't made a bad song.. also hurts grow on me.. especially some of the remixes of wonderful life

  • Comment number 20.

    Hollywood is brilliant.

    Oh. My. God.

  • Comment number 21.

I heard Hurts on the morning they were announced as Number 4, and wasn't too fussed.

Have listened to he Delphic song once now, and thought it was OK. Might need another listen.

HOWEVER, I listened to a couple of Ellie Goulding's songs, and was quite impressed. I like it. May go off and try Marina in a bit.

  • Comment number 22.

Marina > Ellie so far in my books.

  • Comment number 23.

OK, I do like the Delphic song.

Marina - um, no, not for me thanks.

The best part of the last 15 minutes was that listening to I Felt Stupid by the Drums prompted me to introduce my girlfriend to Love Changes (Everything) by Climie Fisher, as she'd never heard it.

  • Comment number 24.

If you play your gorgeous girlfriend..

Love changes everything by Michael Ball, by accident...

You might get some strange looks . . .

  • Comment number 25.

Me and my girlfriend are going out for a meal tonight , to celebrate a special occasion.

She has picked the restaurant , and as it's a buffet style , I asked her which foods she recommends...

    Her answer..

" OH , you have got to try the charismatic duck ! "

    lol

    Classic !

  • Comment number 26.

How was the charismatic duck? Was it any better than the charming chicken?

  • Comment number 27.

    The chicken was foul !

  • Comment number 28.

    Cymbal Crash!

  • Comment number 29.

Chicken jokes aside a new Hurts song Blood Tears & Gold can be heard from Zane Lowe's blog as of this moment. Sounds like a big single.

  • Comment number 30.

he only had 1 top 10 hit

  • Comment number 31.

"He only had 1 top ten hit ! "

Who... Zane Lowe or the chicken ?

  • Comment number 32.

Sorry posted in the wrong forum, have no idea how i did that. If only I could put something about lady gaga so it could be removed.

  • Comment number 33.

Yeah , love that Hurts track .

That is the one with the choir that I was going on about .
