Googleganger

The Belfast Telegraph has introduced me to the concept of a Googleganger, by noting in their Insider column that if you put my name into the search engine, the first result is, apparently, the writer, director and star of a film called "Why I Hate Parties (But Pretend to Love Them). Insider notes that this is probably my job description. Since I didn't plant the story, one thing I wonder is why they were Googling me in the first place?

I played this game with my staff recently. I put their names in Google to see who they "really" were and see how they matched them up.

We had (among others) a pro-democracy campaigner, the national drug strategy manager for the health service executive, a 13 year-old shot putter and a porn star.

Due to bebo, 3 of them were themselves.

As to why the tele were googling you, they must have been bored. That's how I came up with the game.

Don鈥檛 believe everything you read in the Belfast Telegraph! How could you trust a newspaper that uses exploited immigrant workers to sell its product at busy road junctions.

To Mark Devenport

Hello my name is Mark Devenport, writer director and actor of said short film, 'why I hate parties'(But pretend to love them)

Whenever I put my name into goolge (if I'm VERY bored, like I am now) I always find reams of stuff relating my namesake to political news coverage in Northern Ireland, so I know exactly how you feel.

Take care,

MD

P.s The film is available on DVD as part of the extras on Chris Cookes' 'One for the Road' which I acted in. It's a little childish and purile in places so it might not be your cup of tea.
