Ìý3. Shystie Feat. No Lay & Ghetts - Takeover

Shystie

Shystie

My third track of the month comes from three legendary grime MCs, , and , with their track, Takeover. This single is the theme track to a recently released movie called, SKET. On the track, which is getting an official release in December, all three spitter's go hard! The production also has quite an old skool grime vibe about it, and that's what really caught my ear when I heard it a month ago.

2. SP - Glory

My second track of the month comes from , and he's an MC hailing from Birmingham. He sent me the link to this track a couple of weeks ago and I've literally been listening to it on repeat ever since. SP freestyles over Ryan Leslie's Glory and totally owns it. For an MC to spit over an R&B beat and do what has been done here, they deserve a pat on the back! Listen to the bars closely, it's quite deep.

1. TRACK OF THE MONTH: Marger Feat. Josh Osho - This Year

My track of the month comes from an MC who I've featured in my top three many times before, and he goes by the name of . Produced by , Marger teams up with Universal-signed for this catchy, mainstream-friendly track. Although it has got a strong mainstream vibe about it, Marger he keeps it 100% grime with the flow! Watch out for all three of these guys in 2012, because they're destined for big things.

Tip of The Week: Billy Lockett - Balance

Post categories:

Dan Lucas Dan Lucas | 17:14 UK time, Thursday, 24 November 2011

is a boy who's lived in Northampton his whole life. Learning to play piano in his basement, a room apparantly full to the brim of old slot machines, canvases, board games and band equipment, Billy started playing aged 8 and hasn't stopped since.

He has been raised jamming with his father's friends and gigging in local pubs, and is now ready to take his music from his Northampton basement to the huge audience of the Radio 1 playlist.

ÌýThis track Balance will be played on the Radio 1 daytime shows all week and it's a song that really epitomises the folky story-telling feel of Billy's music. If you like Mumford & Sons, I think you'll really appreciate the opening 30 seconds of this at least. Enjoy!

Tip of The Week: Save Your Breath - Don't Let Me Down

Post categories:

Dan Lucas Dan Lucas | 10:30 UK time, Monday, 14 November 2011

South Wales has been a hot bed of talent in the UK over the last 10 years, producing some of the most critically acclaimed acts that have seen huge success nationally and on stages overseas.

Save Your Breath are yet another South Wales talent, a band finding their feet in the UK hardcore scene, and looking to step from the underground into the spotlight. They've shared the stage with the likes of Funeral for a Friend, Kids In Glass Houses, Polar Bear Club, Set Your Goals, Young Guns and The Rocket Summer, so you can expect a lively noisy encounter if you get yourself down to one of their gigs.

I was lucky enough to be in the pit taking photos of them at Reading 2011. The tattoos, raw expression, dives into the crowd and capillary bursting screams were a pleasure to photograph, and they played some pretty decent music too. Here are the explosive highlights from that set.

Dealing with family tragedies, drug addiction and discontentment, the positive influence of friendship has provided the band with strength and inspiration whilst everything else has fallen to pieces around them. Playing live it's 5 friends on a stage with their lives laid bare, sharing their experiences with anyone and everyone who will listen. Bear that in mind when this track Don't Let Me Down comes on the Radio 1 playlist this week, and I'd encourage you to drift away and join the boys in the virtual moshpit, as I know that's where they'd be.Ìý

Huw's Label of Love: Finders Keepers Records

Post categories:

Huw Stephens Huw Stephens | 14:22 UK time, Thursday, 10 November 2011

This week Label of Love is all about Records. Andy Votel; music maker, artist and record digger came on the show to tell me about this astonishing label. Him and Doug Shipton from the label travels the world, finds music that they love and hasn't been released, and puts it out there in compilations and full albums. The artwork, passion and love that goes into their records makes them one of the most diverse and fascinating labels on the planet.

Tip of The Week: Future History - Money Cash Now

Post categories:

Dan Lucas Dan Lucas | 10:30 UK time, Monday, 7 November 2011

Ìý

Bluzey & Swift-Lee - two rappers born and bred in Peckham, South London - make up Future History, and come armed with life-inspired lyrics about growing up in the city.

Back in June they joined our Introducing family on the muddy pilgrimage down to Glastonbury. Bringing urban city stories to a farm in the West Country can be a difficult marriage, and occasionally when hip hop acts step out of their van in fresh kicks and crisp T's onto the wet brown sludge, I fear they don't quite know what they're getting themselves into. Future History however, handled it expertly as you can see here

This track Money Cash Now will be on the Radio 1 playlist all week, and feels like a rather fitting track to fill the airwaves after being captivated by last week. If you missed it, watch it, and remember kids, crime don't pay!
