EastEnders live insert... didn't Billy do well?

Charlotte | 10:30 UK time, Tuesday, 24 July 2012

Last night finally saw Billy Mitchell's dream realized as he performed in the Olympic torch relay LIVE!

It was touch and go as to wether Billy would actually make it on time after being stuck on a tube and locked out of his flat... not to mention having his new trainers replaced by a pair of fluffy slippers!

Walford residents celebrated the moment with a good old East End street party, and most of the cast were present to give Billy听a high five as he lapped the square with the torch.

But one important member of the Mitchell clan was nowhere to be seen. Billy's grandaughter, Lola, was going into labour at McClunky's during his relay... but in a rare happy ending, Billy mananged to make it on time to see Lola give birth... and there wasn't a dry eye in the house!

    Congratulations everyone at EE!!!!
This episode was great, I was really excited about the Olympic torch, Billy was fab!
Also, many congratulations to the young lady who plays Lola. That scene must have been exceptionally difficult, but giving birth LIVE must be soooo nerve wracking, I thoguht she did BRILLIANTLY!!!!!
I especially love the ending after Lola had her baby and then practically the entire Square was gathered in the doorway!
It was a really really fab episode, well done to all involved.
    Much love

Having seen the Olympic Torch myself, it started me thinking differently about the Games. It was really exciting to watch Billy carry the Torch around the Square. I kept waiting to see when the "live" bit started. Well done to all, especially Billy and Lola. It was well worth the wait.

Why doesn't he seem to be listed on london2012.com/torch-relay/torchbearers?

Suzz - Lola is Billy's Grandchild, not Great Grandchild. Her baby is his Great Grandchild & the actor Perry Fenwick is now 50. But the storyline is that the whole family had their children in their very early teens. For once this is a storyline that I liked, humans are meant to reproduce very young (and protect, not kill their young) this is a postivie story for once. Though no doubt EE will bring dark negatives into it later to try and stigmatise what could be a good, inspiring, life afirming- role model.

Best episode yet Perry. The papers were a bit weird though calling the crowd '450 extras'. Loads more people than that would have genuinely turned out to see Perry, if given the chance, even if this wasn't so called 'real'. Because they would want to show their support for Perry & what the torch represents.
