Introducing... This week

Huw Stephens Huw Stephens | 11:32 UK time, Friday, 27 July 2007

Storming new single from This City is opening up the show this week. The Brighton band's single is coming out on Label Fandango, an off-shoot of the ever green Fierce Panda. Another Brighton band were in session, 4 or 5 Magicians, including their cover of Sebadoh's Gimme Indie Rock. Session sounded great - check their myspace for live dates.

Other highlights on the show include Penny Broadhurst (playing Strummerfest in Leeds this Sunday), Bill Davro from Warrington, and S.H.A.P.E.S from London. This week's Introducing Podcast is a good 'un too with Noah and the Whale kicking it off - it'll be online tomorrow.

Check this week's Introducing Podcast for a 30 minute programme of great new tunes.
Vic Galloway is presenting the show next week as I'm off on holiday.

Take care H

How Many Magicians?

Huw Stephens Huw Stephens | 18:35 UK time, Wednesday, 25 July 2007

I'd say 4 or 5. Yup, the band named 4 or 5 Magicians from brighton are in sesison tonight, with their Maida Vale session sounding every bit as exciting as you'd hope. They're one single old, a split with Johnny Foreigner who they gig with, and are a band we predict good things for in the future. Also ont he show this week Big Scary Monsters is DIY label of the week, and there's tunes by the much talked abotu Noah and the Whale, hip hop from S.H.A.P.E.S and kaptin is tipping us on the Welch hip hop scene. Expect more ace indie from Norwich and live tracks recorded at Lake Stage at Latitude from Slow Club and Monkey Swallows the Universe.
Nice one ya'll!

The Lake Stage rocked it!

If you were at Latitude festival over the weekend I hope you got a chance to enjoy the music on the Lake Stage. It was pretty impossible not to to be honest, with the stage taking pride of place in the centre of the stunning site and the music all being hand picked by me! Big thanks to everyone who played – I can’t start naming highlights as everybody brought something different to the stage, and you can hear some of the highlights on the show this week. Label of the week is Try Harder records and we caught up with the boys at Latitude, and our tipster is Ipswich boy James Severy who played a great gig.
Also, make sure you check out this week’s Unsigned Free Download from Friday – all recorded live at Latitude…

We'll have live hoghlights ont he show next Wednesday from the Lake Stage and Rob da Bank will have a spoken word Latitude special on his show on Sunday night. there's a good crossover with members of Bobby McGee's, Middleman and Scroobius Pip palying on the Lake Stage and the Poetry Arena too. Full report on Latitude on the blog when I'm back!

Breaking the Illusion...

Huw Stephens Huw Stephens | 15:46 UK time, Wednesday, 4 July 2007

...is in session tonight on the show - the fantastic group from Leeds who were on the Ö÷²¥´óÐã Introducing Stage at Glasto last week. I've been playing their tracks Sweet Talk and Mr Boucner on the show since we first heard them, and the sesison tonight should explain what all the fuss is about with the band bringing something nicely different from Leeds to the music table. Also tonight the DIY label of the week focus is on records who continually bring great new leftfield music to us from Birmingham. Check out new tunes from Superswamis who Bobby Friction and Nihal have been hammering on their show, more live highlights from the Introducing stage at Glastonbury, and tracks from Hush the Many and Swound too in the mix. Catch you at midnight:)
