Wednesday 2 December 2009 - the plan so far
Here is what we are planning for tonight's programme:
Half of the programme will be coming from Washington DC tonight as we take a closer look at President Barack Obama's speech in which he announced that a further 30,000 US troops will be sent to Afghanistan.
Gavin Esler is in DC and will be speaking to Senator John McCain - among others. It is Mr McCain's first in-depth interview with the Ö÷²¥´óÐã since his failed presidential bid.
Presenting the London bit of the programme will be Jon Sopel, who is doing another stint on Newsnight. Up for discussion tonight, google's decision to limit free news access.

Now Sopal is a bang on professional - he can do Newsnight with ease technically, but you always get the feeling his just going through the motions.

As a viewer of The Politics show, I was moved on several occasions to compliment Jon an a job well done. I am rarely so moved in these Son et Lumiere, edgy times.

In some ways I share your view on Jon Sopel with a pleasant enough presence coming off the screen and a 'safe pair of hands' for all the interviewees but lacking somewhat in the ability or willingness perhaps to challenge people or their 'ideas'.

if all the banks are making massive profit and so need massive bonuses why do they need taxpayer money?
psychologically it doesn't feel like the bankers are rowing on the oars with the rest of us?

If you are going to be covering that element of our digital future perhaps you could tag onto the end a discussion about the letter which Google, Facebook, Yahoo and e-Bay have co-signed and sent to Lord Mandelson?
Those companies want the removal of Clause 17 from Lord Mandelson's 'Digital Economy' Bill which refers to changes in copyright.
