Memory Tapes is an opportunity for one of you lovely lot to divulge in some memories and provide the soundtrack. It can be happy, it can be sad, it can be wistful, it can be a lesson for us all. Today's Memory Tape is from Jenny in Dalston, London and this mix is for, and inspired by, her brother Matthew:

"At last I've salvaged my tape collection from my loft and can confirm the track listing to my most precious mix tape, which I'd love to share on Memory Tapes.

My brother Matthew made this tape in the late 80s sometime; he died in December 1988, making this mix all the more precious. At the time I was only 11 and most of this music sounded like noise to me, but as my tastes matured and I left Kylie behind, I grew to treasure this tape not just because it was his but because I even liked how it sounded.

Matthew flounts my mix tape rule of never putting more than one song by the same band on a mix - or if you do, never to put them next to each other. But I forgive! The bands are such a good show of the greatness of 80s alternative music, before indie became mainstream. Even though many of the bands had breakthrough hits at the time and/or went on to lasting success."
