Blog from Dave

Dear All,

It’s my turn to do the blog thing today, and since I last did one it seems that technology has moved on enormously. It’s all audio blogs this and video blogs that, and I’m not entirely sure how to do all of that modern stuff, so I thought I’d just write you an old fashioned one instead.

Aled did offer to film me with the video bit on his phone, but I politely declined his kind offer.

It’s all out in the open now about my impending fatherhood, which you’ve probably heard about. Jayne is nearly seven months pregnant, and the bump is growing steadily by the day, so it’s all very exciting and great, although the scheduling of the ante natal clash to coincide with the Champions League final is ridiculous. How stupid to have a class starting at 7.30pm when the game kicks off at 7.45pm. In these days of sexual equality and stuff with men being expected to take more of an active role in pregnancy and childbirth, you would think that they would arrange them with men in mind, rather than putting them at stupid times that are difficult to attend. It’s as if women are trying to keep the men out of the equation, and surely this is sexist and wrong.

We went to see Prince the other night which was weird. He didn’t come on till midnight which is way past our bedtime, especially on a school night, but we wanted to see what should have been an amazing gig. Don’t get me wrong, his band were superb and as a performer he was faultless, and to see somebody of his stature in such a small venue was a real privilege, it’s just a shame that his set was pish. There was no Little Red Corvette, 1999 or Raspberry Beret, let alone Purple Rain, which seemed odd at a gig which was intended to give a taster of his forthcoming greatest hits gigs scheduled across the UK this summer. We had a laugh though, and saw top names such as David Furnish, Abi Titmuss and Pete Burns which was quite funny.

I bought a cordless strimmer the other day which is mega, although it’s been too wet for me to use it yet. I’ve taken a photo of it for you to have a look at though, and for those of you wondering what my strimmer and the Championship have in common? That’s right…… No Leeds

Here's a photo of my strimmer

Today I ran into Shane Ritchie while I was in the café ordering my lunch. These sort of showbusiness encounters rarely happen to me, which is why I don’t think it really counts as name dropping. Turns out that he lives just down the road from me in Countryshire, and has told me to give him a call if I need a plumber or an electrician that I can trust. I thought this was very neighbourly of him, in a fortuitous encounter that I hadn’t expected when I popped out for a medium sized salad bowl and a ribena. I think I’m going to use this as a guess who for tomorrow, so if you’re reading this before I’ve done it, please don’t tell anybody that I saw Shane Ritchie.

Anyway, enough from the high octane world of showbusiness. I’ve got to go now, as Jayne’s brother is down staying with us tonight and I need to go and make up the bed in the spare room.

Bye Bye

Dave

Ps I’m also looking forward to Radio One’s Big Weekend in Preston.

Dave, yor strimmer looks like a good one. You must tell us when you eventually get around to using it. I cant afford a cordless one though, and have to make do with a long orange cord between me and the house and the usual near misses with regards to self-electrocution.

Sky+ the football, and watch the whole match later.

That's what I'd do.

Plus, it'll be a challenge to get home without finding out the result.
