Thursday 17 December 2009 - the plan so far

Verity Murphy | 12:52 UK time, Thursday, 17 December 2009

Mark Urban returned from Afghanistan last week having spent time with the US marines operating in Helmand.

Mark was with the marines as they fought to seize back control of the town of Now Zad from insurgents - he wrote about this in his blog while he was there.

And tonight, we will be broadcasting the film Mark has made on his time embedded with the troops.

We are also looking at the Copenhagen climate summit, MPs' expenses and British Airways.

More details later.

did Mark take out the board game called War on Terror? to see what the americans would make of it?

on Games Britannia [pt2] show on iplayer the makers say they have had feedback from brits serving in afghanistan question why they are there after playing the game?

apparently normal game shops and shows won't touch it and police have even seized the balaclava.

It looks like jj, aka jaunty, thinks all my friends, especially my landlords and co, belong to him.

why doesn't he make his own friends?
i shall be leaving here quite soon anyway

It looks like what we are witnessing on these pages today is, if not a coup d’état, then certainly an uprising against the shambolic game that the Ö÷²¥´óÐã and the Government have been involved in for quite a long time now but which culminated last night in the Planet Earth’s climate being dependent on /or otherwise ‘seduced’ by/ 2 plastic bottles in a house in Belsize Park.

    Wonderful, wonderful Copenhagen

I travel regularly to Copenhagen on my way to Poland every February for the last twelve years, flying SAS or Lufthansa.

There has never been a year yet when I have not seen the icebreaking ships out in the approaches to the harbour, slicing through the ice and thus opening up the port; from the sky it is a wonderful sight, plumes of ice fanning out from the bows of the ships.

Does this mean global warming is a myth?

I watch items on TV, read articles about droughts, forest fires and pollution; does this mean global warming is real?

Climate change activists are rapidly becoming the new fundamentalists.

It seems to make sense to attempt to create a less polluting world, but no wonder people are sceptical when just about every one-issue zealot gives their personal pitch a global warming slant, eg veggies and methane from cattle - what about the artificial environment in commercial greenhouses?, e-cars - but they use metals mined in an eco unfriendly way in China; and carbon trading still sounds like a scam to me.

As with many issues these days, it seems impossible to find an objective view of the facts,(emphasis on facts) and I just don't believe that,if an objective exposition of the situation indicated that human behaviour needed to change, that people would resist.

People are not stupid, they are however becoming increasingly cynical, which is really dangerous.

Objective exposition of the facts; isn't that what the Ö÷²¥´óÐã and NN are supposed to do?

    The world's favourite airline

I stopped using BA 13 years ago when I had to intervene between a uniformed BA stormtrooper and a rather lost looking Far Eastern lady at Heathrow, as the oaf bellowed in the poor woman's face "Well it's not my fault if you can't speak English!"

On reflection after my return to the UK, I asked my then PA to phone BA's Customer Services Director; my PA was told that the "C.S.D." did not speak to customers but if I would like to write... which I did and am still waiting for a response after 13 years. B.A. lost almost 1 million p.a. in flight sales from myself and my team - in 1996 that was a lot of dosh - and KLM, Lufthansa, and others shared the proceeds.

It was common knowledge back then that the main reason business still used BA was because their Airmiles allocations were the most generous of the major airlines.

BA has been rotting for a long time and Walsh won't stop it. Best policy is, in truth, "ANYBODY BUT BA".

I have myself been somewhat cautious with regard to claims about global climate change but then if so many scientific centres have evidence of the polar icebergs melting down then who am I to doubt them?

Will we also have an apology for the Ethical Man charade from last night?

1 jc "..the board game called War on Terror" your link sounds like a welcome replacement for the boring but traditional after-Christmas-dinner family board game of Monopoly, which will soon be banned and all copies seized (under Equalities legislation)as antisocial incitement to get-rich-quick through property dealing in sub-prime mortgages. This will shortly be replaced by the new world-government sponsored board game 'The Incomevenal Truth' the objective of which is to create a few fat cats by bankrupting most ordinary players.

the new game must be called climate change.

the idea is to get rich quick through carbon trading and cap and trade schemes bogus or not or through climate change religion or through climate change marxism er i mean 'climate justice'.

the game's catch phrase will run 'to make money how inventive can you be?'
