You know it's going to be a hot one. Well, what a fantastic show that was for a Friday. Lee Mack joined me, and you bombarded me with your barbequeing tips for the sizzling weekend ahead. And what a creative bunch you are. Stan Dupp's recipe for success is to pop a banana on the barbie. You slit the skin, push in some chocolate, wrap it in some foil, and give it ten minutes of heat. Then when the foil is opened, the skin will be black, the banana soft and the chocolate melted - top notch! But Mark in Wilmcote takes those bananas to the next level, by cutting them into chunks then wrapping them in bacon. But be sure to secure them with a cocktail stick - and go easy on the heat! James in Derby preferred a large flat mushroom - cooked for 10 minutes per side, served in a bread cob, and eaten like a burger. The juices are just incredible, he reckons.

Last word goes to Chas, who suggests that you've just got to sacrifice your first 4 sausages to get it fired up, and then it's hot hot hot ready for a juicy steak!

Now get that factor 50 on folks!

In other news, The Baby Race is on, my wife versus five listener ladies all due on the same day, Monday 28th. Who will be first past the post ? No movement of any kind in the Evans household as of yet. We shall see.

Right, off home to try to resist going to watch the BMW PGA which is taking place just around the corner. This is not going to be easy.

I'm already as pink as an embarrassed pink thing and my skin hasn't yet been exposed to today's sun - the hottest of the year thus far. Is the heat good for bringing on the baby fast-track, does anyone know ?

Off home to spray on the factor 50 as a day outdoors is scheduled till five - ish. Shades, a very large brimmed hat and as many shadows as I can hide in is my plan for the afternoon. After that, Pimms with Tash and another spicy curry. Baby has to be out in time for The Monaco Grand Prix. Wouldn't want him to miss that for the world.

...but I feel today may be verging on the downright naughty. However it is all for Children In Need. And our 2 generous bidders Sunil and Ian deserve a day they will never forget. Having bid £140,000 to Children in Need today they will have the pleasure of taking on top class world golfers Lee Westwood and current Open Champion Darren Clarke. Lots of kind-hearted people have also thrown their generosity into the ring from the Langham Hotel in London, Coworth Park in Ascot and especially Michael and Mary Parkinson at their fantastic Michelin Star Restaurant The Royal Oak. It should be a great day indeed, in fact it is guaranteed. Listen in for an update on who won tomorrow.

...it was having those three magi of the musical world in on the show this morning - Gary Barlow, Gareth Malone and Lord Lloyd WebCaster. And how about that song Sing? I mean, seriously, how good is it ? Very very clever to have all the pressure of an order from The Queen and manage to pull it off.

Hot footed it off straight away when we came off air to blat down to Cornwall and tonight's One Show live from RNAS Culdrose to welcome The Olympic Torch to the shores of Great Britain. All very exciting. And when just waking up every day is a bonus, days like today can make me feel almost faint with giddyness.

On tomorrows show - Gary Barlow brings in his song by Royal Appointment. I've heard it, it's beautiful. Don't miss it. There is also a huge reveal to do with who the main vocalists are. Plus, tomorrow night on The One Show - there will be the world premier of the video when we broadcast live from RNAS Couldrose where we will also be welcoming the Olympic flame to the shores of The UK.

No time to blink at the moment.

...Oh What A Night. The Sony Radio Awards 2012. A mere thirty seven awards, three live performances, a three course meal, drinks before hand, and a disco afterwards. I'm surprised we're not still there. And on the naughtiest of school nights as well - a Monday.

Well done to the team for their win. They so deserve it, the award was taken home by the ex boss and seven year incumbent of having to put up with me - Ms Helen Thomas.

Of course we wouldn't even be here if it wasn't for you guys - so on behalf of all the team, all the time, thank you to Sony, but most of all thank you to you.

Always both great and late, sometimes really great and far too very late. Not good on a school night especially if you have a breakfast show to do the next day. We shall see. A lot of my pals are up for various bits and bobs, so I hope to see as many of them on stage as poss during my hosting duties. We start at 6.45. I will tweet any highlights at @achrisevans throughout the night.

With live performances from Mr Barlow, Miss J and Miss Burke the evening should well be one to remember.

Full as an egg. Bank holiday ! What bank holiday? - seems like a month ago. That's how life should be. The last twenty four hours have been a bit of a blur. Vassos and I spent Wednesday night afloat on me little boat, back to London for a fabulous 2day concert at The 100 Club. Bed for a couple of hours, Breakkie Show then off to The One Show and now, early Saturday morning, on my way to French France for a spot of classic motor car racing. Don't forget to breathe Evans. Monday is The annual Sony Radio Awards, next Friday is The One Show live from Cornwall when the Olympic torch arrives. Plus Mrs E will be six days closer to blast off with son number two due to make an appearance circa May 28th.

Last night I saw an amazing sunset. As I reached a small area of open land close to my home in Hertfordshire, the sun, large, round and red, was a full circle, its base just touching the tops of the distant trees. In less than five minutes it had sunk completely below the horizon.

It gave me an insight into why my ancestors, without such technological tools as clocks or calendars chose to mark the end of one day and the beginning of the next at sundown. If each day is an opportunity, then the setting of the sun - especially when seen so graphically - is a chance to reflect on what has been achieved in the time that's passed since the last sunset.

I was careful not to say 'the twenty-four hours that have passed' in that last sentence. Because the time between sunsets is never exactly twenty-four hours. The 'hour' is a human invention, as is the idea that one day ends and the next one begins at midnight. Measuring time is a peculiar business. So is our place in it, and our relationship with it.

The poet Philip James Bailey once wrote:

'We live in deeds, not years; in thoughts, not breaths;
In feelings, not in figures of a dial.
We should count time in heart-throbs. A person most lives
Who thinks most - feels the noblest - acts the best.'

It doesn't much matter whether we consider that each day ends and the new one begins at midnight, sunset, or whenever we wake up in the morning. The important thing is to use well the time we have been given.

In the eleventh century, a rabbi called Bachya ibn Pakuda, wrote: 'Days are like scrolls. Write on them what you want to be remembered'.

At some point every day - sunset, midnight or maybe at around 9.15 in the morning, perhaps everyone should stop and consider what might be remembered about that particular day. You might even call it a pause for thought...

350g Self raising flour
1 tablespoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
200g caster sugar
115g unsalted butter
85g golden syrup
... 1 medium egg, beaten
35g crystallised stem ginger (add more to taste - Tash used 5 pieces)
3 baking trays greased with butter

5.30 a.m. May 1st 2012.

Never before have I seen rain like I'm seeing now! It's not so much pouring down, it's more like giant waves are dropping out of the sky every few seconds. It's all rather dramatic. I haven't checked but if the tide's against us, I might be late for work. Still you get a better view with high water.
