Autumnwatch and Springwatch series producer

Springwatch series producer Adam White looks ahead to Springwatch 2016

Stone Curlew from our live camera

I am delighted to be able to tell you that Springwatch is back for our 12th year, and our third year from RSPB Minsmere in Suffolk. As Series Producer on the watches, this is my first spring (having done Autumnwatch & Winterwatch). For me this is a double pleasure. Springwatch is in my honest opinion one of the jewels in the 主播大秀’s crown and a chance to work with the most extraordinary team of people both in the industry but also working with amazing partners in the natural world (not least the RSPB here at Minsmere). Minsmere has a very special place in my heart having visited first in October 1985 as a schoolboy with my birding companion Tony Payne. I vividly remember seeing our first Bittern and Great white Egret, both extremely rare birds at the time.

We have a swallow nest on our cameras this year!

For me, Springwatch is Nature’s version of the Olympics, and Minsmere is one of the best places in the whole of the UK to watch it and Chris, Martin and Michaela as usual are your perfect hosts. But you don’t have to wait for the evening to catch up on the action. We will be broadcasting all through the day on . Stay tuned on you computer or phone and you won’t miss a beat.

This year we want you to get involved as never before. We will be showing you amazing opportunities to get out, and get close to wildlife in the 主播大秀’s . Often we think these experiences are reserved for the select few, but that just isn’t the case. There is a world of opportunity out there, wherever you live, whatever wildlife you are interested in. Martin will be earning his keep this year. He’s joining the volunteers on the reserve and helping with the wildlife management. This should be great fun, plus he’s guaranteed some close encounters.

We are HUGELY excited to have a sparrowhawk nest!

David Lindo aka The Urban Birder has been to three of the UK’s iconic cities this spring and quite frankly has astonished us all with the wildlife he has found right in the heart of our busiest streets. And Nick Baker will be reporting on some inspirational volunteering efforts around the country.

After a very strange start to the spring weatherise, it is going to be really interesting to see what effect this has had on our wildlife. As usual we have the place completely bugged. We have a Sparrowhawk nest with 5 eggs. What’s really exciting is that we also have cameras on their plucking post, where the male hands over food to the female. So we should be in for some great behaviour. As if that wasn’t enough, really close to the Sparrowhawks is where a blue tit and a great tit have chosen to build their nests. They both have 13 eggs, laid on the same day. It will be really interesting to see not only how they compare, but also how they fare so close to their main predator.

This year we are really expanding our surveillance cameras. We have sent Iolo Williams to the Farne Islands, one of the best seabird colonies in the whole of the UK. He will be bringing the latest reports of some wonderful families as they bring up their young. Hopefully we should see Arctic Terns, Eider Ducks, Shags and we have cameras in two Puffin burrows.

Even further north, in Scotland we are very excited to be able to bring you intimate footage from a Springwatch first….a Golden Eagle nest. We know almost nothing about this iconic bird, so everything we learn over the next few weeks will be adding to what we know about these birds.

We'll have the usual cast of amazing characters as well...

Of course this is live telly. So we never know what is going to happen over the next three weeks. Who will be this year's star of the show after last years Spineless Simon? What I can guarantee you is that what ever dramas do happen, we will be able to bring it you like no-one else.

Please enjoy the show and please get involved
