The baton goes to...

Post categories:

Rachel | 11:37 UK time, Thursday, 17 August 2006

Hello to you, it’s the show producer Rachel here. After much debate on air about who should do the blog, the baton has been handed to me. Firstly, I'll apologise as I have a feeling this may be pretty dull.

So what to write about? Well I've just come up from the studio after a very entertaining interview and now sitting in an office with a very loud sound of drilling outside. If you heard the show this morning, you'll have heard that there are roadworks outside Radio 1 towers. The studios are in the basement, so every time we put the microphones on you could hear a slight rumble. Well, that rumble is now 10 times louder and it feels like someone is about to break through the wall. Oh well at least it's an excuse not to sit at my desk much this morning.

We've just recorded the links for the new podcast, It all went a bit off piste, you'll know what I mean when you have a listen. Here comes the corporate bit….it will be available to download tomorrow (that's Friday) from about 8:30am.

I really never know what to write in these things so I shall tell you what I have coming up in my day. In 7 minutes I will be going to a 'waterhole'. No it's not an excuse for me to go for a drink, it's a meeting at Radio 1 where we work on creating ideas. The ideas come into fruition on the station later in the year. Very exciting... I hope you're still with me. That'll take me up to midday when I'll do some setting up and forward planning for the show.

Oh tomorrow we have a very exciting event…it's the big office 'deep clean'. It's chance to chuck out or chintz and make the place look nice. Or in other words create space to then refill the gaps with other rubbish. So I may even tidy my desk later. As I write this Chris is clearing his desk. Rock and indeed roll.

I usually finish at 1pm, that's when I go home. Oh more exciting news and this is a blog exclusive... for serious fans of the show (or geeks) you may remember last year I tried my hand at growing my own vegetables. Well you'll be pleased to know I have a new crop of rocket and lettuce growing nicely. Should be ready in a few weeks.

So after tending to my lettuce I shall then be heading 'up west'. I'm going to a swanky theatre in London town to see the Reduced Shakespeare Company. They're 3 men who were made famous for condensing the entire works of Shakespeare into about 40 minutes. Well tonight I'm going to see them do the entire series of Star Wars in 20 mins. Sounds bizarre, but they are very funny.

Right must dash, I have a waterhole to attend to.

Love
Rachel x

You should do something creative with it like make a goats cheese souffle with red onion marmalade and a rocket salad.

I expected him to look so much more camp for the voice has! The rest are pretty much what I expected. Keep up the good work guys.

Growing your own vegetables is to be heartily commended - but you must always be aware of garden pests. I tried it once and found that every single cabbage was munched by a rare type of slug that had apparently fallen off the wheels of a 747 en route to the UK from Brazil. Imagine it, just one slug laying waste to a half acre of vegetable patch! The culprit was easy to identify and catch. All I had to do was lay a trail of lettuce leaves to a trap underneath my laboratory. When the slug arrived at the trap I speared it, hauled it up, and immediately began my dissection. The thing had feasted well - not only did it's stomach contain my entire crop of red-onions, but also a young man whom I'd previously caught stealing lettuces. The lad was miraculously still alive, having been ingested just a few minutes previously. This particular pest was duly hosed down and reported to the authorities. I believe he now sells slug-pellets for a living. The slug was stuffed and is now on display at a local museum.

I really like enjoying to you on the show, as you keep Chris and Dave in order!

It is is great you support your local side Kidderminster, who play in the same league as my local side Stevenage. Will you be visiting Stevenage this season.

If you have any spare time, have a look at the nationwide conference internet forum.

Hi,

I heard that Chris was thinking of getting a new computer. I am a web designer and would highly recommend getting a Mac. If you are thinking of doing media based work (music, videos)then a Mac is the way to go.

I work on both Mac and PC and find in general that a Mac is more user friendly, especially if or when something goes wrong or if you need to reformat or install software.

Go Mac!

Thanks,

Love your show, very funny.
Better music than here.

You're going to see the Reduced Shakespeare Company?!! Wow! I'm very jealous, well actually my jelousy is slight reduced by the fact that I don't like Star Wars but those guys are indeed amazing [not least because I love that they wear converses]. Their production where they do their reduced versions of Shakespeare's plays is hilarious. I learned that Shakespeare's heroines do not vomit before they die. And Troilus and Cresida is not about a dinosaur. Infotainment indeed.
