The Queen Vic fire as it happens!

Lou | 19:30 UK time, Thursday, 9 September 2010

Did you miss the Vic fire? Or do you just want to watch the full episode again? I don't blame you. You can also watch catch-up clips... hooooooray!

shazza21 via the blog: 'Absolutely amazing episode. I was on the edge of my seat throughout, can't wait till tomorrow's episode!! Amazing acting from all cast!! Felt as if I was really there!!'

20:15: How were the historic fire scenes filmed? Want to know how Nina Wadia (Zainab) injured herself in the explosion?

Watch the Ö÷²¥´óÐã THREE fire behind-the-scenes video

You can see more footage from the destruction of the Queen Vic in the Ö÷²¥´óÐã Three programme EastEnders: Kat and Alfie's Return (yep. they're coming back!), due to air on Friday, 24 September at 8.30pm:

Val R via : 'Tonight's episode was probably the best one I've ever seen. So emotional! I'm still filling up ... Well done to the writers!'

20.05: So.... yet more juicy revelations were exposed tonight... did you see the fifth one coming? 3, 2 and 1 will be revealed tomorrow... what will they be? Ooooooh the suspense is a killer...

Revelation 5: She's Your Daughter

Stacey finally did it. Ryan was told that he's Lily's father, and on his wedding day no less. That throws a bit of a spanner in the works for the newly weds. Has the honeymoon ended for Ryan and Janine, before it's even begun?

Revelation 4: Burn Vic Burn

OMG. Tonight the Queen Vic burnt to smithereens, and Phil was to blame. Anyone else notice his resemblance to Jack Nicholson in The Shining? Move over Jack, "Heeere's Phil"! Peggy looked destroyed as she shouted, "Let it burn". What will the Queen of the Vic do now that there's only burnt rubble for a throne?

See past revelations that were exposed earlier this week:

Countdown of revelations 7... 6...

Countdown of revelations 10... 9... 8...

emmajadex via Twitter: ' that was amazin!! I'm speechless.'

20:00: "Let it burn, let it burn..." must be the most gut-wrenching words that have uttered from the Walford icon - the Queen Vic's landlady is a legend. Heart Peggy and she may feel a little better!

19:57: Stacey finally tells Ryan he's Lily's father! "She's yours. She's your daughter." Will the hero of the day make a good dad? Will he tell Janine?

19:56: Another explosion! This one's loud enough to grab Grant's attention from Spain.
Ryan falls from the ladder holding Stace...

19:51: Poor Pegs. Roxy may as well have smacked Peggy around the chops: "It's too late!"

19:46: OMG. An almighty explosion blows the heebeegeebees out of everyone.

The Vic batters out the flames which puts an abrupt stop to Janine and Ryan's wedding
reception... screams, smashed bottles, and lots of heat... you'd expect nothing less on one of Janine's wedding days!

19.45: Sick Phil "I just want a little taster" Mitchell doesn't look so hard now does he?

His emotional showdown with his "muvva" proves to be fatal for the Walford legend, as the Queen Vic goes up in flames... NOOOOOOO!!

Phil: "My parting gift, mum." Did anyone ever tell Phil that it's dangerous to play with matches?!

19:34: "Get outta ma pub" is shrieked at quivering Stacey, after revealing to Peggy that evil Archie raped her... AND SHE KILLED THE BLIGHTER. It's not gone down well with the iron lady. GULP. Has Peggy said her infamous line for the last time? Will the legendary matriarch call the copshop on Stace?

19:30: The opening credits are rolling and the intensity is building, as we begin to watch a whopper of an episode. After 25 years of fun, fisticuffs and family dramas... the Queen Vic won't go down without a fight! Are you sitting comfortably?

  • Comment number 25.

I was on the edge of my seat for the whole episode! Liked the way it showed the reaction of all of the cast members as they tried to account for everyone. (V realistic that Bianca had gone home) Also loved that Zainab recued Syed. Also loving the new can of worms opened up between Ryan Stacey and Janine. Not sure how dramatic Peggy's exit will be now but I was quite relieved to see her safe and sound. Not a tear jerker like the live episode but definitely one to remember!

  • Comment number 26.

  • Comment number 31.

Oh my goodness, how dramatic. At one point I could hardly take it and thought it may all be a bit over the top, Yet I couldn't stop myself from welling up...palpatations and all. Can't wait for friday evening.

  • Comment number 32.

What an episode, best episode of the year and im sooo glad Peggy didn't die.
The whole time i was shouting at the T.V 'Peggy get outta your pub' LMAO!
And as for the Ryan/Lily revelation i didn't see that one coming.
Well done to the cast and crew, Epic episode. :D

  • Comment number 33.

oh my god so cant wait for tomorrow nights show now tonight was great. i was sat on the edge of my seat throughout. Did wonder why Dot was dancing round the pub with a fag in her hand though as didnt think that was allowed anymore ????? and it happened more than once. Can see some great story lines coming one i would like to see is stacey and ryan getting together now that he knows hes Lily's dad :-) Also really glad no one died

  • Comment number 34.

Why was Dot smoking inside the pub??

  • Comment number 35.

Oh dear.... so many ridiculous things happened in this episode:

Firstly; why didnt Peggy just blow the match out??? One puff would save the Ö÷²¥´óÐã from having to build a new set.

Secondly; How come it takes a small group of people so long to leave a burning pub... looks like they were all standing around wait for a script prompt.

Very disappointed especially with all the hype :)

  • Comment number 36.

What can i say? apart from.......Simply the BEST EVER episode of Eastenders!!!!! a massive well done to everyone involved!!! this is why Eastenders is the always the BEST BRITISH SOAP!!

  • Comment number 37.

    Sam - your babys dead!!
Sorry but that ruined it for me, at every turn I thought surely the next sream will be 'where's the baby?!', but not even the mother of the ~3 day old baby spared a thought for where he was. Although she did at one point earlier in the evening say she was going to get him, but never did.

  • Comment number 38.

This episode was great. I really thought Peggy was going to run back into the burning Vic and that would be how she left. The thing that amazed me where the scenes that showed Dot smoking in the pub!!!

  • Comment number 39.

andy grow up if she had blew the match out it would of been over thers not point watching it it would of been boring

  • Comment number 40.

the 5 reverlation is someones pregnant or are they! find out tomow

  • Comment number 41.

It Was AMAZING!! What a storyline for Barbara Windor to leave the show on! Everyone fabulous!! Loved It! xxxx

  • Comment number 42.

did anyone else notice that dot was actually smoking in the pub when billy asked her where roxy was....i thought smoking in pubs was banned lol....so now not only does peggy have a burnt down pub to worry about but she also could be getting a 5000 fine for someone smoking in her pub lmao.......

  • Comment number 43.

    Hey AndYP85 and everyone,

Good point about blowing the match out... although I'm not sure that Peggy believed that her son would drop the match, or that it would cause so much harm! Poor Pegs...

  • Comment number 44.

Where is Sam's baby? And Amy?? And where was Kamil, for that matter? EE always forgets about the babies! But I just watched it again... I'm shaking again! An utterly gripping episode!

Thank you Richard Burnham.... so one can't have submit a comment without a derogatory remark?

The point I was making is that the way it was done allowed for Peggy to quickly blow the match out... with Phil being so close.. so I regard this as being very poor in the set-up.

I would also like to add that it was totally unbelievable that all the customers were sitting down within 15ft of a burning pub... absolutely ridiculous. Has anyone ever go close to a medium size bonfire? And yet these people were not sheilding themselves at all.

And when the ambulance people came there was no direction to get the customers out of the vicinity. It was almost "ok you have ring seats to watch a massive fire pouring out of a building that has exploded a few times.. you just stay there while we also put ourselves in danger"

The point is when I am suppose to be watching a "gripping" scene it is very difficult not to notice silly mistakes..... or is it just me ;)

  • Comment number 46.

Wow! That was a bit intense wasn't it?? A fantastic job by everyone involved - the actors AND the crew to pull off an amazing end of an era show!! I suspect that Peggy - having practically lost everything - will depart the UK to join Grant and lick her wounds. I also suspect she may one day return to Walford....albeit for occational visits. Barbara Windsor MBE will im sure be missed by fans and occational viewers alike, and will continue to hold a fond place in everybodies hearts, and I would like to wish her all the best for the future. I am intrigued as to whether Phil will survive or whether he will be sent down for the fire. Steve McFadden must have relished the chance to explore Phils darker side over these last few weeks as his character became more and more lost. There must have been a few tears and intense moments during their last few days filming together, but their last scenes were flawless as Peggy's resolute defiance suddenly turned to shocked realisation that Phil would ACTUALLY do it and wasn't bluffing. For one moment there I though the last we would see of Peggy would be her resoultly standing behind the bar like a modern day Edward Smith in the wheelhouse of the Titanic. Excellent performances from both Steve and Barbara, and (as always) the fantastic Lacey Turner. It will be intresting to see how quickly the Vic is refurbished - there are pubs in this part of the UK (Cambridgeshire - I am originally from Kent lol) which burnt down years ago and still havn't been rebuilt. Its a shame Barbaras time has come to an end and with hindsight, perhaps the producers should have geared this up for a spin off comedy drama "The Mitchells" and have Phil and Grant reunited elswhere in the UK or London and get into all manor of rosey cheeked capers!! (always thought Gary and Minty could have spun off into the lead roles in a new serise of Men Behaving Badly which would have been a unique crossover). Still thats just my (random) musings!!! Farewell Barbara - the nation loves you - and welcome back Shane and Jessie. Lots of cast changes afoot then. All change please

  • Comment number 47.

great episode vey dramatic im gonna miss barber winsor playing peggy she played the part well

  • Comment number 48.

Absolutely BRILLIANT episode!!!!! Well done EE. Can we see more of Chryed please :)....they are ever so cute!!!

  • Comment number 49.

As i said earlier, all in all fantastic episode and i loved it when Zainab helped Syed and the fact that Masood put his family before himself, the same with Stacey and Lily, she got Lily out before herself and i love how EE has captured the true love of a family. Cannot wait for Kat and Alfie to return and take over the running of the Vic, Thankyou for the last sixteen years Barbara, you will be greatly missed. and well done Bryan Kirkwood, you've taken a step in the right direction.

  • Comment number 50.

well that was exciting stuff, y did some of the characters go off and not be seen again? everyone was sayin how peggy dies and thats the end of it, hmmm... cant wait for alfie and kat to come back hopefully will get stacey back on track.......

  • Comment number 51.

WoW WoW WOW!!!! What a FANTASTIC episode EE was tonight. Amazingly EPIC!!!! I loved EVERY second of it. I think that is some of the best acting i have seen in a while. Am going to miss Barbara Windsor as Peggy Mitchell soooo much what a fitting end for a very lovely lady.
Am SOOO happy stacey has finally told Ryan that he is lily's father and what a way to tell him. I REALLY want stacey and ryan to get together i think that would just be brilliant. Sorry if any1 else thinks different or thinks if that happened then poor janine but dont forget she did go home with an old man the night before her wedding!!!
The effects of tonights episode were perfect. I LOVE EASTENDERS SOOO MUCH!!!! Well done cast and crew u have all done such an amazing job. Hats off to u all.
    :P xxxxx
P.S. SOOOOOOO excited bout the return of kat and alfie woooooo hoooooo!!!

  • Comment number 52.

We all should know that Ronnie being pregnant is one of the Revelations in Friday's episode. If you don't, check the preview ;)

  • Comment number 53.

omg people still on about chryed, they was in it for like 3 seconds and its ridiculous because it was a great episode but people still have to mention those 2, y? there not that important, they are good and im glad there happy together but people never shut up about them!

  • Comment number 54.

helen: sams baby was with jack, as sam said on tuesdays episode and i think amy was with jack too but good point about kameal.

  • Comment number 55.

kentguy i think those ideas of spin offs are silly, those charaters belong in eastenders and thats it.

  • Comment number 56.

Lol, i DID say they were just random musings...... although spin offs are not unheard of.... DCI Burnside from The Bill (sorry auntie, i know that was on The Other Side) had has own (albeit short lived) show. Dynasty had The Colbys and Dallas had Knots Landing (even the emmerdale plane crash was apprently referred to on a prop newspaper in brookside - same producer or production team I remember correctly).

I just meant that the Mitchells are such iconic characters, and Barbara Windsor, Steve McFadden and Ross Kemp are good enough actors to be able to carry off a serise their own. Not necessarily all doom and gloom as they have all proved that they have a great comic touch in the last 15 or so years. As for my comments about Ricky Groves and Cliff Parisi, I happen to think (and it would appear I am on my own on this one lol) that they had a great on screen partnership, as did Neil Morrissey and Martin Clunes, and such is their comic timing and performance they would have been worthy successors to the show and above all, especially with all the dramatic plots of late, crisies in the news, perhaps it may have brought a little michevious fun back to the Ö÷²¥´óÐã schedules.

It was certainly not my intention to upset the die hard EE fans or malign the cast performances, I was merely making a speculative observation. Its been a tough, challenging and emotional year in walford, with Archie and Lucas (BOOOOO), Bradley, Sayed's sexuality and now the fire, not just for the viewers, but for the cast as well, all of whom put in superb performances throughout (especially the live episode).

Perhaps with a new producer at the help, they may stretch the legs of the cast and try taking the show in new directions, and maybe give the cast a well earned break from physically and emotionally draining scenes and allow them to have a little fun....

    Again just wild musings lol

  • Comment number 57.

Last nights episode was extremely good - even though the hysterical screaming was a bit much, but I'd like to comment on Steve McFaddens acting which has been absolutely superb - very, very believable. He is an asset to this programme - even if his character, at the moment, is not!

  • Comment number 58.

Absolutely amazing episode - I am bias because I love EE esp Stacey but it was just so good! The special effects were great especially when Stacey was looking at the fire filling the ceiling. Wish we'd seen how she got the wood off the frame that Phil couldn't though! Phil was amazing portraying coming off the crack - fantastic job. Can't imagine anyone dies as Phil wiol need to have his "getting clean" storyline which I think is important to show. Re: the everyone being too close to the Vic thing I think the idea was everyone was desperately trying to either check all their party were safe or waiting for others to come out. In that situation you'd just be in shock not measuring how close you should be! Also the ambulances were probably dealing with, I don't know, the people who were injured as opposed to making sure the OK people didn't come to any harm. Don't spoil it for everyone.

PS when I have kids I want it to be on EE cause they are the least problematic babies I've ever come across!

  • Comment number 59.

Wow.. Speechless. A whopper of an episode! the best epsisode ever!! The actors played there parts really well, and made us believe them, well done!!!!!!!!! :)

Glad Stacey didn't die, thought she was going to for a second!!

  • Comment number 60.

I think Dot smoking will have something to do with the story line, maybe she will think she started the fire? Jane took a photo of her and she was smoking so maybe Phil won't take the blame and then the photo will be found?

  • Comment number 61.

kingcole, people can want to see more of Chryed if they want! Christian and Syed, the Masoods and Stacey are the only reason I'm still watching EastEnders on a regular basis. And the promise of epic episodes like the fire, of course ;)

What you like to see and what other people like to see on EE is bound to be different, so don't sound so judgemental about other peoples preferences!

It was great episode last night, i felt for stacey trying to save her baby. stacey is a brilliant actress and i am so sad she leaving the show. Ryan was great to. it was good he found out he just saved he's baby (lily).

peggy is good and she will be missed. i think jack was looking after the babies because that where sam said her baby was. Phil was amazing again last night, i hope he lives

  • Comment number 66.

It was a gr8 ep!! im watching it again and again , it was like a xmas ep if it was it'll be one 2remember!

So tonight's the night Peggy leaves.... So sad. Also we finally get to hear 'Peggy's Theme'. Don't forget to download from itunes, lets get it into the charts !!!!!

  • Comment number 68.

Well the Vic has gone up in flames, well done to everyone concerned. The acting and the special effects were brilliant. You actually believed you were there yourself. The episode was over too quickly. Acting honour for Steve McFadden perhaps? Very pleased that no characters were killed off. Again, well done to everyone concerned

  • Comment number 69.

This is probably with worst episode I have ever see. Billy left Peggy and Phil to go and get help, wherefrom, another time zone? Would you really tell someone so high on drugs and alcohol that they don't have the nerve so set you place on fire. They don't need nerve, just another slug of magic lemonade! Really Peggy, you should have blown out the match. And as for the fire engines, you could hear the sirens for ever but no sign of them. I'm with AndYP85 on this one. Tighten up the script I say!!!

  • Comment number 70.

I am soo happy everyone is alive. I'm surpired peggy did not die but i think she will get ran over.

welldone to the cast and crew and for getting up at 12:00 a.m in the morning lol.

I cannot believe the level of intelligence of some comments.
The acting in Eastenders is atrocious.
    The Storylines are pathetic.
Finally the story regards yet another fire surpassed all that is bad about this program.
I was convinced the cast were running out of one door of the pub only to re-enter via another. The whole story was laughable.
How such a poor program can receive awards is beyond belief.
The TV license payers should be compensated for the rubbish put together by the Ö÷²¥´óÐã.

  • Comment number 73.

    Greart. Brilliant!!
When does the rest of the square come down? SOON I HOPE!
Either that or get a scrip where there is not so much shouting.

  • Comment number 74.

So sick of not being able to watch the videos, just because I live in Denmark :s

  • Comment number 75.

Fantastic Episode, I will not forget it. But I was left very dissapointed at the fact that nobody died, I thought and hoped that there were going to be about 4 or 6 characters getting killed off. Still the episode was unforgettable.

  • Comment number 76.

About half way through last nights episode, when Peggy was walking behind the bar she got to the end and you saw a 'ghostly' see through man walk behind her and crouch down.

Am guessing it wasn't a ghost as the light was bouncing off his bald head, was this a reflection of a crew member?

  • Comment number 77.

What a lovely gougeous moment it was when Zainab saved Syed! And Ryan saving Stacey and Lily then finding out he's daddy! Awww I felt so sorry for Peggy though because that was 'er pub, how's she gonna say ge'outta ma pub without a pub! ge'outta ma house just doesn't work.

  • Comment number 78.

I loved this episode I think the EastEnders team and cast did very very well. And to everyone slagging off EastEnders NO ONE told YOU to watch it did they? And what are you doing on an EastEnders website anyway?

  • Comment number 79.

eastenders people don't listen to other people it was a great episode,I agree with wellard1.

don't send mean comments. Toointelligent you can't do what these people have done.

  • Comment number 80.

toointelligent don't you think that is kind of rude? OK, I understand that everyone is entitled to their own opinion but do you have to be so negative? Like you could do better. If you think this is such an horrific program to watch, why are you here?

  • Comment number 81.

Amazing Episode!!!, don't worry baby Amy and Sam's baby where somewhere else, probably Jacks, because Sam and Roxy left the pub to check on them and then came running back when the Vic fire had started:) So glad everyone is out alive especially Stacey and baby Lily, Stacey is one of my favourite characters! I hope Ryan and Stacey get together! Can't wait for tonights episode!! Great job to all cast and crew!!:)

  • Comment number 82.

Terrible episode, so unbelievable. So many errors. For a start, what was the point on putting wooden boards over the door frame when it opens inwards. How did that fire get going so quick, bottles of spirits don't explode. Best part was Peggy running about trying to put out the roaring flames with a tea-towel. Why did Stacey go into the only room in the house with boarded up windows? And after she handed Lilly to Ryan, why didn't she follow them down rather than going back into the room on fire. As for everyone else, why did it take so long for such a small pub to empty when there are two large exits and why did everyone sit about 5 yards away from the Vic once they all finally managed to get out. No-one seemed to have a mobile phone as Dot was dispatched home to call the fire brigade.

  • Comment number 83.

I'm just gutted, pardon the pun...I don't want Peggy to leave the square. Probably coz I don't like change!!

  • Comment number 84.

I found this episode so emotional! great acting!
    Loved it. farewell to Peggy!
EastEnders won't be the same without her! :-)

I am not being ignorant but I know it's meant to be dramatic but hell that scene with peggy and phil goes on a bit. I was looking forward to all the dramatic scenes with the fire

toointelligent - try changing the channel then. There is a reason that TVs are provided with remote controls. I would assume, from your name, that you've figured out how to turn off a TV programme you never enjoy.

I to thought it was a poor ending ie nobody died , this fire was thrown in because the Vic needed a paint job to get ready for HD

Superb episode. Well done Ö÷²¥´óÐã/Eastenders and great acting - no *superb* acting, especially from Barbara and Steve but then they always do and always did.

I'm curious - Ryan's the father of Stacey's baby? Since when? If that's true why tell everyone Archie raped her and that's why she killed him?! No, I think she wants a father for her baby and she feels that Ryan's the right man for the job. Curious storyline to have running in the background but we'll see. :)

Anyway Peggy, you'll be very sadly missed. At least the door's been left open so maybe a future special awaits huh? :P

i wonder how and why that explosion happened... the first one, i think, was caused by alcohol from the bottle that Phil broke.. but the second one?? No idea..

I think it nice for a change that nobody died in that fire...

Steve Mc Fadden is one terrific actor.. i do hope his 'Phil' will clean up his act and fight for his place at the head of the M family.

It was a great episode...it was so not worth saving phil though they soud of saved stacey first...but still glad that no one died, it was truely the best episode!

So they burnt down the Queen Vic - pity they couldn't have fanned the flames with the scripts. As someone who works in the real East End, this series is about as realistic as capped teeth. It is also soooooo depressing, real life isn't like that either. I understand that Shane Ritchie and Jessie Wallace are coming back as Kat and Alfie, least they might bring some humour back to it. For me it was last watchable when Leslie Grantham was in it.

The bell rope from the Queen Vic was made by my late father, we were wondering if there was anyone we could contact about this.

that was an amazing episode i couldnt of been more scared at some times i thought everyone might die at some stages of the show. now that peggy has gone they have lost a really good character but the show will still be a really good one to watch.

Kat and alfie are coming back it was i have heard and that will be good to see as they were good when i last saw them.
