That trailer does not make me want to watch the show. Far too bleak and not a hint of comedy - I would've thought it was important to include some funny scenes in a trailer for a comedy show.

I think it’s beautiful and brilliant and I’m sure if given a longer run, some of the more simplistic brutality, and characters, could be developed with a more viscous subtly.

Just watched the pilot episode very impressed, bbc need to run with this forward thinking comedy, and if you want ratings that time slot will never do!

Just watched Lizzie and Sarah. It was brilliantly funny. Amazing cast, brilliantly acted. Superior comedy. Ö÷²¥´óÐã - please commission this immediately.

Genius. I love Julia Davis and this should have been given an earlier slot. PLEASE can we have more! This is what is brilliant about television in the UK.

I feel lucky to have stumbled on this programme by accident. I love both these two actors and am a great fan of both their work - shades of Nighty night tonight I thought So have they previous 5 episodes been written? If so I'd like to see them soon!

This was quite good, and if allowed to develop could become seriously funny. Much better than most of what the bbc offers as comedy.

I stumbled across this completely by accident as I couldn't sleep last night. I really enjoyed it and there were some real laugh out loud moments. Was hoping it was a series, just found out it's a pilot so I'm hoping that it does get commissioned, how likely that is when the pilot is shown at 11.45pm on a Saturday I don't know! I'd watch it again.

This is groundbreaking stuff - incredibly funny (I was laughing tears), and so truthful it is really moving as well. It breaks a lot of taboos about women, with an honesty which makes it riveting viewing. It's so well acted there are moments when you forget this is comedy, followed by something side-splitting. Brave and wonderful stuff. Waiting with baited breath for the next episode. Bring it on.

Julia davis totally rocks along with the very talented Jessica hynes I am a massive spaced and nighty night fan so was very happy to see these two comedy genius's team up!! Loads of the cast from previous shows spotted too thought it was excellent Ö÷²¥´óÐã you need to make this a series stop farting around with pilots u know these two are bare funny!!!!!

I just watched this and thought it was superb. Intelligent, funny, brilliantly written and acted. Please Ö÷²¥´óÐã commission a full series. This show deserves to reach a bigger audience and is just the sort of challenging comedy the Ö÷²¥´óÐã SHOULD be making.

I knew absolutely nothing about this so am gutted to have missed it!

The comedy blog tweet asked if it was "too bleak or pure genius" - why can't it be both? Both Davis and Hynes have a history of creating challenging and timeless comedy (evidenced by, in Jessica's case, a flasmob silent Spaced shoot-out in Trafalgar Square on the day of broadcast!). Anyone who didn't expect "Lizzie & Sarah" would be so near the bone can't have very good comedy chops! It's was a stunning piece of television, at turns both very moving and laugh-out-loud funny. I can understand a late slot, given the content, but 11:45pm was a bit extreme. 10:00pm would surely have been acceptable. But, once again, comedy is treated like the poor relation. The Ö÷²¥´óÐã have broadcast dramas with far more distressing content in earlier slots, yet any comedy that attempts to tackle taboo subjects is always buried with little or no promotion. Like "Stewart Lee's Conedy Vehicle", this was always only ever going to cater to a niche crowd - and look at the furore that occured when the Ö÷²¥´óÐã considered cancelling that. Please don't make the same mistake with "Lizzie and Sarah". The critics have already slavered over it. Commissioned and be damned, I say. And then watch the plaudits roll in!

Come on Ö÷²¥´óÐã give us a longer run. You want quality not quantity, well this is quality!

This was absolutely fantastic. Dark, incisive, immaculately observed comedy. This MUST be made into a series, I absolutely LOVED it.

As I expected it was a very funny pilot, with a nice sense of tension and some pitch perfect performances. I'm looking forward to seeing how a whole series works out, when the Ö÷²¥´óÐã commissions it (they'd better!)

The first half was almost unbearably uncomfortable to watch, but I began laughing as soon as the first bullet was fired, which says something about how dark this is. It demonstrates that comedy and tragedy are two sides of one whole; likewise absurdity and profundity - thanks to the acting and writing. I hope this is given a chance, it deserves it.

Fantastic Pilot episode that must be made into a series! Slightly angered by the fact that the Ö÷²¥´óÐã decided to put it on at such an unusual timeslot with little to no promotion. It is a series like this that should be made more aware to a more mainstream audience, despite the controversial content included in the programme. If the style of comedy is not to the tastes of people of a sensitive disposition, then all they have to do is turn off and let others who enjoy this style of comedy appreciate its creative genius. If it does be made into a series which I highly doubt, then I believe it could possibly go down with those underrated bbc comedy classics such as Nighty Night and Human Remains

This the worst "comedy" I have seen since Chalk (a dreadful fawlty towers imitation about a chatic school).

The show consists of solely of cardboard characters playing out entirely predictable storylines.

It's one-dimensional, stereotypical, cliche-ridden, and humourless.

Who decides to pay these people to produce this rubbish?

Quality Comedy, very dark and very funny. No need to have this on so late. Julia Davis and Jessica Hynes are two of our brightest comedy writers. The Ö÷²¥´óÐã should remember that Julia Davis introduced many people to the hapless character (Linda) that Ruth Jones played in Nighty Night which for me was the foundation for her brilliance as Nessa with Gavin and Stacey.

I would urge the Ö÷²¥´óÐã to invest in this series, it will undoubtedly be a huge success.

I really liked this. I've loved other stuff that they've done, Spaced is one of my all time favourite shows so I knew it would be good. Also really moving in parts, top performances from them both.
I think it's pretty poor on the Ö÷²¥´óÐã's half that I only heard about this through Simon Pegg's twitter. And like you've all said, what was with the air time? They're just looking for excuses not to commission new shows, which is a shame when you've good really good ones like this that I'm sure could be a hit given the chance.

Julia Davis is genius...my entire family LOVED the pilot...PLEASE GIVE US MORE - BRILLIANT !

Why are they fat with thin young faces? Why are they wearing polyester and beige? Why is their hair so awful? Being 58 myself it is great to have a series where this "invisible age" is portrayed but why not use real 56 year olds?

If I hadn't have heard about this from someone by chance I would have missed it - can't believe there isn't any more - I WANT MORE!!!

Lizzie and Sarah is the next intrepid step in comedy that I can not wait to be fully uncovered. It was excruciating and challenging to watch at the start, but by the end it had me sat in the back of Lizzie 4x4 chasing Rick though the forest with as much glee as the murderous hags themselves. Loved it and can't wait for a full series.

I felt that for example Murderville by the league of gentlemen didn't evolve the wonderful macabre that the 3rd series achieved. Instead fell back on the first series dark panto. Whereas L&S takes Nighty Night and blows it out the water.

just watched this, LOVED IT. These are two of my favourite actresses for absolutely nailing the brutality of everyday lives and relationships. Lizzie & Sarah is no exception, although I have to say I enjoyed the first half (don't want to give away spoilers) more than the second half, which is more empowering but less realistic, if that is the right word. It made me laugh and cry which is the perfect combo! PS anyone who hasn't watched Human Remains and has enjoyed Lizzie & Sarah drop everything and watch immediately - you will love it.

I stumbled across the show after coming back home on Saturday night, and loved it.

Contrary to those complaining about the slot, I think this was a wonderful time to discover it, and those who want to watch at another time, well I am sure it will be repeated a few times to get more exposure, and there is also iplayer.

(Even?) as a man, I found it brilliant, touching, apt, and compelling. I found the Bonita character somewhat gross, which I imagine was the intention, but the rest was well observed and definitely funny. I am imagine many women will find it hilarious and sadly all too true.

I do wonder whether for some people, maybe quite a few, it will be too close to the truth and therefore gutwrenching to watch, but I imagine that segment of the audience will revel in the revenge wreaked by the two title characters, and enjoy it just as much. I can imagine this being required cult viewing at divorce parties!

I think this show has come at the right time, and will attract an audience. I think this should get plenty of views on iplayer, and needs a few repeats to pick up a head of steam.

Its obviously something that should not go on Ö÷²¥´óÐã3, as the comedy on Ö÷²¥´óÐã3 at that time of night is typically puerile rubbish aimed at teenagers, such as the abysmal Coming of Age, which if anything should be booted from the airwaves in cutbacks, is a strong candidate. Ö÷²¥´óÐã 3 is a pretty good channel apart from the childishly grotesque comedy, but it would not be the place for Lizzie and Sarah. I would say its key audience are the middle aged women who have suffered some of the knocks that Lizzie and Sarah have, and who are knocking back the fourth glass of wine whilst waiting for their bloke to get back from "working late at the office" or the "lads night out". Thus late night Ö÷²¥´óÐã2 was the probably the best place for its first airing.

But I think this will get a bigger audience and a broader audience with time. It reminds me of a twisted mix of Calendar Girls and Acorn Antiques - delicious!

I have bothered to comment, as the brilliant Being Human was turned into a series after public support, and I hope this receives the same benefit.

Wow. That was stunning. Jessica Hynes, what an actress. The funniest thing I've seen in a very very very long time. Julia Davis IS comedy. This has the makings of a true classic. So deliciously dark. I just want more. now.

i think you have wronged a lot of people by not telling them this is on - two icons in comedy writing and acting pushed to a pilot at 11.45 is pretty insane. if they'd have had a slot on FNWJR or something it would be top of the iplayer list and you'd be getting a ton more comments. loved it, and fingers crossed for a series!

Just managed to catch this on i-Player. Sneaked it out at the dead of night so as not to offend the neighbours eh? Who lost their nerve then? Get a grip and commission the series, and repeat this pilot for all the others who will maybe be out of time in seeing this on-line.

Julia Davis is a comedy inspiration, I would be horrified and saddened by the Ö÷²¥´óÐã if this fantastic new show was not commissioned.

Ö÷²¥´óÐã, the time slot for this episode is not fair to the quality of the programme. This series was from the makers of two award winning shows, surely you should have given it a better time for people to really engage with it. I stumbled across this and glad I did, seriously funny. I hope it becomes a series. I think you should re-air this programme, with better advertising than you gave, unfair to the programme. This HAS to become a series... It will do EXTREMELY well, and the Ö÷²¥´óÐã will generate MANY viewings from it.

Loved the pilot. Gloriously dark, very well written, excellent cast. I've enjoyed previous outings from Jessica Hynes & Julia Davis before, but this surpassed my expectations :) However, like a lot of people here I wish it had been given more fanfare, and an earlier timeslot. Please, Ö÷²¥´óÐã, take heed of all this feedback, commission the series & make sure more people get to hear about it next time! I have to know what happens next!!

I saw a 3D advertisement for the upcoming series of Doctor Who at the cinema last night. I don't know how the Ö÷²¥´óÐã could justify spending licence payers money on that but not on Lizzie and Sarah... get with it Beeb!

I really think it would be a shame if this doesn't get commissioned. It is one of those series where you know it would just get better and better as well- look at the first episode of the first series of Nighty Night...still amazing, but the following episodes just blew it out of the water. Please Ö÷²¥´óÐã, it's all well and good that your comedy content is quite light at the moment, but there is space for ONE dark comedy made by two of the funniest women in britain, surely???

Loved the pilot, loved Nighty Night too. Julia Davis deserves far more praise than she gets - one of the country's best comedy writers. I see some people think it's too dark, but I hope they can realise that it's not too dark by accident and it would not be improved by being lighter; that's what I and others enjoy about her work.

It's a real shame that Ö÷²¥´óÐã didn't have the guts to promote this properly and put it on earlier in the night. I almost missed this. I hope the Ö÷²¥´óÐã will show a bit more bravery and support the show with a full series and proper promotion.

I just watched this and thought it was amazing! I loved it. Nighty Night is my favourite comedy show ever, Being Human I also love. This is so up there! I really wish the Ö÷²¥´óÐã will pick this up. I've told all my friends to watch it, we're all big fans of Julia Davis. What I really loved though was Jessica Hynes! What a revelation. I've always liked her but I thought she was brilliant in this! Dare I say it, also stealing some scenes from Julia.

I don't know whether the Ö÷²¥´óÐã count up how many hits a programme on iplayer is receiving but I really hope they do...email the iplayer link to as many of your friends as possible and just maybe the Beeb will realise how much people like this and commission the whole series. I watched it not realising it was a one-off, and by the end was gagging for more...

Thank God for i player otherwise I would've missed it! YOU WOULD BE MAD NOT TO MAKE THIS INTO A SERIES! Like all the other work I have seen from these comediennes it was, in my opinion, deeply refreshing and absolutely hilarious. MAKE MORE!

A superb pilot. My girlfriend stumbled across this show last weekend and thoroughly enjoyed it. I have since watched the show on iPlayer and I totally agree that the show should be commissioned immmediately.

I realise that the subject matter is quite strong and indeed the timeslot may even be the right one. However, there was no excuse for the lack of promotion and seemingly disinterest in this program by the Ö÷²¥´óÐã.

Please show this pilot again at an earlier time and promote the program in a way it deserves. At least it would allow feedback from a wider audience therefore providing a more accurate gauge as to whether this program should be commissioned.

This made me laugh more than any other pilot or first episode that I have ever seen. Surely this is what Ö÷²¥´óÐã comedy is all about, something original and edgy.

You have to commission this if only to make up for Danny Dyer "I believe in Aliens". But seriously, what are you scared of? 38 Mary Whitehouse wannabees writing a letter about "They we actually fornicating in full view at one point"?

I registered just so I could tell you how amazing I thought this pilot was, and that the Ö÷²¥´óÐã would be CRAZY not to commission it. It's one of the funniest things the Ö÷²¥´óÐã has ever produced. The writing was funny, the acting was great and my friends and I have all watched it several times over.

The most annoying thing about this was that I absolutely loved it but had to learn about it through facebook and caught it on iPlayer with just 12 hours left before it expired. I saw no advertising for this and it was on at a silly time. I really hope there's more of this to come because it's an area of comedy that the Ö÷²¥´óÐã rarely cater for while spending funding on a plethora of celebrity reality dancing shows.

Absolutely top drawer stuff. Let's see more, Ö÷²¥´óÐã!

By coincidence I was just about to finish watching my Spaced series 1 and 2 DVDs for about the 6th time (my favourite comedy series of all time).
I've watched a massive amount of comedy series/films over the past few years, in my own experienced opinion this has to be made into a series.
I knew this was going to be good having two of my favourite actresses playing lead parts and writing.
The part where Jessica says "I hate you! I hate you!" gets an oscar from me. That took me by surprise as I was expecting something funny at that moment.
Very very powerful acting.
I was pleased to see David Caan in a similar role to his crazy parts in Brass eye and Jam.
Also Lily Ainsworth one of my favourites from School of comedy.
Two more favourites of mine Kevin Eldon and Mark Heap.

Another who just signed up to comment. I concur with lots of the previous statements. Maybe the Ö÷²¥´óÐã are not aware that Julia Davis and Jessica Hynes are both AWARD WINNING writers. Both from sucessful shows. How come there is no commissioning of this show yet Russel Howard gets his own. Im sick of seeing men of lesser wit and humour be continually put ahead of talented and rare women. Ö÷²¥´óÐã comedy does not reflect equality. Im sure you should have a quota for male /female ratio shows. Or does the the Ö÷²¥´óÐã really stand for Big Boys Club.(angry feminist facet aside)

Dark dark comedy from Julie Davies - love it - please can we have the series ...like now

I was lucky enough to stumble across this pilot when it was aired and I thought it was hilarious. I absolutely loved it. But had I not stumbled across accidentally I would have missed this great show, something that - had I known was going to be on - would have eagerly awaited and made an effort to watch. I don't think the Ö÷²¥´óÐã did themselves any favours in not promoting Lizzie and Sarah, and though I didn't mind the broadcast time, I don't feel it was necessary and the Ö÷²¥´óÐã probably lost out on a lot of viewers for these reasons. I'm just leaving this comment in the hope that the Ö÷²¥´óÐã will make more of this awesome show.

I read the Julia Davis interview in The Observer today. It was the first time I realised the Ö÷²¥´óÐã might not turn this into a series (I had assumed it was already a series). Now I wish I hadn't wasted time looking again and again for episode 2 on iPlayer... but please Ö÷²¥´óÐã, you need to make this show. We're tired of formulaic gameshows involving dancing, ice-skating and singing.

As much as I defend the Ö÷²¥´óÐã and the licence fee to people who watch Sky, I too am getting a little sick at the formulaic output. I wish the Ö÷²¥´óÐã would grow some and start doing more adult orientated comedy and less of the ratings grabbing bile that is 'Saturday Night' or early evening blob-fodder

That there is any question raised about the possibility of this series not being commissioned shows the fundamental deficiencies at the heart of the commissioning process of the Ö÷²¥´óÐã.

The desire to pander to the dumbed down masses with some of the drivel that is put out by our national broadcaster is a total mistake and a stain on our culture. The Ö÷²¥´óÐã is a national treasure, to be clear, but in seeking to produce content that is bland and non-descript, in order to please or not offend those in the right wing press they betray those that truly matter, the audience.

An opportunity to derive comedy from two incredibly talented individuals and thus elevate the quality and appeal of the broadcasting schedule is being presented. Please do not pass this up.

just had to watch this on youtube as completely missed it when it was on (shame on you!). glorious. it's really what bbc4 is there for. 2 comedy queens realy operating at the top of their game. i really hope the scheduling doesn't reflect the outcome for this show - it would be a credit to the Ö÷²¥´óÐã.

This must be commissioned - it was really, really funny! Excellent writing. Julia Davis and Jessica Hynes are two of the most talented comedy actresses around. I wish I had a teenth of their brilliance.

I trust that our public service broadcaster will continue to invest in the writers, actors and contributors of this comedy - the pilot was genius.

very poor treatment of our finest comic talent once again by the bbc. why on earth was it shown so late? did you want it to fail? even if few people see this on tv it will spread by wwrd of mouth and become a cult favourite because *gasp* many people out there have good taste in great dark british comedy. is this such a revelation?
julia davis is the funniest comedian in the world and should have money thrown at her to make all the dark and daring comedy that she wishes. truly can't get enough of her, human remains and nighty night are utter masterpieces and she needs to make more. do it bbc.

After seeing Nighty Night I thought I wouldn't see another comedy that pushed so many hilarious yet dark and seedy boundaries. Lizzie and Sarah is the comedy I've been wanting to release for a long time. Its oddly enough so honest yet so bizarre, especially as that is the first episode I'm already begging for me. Julia Davis is somewhat a genius.
I really do hope there is more because I just want more.

Why won't the Ö÷²¥´óÐã let this through? Why are we always stuck with the same old shouty lad crap, bland bloke panels or tried and tested situation stuff (mostly headed by men). When are you going to let something fresh and new through?? No wonder men always vote male writers as being the 'best' comedians in British history when so few talented female comedians are 'allowed' through. For God's sake these two writers are extremely successful and much loved, why are they not given the same support as some male new comers who often quickly receive their own show! So many male hosted panel shows are filled with token 'silly fillies' only there to act as foils to 'light hearted' sexist humour. Most women over 25 simply look else where for their entertainment. Women pay for TV licences as well you know!

I only recently found out about this and would love to watch it. How can I? Not on I-player now I guess. On DVD. Please, it looks wonderful. Agree with Merryn (post 95) too. More!
