Six stunning photos of today's "hurricane sun"

Across the British Isles, people have been looking to the skies today as the sun took on a mysterious shade of red. 

The phenomenon was first spotted in the West of England and Wales, before moving across other parts of the UK. It has been caused by sands picked up in the Sahara by wind as it moves northward with ex-hurricane Ophelia. 

For many, it was a perfect chance to get out with their cameras.
