The Olympics are amazing.

Chris Evans | 17:20 UK time, Monday, 6 August 2012

Truly amazing. A - bloomin- mazing. Are you getting my gist here ?

The weekend shows we have just done were a complete joy. Especially getting to chat to our marvellous athletes on a daily basis. I don't think I've ever seen such a daily tally of beaming smiles in my whole life.

Success equals relief it would seem, there for all to see. Relief and release, closure and the comprehension that perhaps, just perhaps - it was all worthwhile.

With only six days of competition left in what have been the most wonderful Games, I hope it never ends and I'll be mighty sad when it does.

But - enough of that now. We must enjoy what we have, whilst we have it and be jolly grateful in the process. Now, if you forgive me I'm straight back to the telly to watch the jump off in the show jumping.

Tally ho

Lots of love

Peace 'an all.

CE.

    Hi Chris and everybody

I couldn't agree more - I am glued to the TV whenever I can (I even told my hairdresser she was using up valuable Olympic watching time on Saturday - huge mistake, she then tried to hurry and pulled my hair quite sharply a couple of times - ouuuch...)

Your energy and enthusiasm are contagious, Chris. I think it's been said before, if it could be bottled, a fortune could be made....

Too many other things on previous blog to comment, except Chrissie it must have been awful finding your brother in law in such a state. Thank goodness he is on the mend.

Anyhoo - more limpix to watch.

    Evening each

Chris, switched the radio on on Saturday and heard your voice - was a bit confuddled, thought it was Friday!

Yes, lovely to see so many smiling young athletes, and you'll know by now that the show jumping team got gold.

Back now from our dummy run to find the car fest sight .

And what a trip it was ,I just couldn't believe it as we had no sooner left home and the heavens opened ,it thundered and it lightened and couldnt see were you were going half the time.

But we persisted on and found it ,and what a nice spot it is for a car fest ,nice open country with a gentle slope to one side of the farm and there are a few hills around so will be interesting to see the hill that the cars are going up.

And to top it all off when we arrived at the silk mill it was closed ,every where in that area is closed on a Monday ,the grandsons couldn't make it out that things close ,like the old days ...who remembers half day closing on a wednesday??

But then that only added to the quaintness of the places that we drove through .and I did tell them that it's such a different ball game living in a city and having everyting on your door step and at your finger tips.

Didn't even have a chance for a bite to eat ,but off out shortly.

Chris ,I know just what you mean about the games ,it's brought everyone together and people are so happy, just hoping the happiness continues ,it can be done ...

Debs, how strange was that ,looking forward to it dropping on my mat ;-))

Now lets have a look at what's on this evenings menu.

Almost forgot to say hello to mtd ,hi ..hope your'e doing OK.

PS and when we arrived back home it appears not to have had a spot of rain !!!!

Bids, we've got your thunder, lightning and rain!!

A nice touch that postboxes in Scotland are being painted gold in the towns where they've got a gold medalist.

    Back now,

Just popped over to Hayling Island as there is a nice pub which does nice grub.It does a different pie every day ,and today was steak and mushroom so that's what we had ,and it was a good choice. just have now opened a bottle of brandy that I'd bought last december ,wont say that ****word just yet ,so it should be just right for the drinking now dont you think.

Annie ,this weather is sure funny at the moment isn't it it's blck here now and quite humid but still not had any rain ,but I think there is time .

    Hello Richard ..

    Evening all

Ironing pile has been defeated..................for today!

We're off to the Lake district - well, the south of, staying at Grange-over-Sands, for a long weekend, leaving Thursday and back Tuesday.

It has been on and off showers this evening but it does seem to have got dark so early! Seems like we never had the long light nights of summer - Bah!!

Annie, they are painting the post-boxes across the whole of Great Britain in the town the Gold medal winner comes from! Along with producing stamps with each winner or winning team on!

I'm hoping they might do a set of all the stamps after the olympics finishes - I wouldn't mind getting that as a souvenier!

Richard, Claudia was talking about who should be sports personality this year - it's not going to be an easy choice!

  • Comment number 9.

Sezza, how nice is that - gold postboxes throughout Britain! I'm not sure how I feel about Ö÷²¥´óÐã Scotland claiming Scottish medals - it's surely about Team GB I think.

We've now had the whole month's rain in the last 2 days and I hope our Borders bloggers are ok - Jedburgh has been flooded.

but sadly there seems alot of simple easily influenced people in our society who read this rubbish and believe it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Many a time at work i've argued with collegues (who probably by the daily rags) (a don't as a don't wanter read the misery, gossip and filth!!!!) 'ow great our monachy is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Then came the Queen's Diamond Jubilee...... WHATTA WONDERFUL sight to see so many people waving union jacks.... All over the UK streets and towns I see while on my travels with photos of The queen and the union jack dorned across streets!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

At last some pride is coming back to Britain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Britain that 'ad lost it's 'great'!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

And now with The Olympics..... WOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It is just AMAZING what is 'appening..... The records being broken!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The stories of the first time in this we win 104 years we win a medal..... The first time in that for 52 years we win a medal..... The most successful they are in such and such!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's just amazing that the whole world is watching us..... Our relatively small island putting on a show for the world!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The opening ceremony was magical, funny, entertaining and spine tingling...... An amazing spectacle of what was and is great about GREAT BRITAIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Haven't had a chance to catch up as we were away to Lochgilphead in the caravan last week from Tuesday to Friday, did a bit of GeoCaching, thanks to D's nephew and a bit of canoeing, thanks to D's brother, overall it was a lovely break.

    Christoff Lambie Pie!

You and your Team deserve a great big shiney Gold Medal for your broadcasting from the Olympics

Listening to you each day, I feel like I have been there with you all

This morning, you and the awesome Beth Tweddle (and her parents of course) actually have me in tears!

Bingo, you are so right! The feeling that we can carry this pride in our country with pride makes my heart proud!

I often look at the papers on line and have noticed that before the Olympics started and when they had just begun and were really getting going, a certain rag had headlines of predicted doom and contempt

Now, the positivity is hidden and the obsession with "celebrity" rules again

We need to keep these athletes as the role models for our children - especially for the girls. If anyone wants to see the most beautiful women, look at our athletes - our rowers and tennis players and gymnasts and cyclists not these so called super models with their dubious lifestyles and emaciated looks!

    Morning All,

The Olympics are beyond amazing, I don't honestly think there are enough superlatives to describe them!

I am incredibly worried about next week when there isn't 24/7 sport to watch and how I am going to cope with going cold turkey!

Chris, you are doing a fantastic job in the mornings, I don't get to hear it all, but what I do hear I like.

Chrissie, That's terrible about your b-i-l, but I am really glad to hear he is going to be OK xx

Sezza, Have a lovely break xx And I totally agree about using athletes as role models, they don't look much when they are all hot and sweaty, but boy do they brush up well - absolutely gorgeous some of them.

Bingo, You make me chuckle :))

Hello to everyone else, hope you are all fine and dandy.

  • Comment number 20.

    Good morning!

Ooooh, Sezza and AliB: loving it!

Thanks to Bids, Debs, mtd and AliB for asking after my b-i-l. We saw him last night - he is most definitely on the mend, sitting straight up, and able to move about. What a real joy.

I called British Gas this morning - they are sending out an engineer this morning to check that the gas in the house has dispersed, so that my b-i-l can come home safely.

As you know, more than anything, I just want to spread the message of getting a monoxide alarm, if you have gas in the house. If this wasn't Olympic time, I would email Chris and ask him to announce this on his show, but it's just not for this week.

    Thanks, everyone. xx

Bids: isn't it just absolutely typical that you go away for the day, head off into the terrible weather, and then come home to discover that it has been a lovely day at home! Nice to be with your grandchildren though, and yes, a wee bit of a lesson that sometimes we can't get what we would like! I certainly do remember the early closing on a Wednesday - it would get to 4.15, my lovely Mum would remember we had no cold meat or cheese in the house ... and then realise the shops were all closed!

Bingo: yes, the mood in the country at the moment is wonderful - a great feeling of pride, and I hope it can continue.

Annie: I had no idea Ö÷²¥´óÐã Scotland are keeping a tally of "Scottish wins". This is purely my personal opinion - I think it's a very, very bad move. I am Scottish, yes, but I am British and support Team GB. Whoever came up with that idea at Ö÷²¥´óÐã Scotland is an idiot.

Malc: hi, welcome to the blog. You are so right - Chris is on a different level at the moment - just incredible.

Dozer: glad to hear you had a good break.

Sezza: your post #15 - so true.

Sorry this is a long one!

    Hello CE & Everyone.

You are so right Chris - the Olympics are truely amazing and it's just wonderful that Britain is now great again thanks to our great athletes. I feel proud to be British once again. It takes sport and music to create good things and the atmosphere in the country is high at the moment. And thank goodness for people like you Chris who show all the positivity and good in things.

The press have to show all the achievements and hasppy pictures but at the same time I notice they are always looking for any negative things amongst it all. They are today going on about the cost of the free drinks provided for the winners and showing pictures of them looking the worse for wear after partying. FOR GOODNESS SAKE LET THEM CELEBRATE THEIR WONDERFUL ACHIEVEMENTS GUTTER PRESS!

How I hate the press, why do they try so hard to bring down our country and all the good things we have.

Thank you so much Chris et al for offsetting this!

    Afternoon everyone,

Well, I am just super hooked on the Olympic Games. I have had such a great time so far , and that is just from my sofa. I will be lost next week, I may have to get my bike out, or my rowing machine :-)

Sezza, well said in #15 , these athletes are gorgeous . They have held their heads high in glory and defeat, with no whinging and swiping , and have been a joy to watch, and a credit to our nation.

Maddy, I was tired of the negativity before the games started, and I am so thrilled at the way everyone is embracing it and enjoying it. I wish the press could just be happy for once and talk the UK up . I think that part of our "can't do" mentality stems from the press putting a negative bias to the good in life.

I must make sure I have plenty of tissues in for the closing ceremony, I will be broken hearted when that flame goes out.

Chrissie - glad your BIL is well, what a dreadful fright for the family. xxx

Right, am going back on my perch,

Loved the cycling yesterday - had recoreded it to watch when i got in from work - but is it just me or should the Aussie have been disqualified for elbowing Vic P rather than the other way around???? RANT over.

Sezza, i too am hoping they produce a full set of lympic stamps - what a brilliant idea hey. Still gutted I cant get tickets - tried for paralympics too and all sold out booooooooo

All, wonderful show. How great has this and last week been. Check these guys out! Think they were from the previous London Olympics.....

  • Comment number 33.

    Mornin' all

I've not been around for simply ages, but I have been lurking and loving the Olympics posts going on.

Christoph - oh my goodness. There should be a medal for you and the team for putting on consistently fantastic shows. Your enthusiasm and pride just beams through airwaves and as MTD said, if only we could bottle it ! Well done to you all for the brilliant shows, although when I heard you on Saturday morning I had to do a double-take and check the calendar!!!!!

Chrissie - I was appalled at what happened to your brother-in-law and I'm so glad that he's on the mend. The 'if only's' don't bear thinking about, and as a result I've been telling everyone I know about him to highlight what can go wrong.

'Im indoors is doing fine in his new job ... it was lovely seeing him off wearing his suit and tie (not just that, obviously!) with a clean hankie - I'm very proud of him.

Mum's settled into the nursing home but she's suffered another mini-stroke over the last two weeks so she's very sleepy and not as mobile or able to communicate as she was. But, we've been here before so fingers crossed she can pull herself out of the mental fog that she's in. My brother is coming over from New Zealand for a couple of weeks next week, which will be a real tonic for us all, not least my lovely dad who is struggling to deal with it all. He misses mum so much - they've been together for almost 60 years - but he's starting to get into a routine now.

I'm thinking I won't be able to watch many more Team GB medal ceremonies as I seem to be blubbing like a baby every time ..... I feel so proud of everyone who's taken part, whether they've won a medal or not, and the team spirit is inspirational.

Shame on the person or persons who have daubed the gold-painted post box in honour of Jessica Ennis with graffitti - I pity them as they obviously have no pride in anything.

Right - off to lunch then I must try to stop peeking at Ö÷²¥´óÐã Live or I'll never finish what I've started!

A hug and hello to everyone and take care.

Jilly, nice to see you, I did'nt know about that graffiti incident, that is truly disgusting.

Hope everyone is fiting fit , (or in my case fighting the fat ). All this sitting on the sofa every night is not doing me any good :-) but I am totally hooked .

    Love to all

    MC - thank you x

As for sitting on the sofa watching the Olympics ... I'm starting to look like an overstuffed armchair! Still, I've always said I was built for comfort, not speed!!

It seems the post box was vandalised within 24 hours of being painted .... isn't that dreadful? Unlike Jessica Ennis, the mindless idiot or idiots who did this will never ever be winners.
