Friday 6 May 2011

Sarah McDermott | 11:54 UK time, Friday, 6 May 2011

Lots of Newsnight happening tonight on Ö÷²¥´óÐã Two. We start at 7.30pm with Jeremy presenting a special programme on the verdict of the 7/7 London bombings inquest. Richard Watson will be presenting the main findings of the inquiry for us, which has formally ruled that the 52 people who died in the suicide attacks were unlawfully killed.
All throughout this week we've been hearing accounts from survivors and relatives of each of the attacks that took place that day in the capital and tonight we have the final film in that remarkable series, plus we'll be joined in the studio by some of the people who contributed to those films to discuss if the inquiry is going to provide some closure for them.

Then later, in a special hour-long programme at 10.30pm, we'll be analysing the results of the UK local, Welsh, Scottish and AV polls. Our political editor Michael Crick will bring us the latest on the AV result which is still coming in, and will be assessing where heavy losses for the Lib Dems in England, significant wins for the SNP in Scotland, and the Conservatives holding ground in England all leaves British politics.

David Grossman is in Bristol asking Lib Dem grassroots supporters how their party blew their big chance to get electoral reform, and what they should do now in coalition. Iain Watson reports from Edinburgh on the SNP's surge to Holyrood victory.

And we'll be joined by Danny Finkelstein, Olly Grender and Peter Hyman to chew over the events of the day.

Do join Jeremy at 1930 on Ö÷²¥´óÐã Two, and then later Kirsty, who is at Holyrood, joins Jeremy at 2230 for the election special.

LIES - DAMNED LIES and ADJUSTED IMAGES

It is troubling enough that government, and its agencies, regards image-tampering as de rigueur, but to compound the practice with peculiarly SELECTIVE TERMINOLOGY, seems indicative of a deeper malaise.

    1) The crucial photos of one of the 7/7 bombers were DEGRADED BEYOND EFFICACY. I am no computer whiz, but even I know that the easiest operation is to send an image from ones files, UNMOIFIED. The enigma is compounded in that the CROPPING of the 7/7 photos is CONSTANTLY REFERENCED when commenting on their DEGRADATION. This is bizarre. It has the USUAL obfuscation feel that surrounds all matters of 'Terrorism'.

    2) In the 2010 election campaign, Dave spent a vast sum on a giant poster campaign employing a TOTALLY FALSE IMAGE of his face. Thereafter, across the media, the image was referred to as 'AIRBRUSHED'. Airbrushing is a softening, blurring of the original image, yet what was applied to Dave's face was PHOTO-SHOPPING: a change of aspect ratio, eye and lip parameters etc; A VISUAL FALSEHOOD. Why did media, universally, call it 'airbrushed'?

How incongruous that we get NO picture of Bin Laden. One could surely have been ‘CROPPED’ to look like the proverbial cat in a coal-hole, or ‘AIR-BRUSHED’ to come out looking like Lady GaGa.

#4 No online image can be trusted Barry. You would have to view raw files and they can not be viewed online - they have to be converted to jpegs and are assigned the colour profile - sRGB IEC6 1966-2.1 which has inferior colour information to Adobe RGB (1998) you would also want to view Exif data, but there are a whole load of issues on the other side of the coin with that regards privacy :-

    #7 'obfuscation feel'
Massive over hype with the jackanory as well. We accept far far more risk from car travel yet the powers that be - sociopaths seem intend on making excuses for going to war and social engineering under cover of the said manufactured financial banking scam of epic levels. I'll be keeping an eye on Dr Tobras but feel it will come down to people taking action when they realise they really are shafted - the higher education cost is the opening shot to the new debt slavery. The 'REALLY' has to REALLY sink in.

Cant wait to go to sleep and not watch globalist controlled high pay cutout blabbing Ö÷²¥´óÐã NN presenters .

    NOT VERY BRIGHT

Cameron says 'the British people are the boss' (implying they chose FPTP). No Mr Cameron. The underhand, lying, deceitful, totally independent, NO Campaign, dominated their simple intellect, AS YOU LOOKED ON and 'saw that it was good'.

FILM PLUVIEUX AT ITS TURNERESQUE BEST

I was thrilled by the spectacle of three people under two Ö÷²¥´óÐã umbrellas, framed by the night sky, while the relentless rain fell - partly upon unprotected shoulders.
The allegorical allusion was breathtaking - a tour de force of edgy news production, in the media space, going forward. Bravo team.

BECAUSE THE ENGLISH ARE A SPENT FORCE LIZZY. (#14)

There is a lot of loose talk about Salmond never getting his independent Scotland. But they reckon without the decay of England. I predict that, as the Scots watch England go into decline at an ever-increasing rate, so the number wanting to be free of us will grow. It is natural to excise a malignant growth.

In passing: how would any person of integrity feel having won the AV ballot with a campaign that would have accrued a court appearance - were there any law covering referenda. It needs a very special kind of mentality - found all too commonly in Westminster - to feel no twinge of conscience after such a tainted 'win'.

Would anyone want their child to grow up to behave in this manner?

Politics: the art of self deception, wrapped in the craft of deceiving others for their own good.

    Nuff sed.

"TIME TO MOVE ON" - THEY WOULD SAY THAT WOULDN'T THEY (moving targets)

'Look officer: I am not disputing that I have been shop-lifting, nor that when you arrested me I called you a miserable little compromise. But don't get tribal about it, lessons have been learned; it's time to move on.'

NICK n DAVE's CIRCUS is leaving town. During a recent performance, Dave got a bunch of strong-men to shake Nick's support structure, and Nick fell of the wire - luckily being caught in a tangled web he made earlier.

So IT'S TIME TO MOVE ON - they agree. Dave wants to move on because a few of the audience might still remember what actually went on; and Nick, like a cat with a tin tied to his tail (by Dave) just knows he must RUN AND RUN.

But in truth, all is 'well'. BRITAIN HAS NO LAW AGAINST LYING IN A REFERENDUM (and precious little law about political lying AT ALL.) This is the Westminster Ethos.
Politics is a game; a game played by delusional needtobes, in which poor outcomes and waste matter little, deceit and dishonour are currency, and accountability is of no account.

#11 Proved my point; here is another one for you to 'refer for further consideration'

The Ö÷²¥´óÐã are part of a mass effective propaganda to make people accept the globalist war machine. The blanket coverage of 'the war on terror' narrative when the US and UK and others have been part of vast killings and invasions is sickening to the stomach . Place 'the deficit' (cover for social re engineering ) narrative next to the war on Libya and you realise its all about resource / land grab and installing debt to the IMF . You finally found a way to do it effectively - 'help' those on the ground to have the confidence to rise up and demonstrate in the street ( they have no ideology or plan to govern and therefore are ripe for exploitation by the US, UK others and IMF so much for 'help' ) , this provokes a response from the dictators they start using heavy weapons = you go in with planes and $ million rich missiles pumped in . While back at home 1000's loose their jobs due to the austerity narrative which was due to the bankers massive fraud but that's OK all their delusional tricks are still in place; the Irish have been taken in will the Greeks ? Maybe more delusional tricks laid on with a heavy hand to force them to obey ?

What will you do when the UK US people eventually rise up use US drones to kill them while calling them the Taliban and Al-Qaeda ?

    GLOBAL DAWNING DELAYED SHOCK (#21)

As with 9/11, AV, and a range of topics in between, enough data is available. What is not available, to the institutionalised ('educated') individual, is mature awareness and the ability to think outside the lie.

Can you find a Minister for AWARENESS in Westminster? Hardly - awareness is like daylight to the trolls vampires who lurk that Citadel.

Poor Chris Huhne - clinging to the AGW myth, on the AV campaign high-ground. Not long now . . .

FREEDOM OF SPEECH - NA NANA-NA NAAAA CAN'T HEAR YOU (#22)

I should never have read Big Brother. Much is made of its prophesies (doublethink, the Memory Hole, etc) but THE END is the most telling - the death of spirit.

Westminster is lost to the lie, as is the Ö÷²¥´óÐã. The military are just 'doing the job they love' and 'Education X 3' has emasculated most of those mavericks who would have become unsilencable 'Soothsayers' of British Error.

In short: the decline and fall of British flowering is past the point of reversal. In future histories, our disaster will be just another failed experiment by the Ape Confused by Language.

We are such stuff as nightmares are made of.

Paul Adams - Ö÷²¥´óÐã correspondent - has just spoken on 'From Our Own Correspondent'.
He seems to be 'right there' in America, but reports the 'Bin Laden attack on the Twin Towers' as just that. Once again, I am driven to the view that the Ö÷²¥´óÐã has no time for reporting massive American dissent (justified dissent) regarding the 'unexplained demolition of THREE towers'

These professionals 'attended the event' and many died. Has Paul Adams of the Ö÷²¥´óÐã met none?

    CRUISE LINE (For flicks3 #29 - Written 7 July 2005)

Blair’s Holy War came to London today
a cowardly act, I heard someone say
no warning - just suddenly all blown away
so much fairer to use a Cruise Missile.

You can’t kill your Granny who’s begging to die
and no fish must suffer, not even small fry
go slaughter Iraqis on back of a lie
it’s quite fair if you use a Cruise Missile

The pre-emptive strike now accepted worldwide
guilty till innocent - nowhere to hide
evil-doers can be bombed where their families reside
but play fair and deploy a Cruise Missile.

Make poverty history - cancel the debt
but what of the poverty lingering yet
in the hearts of those men whose ambitions are met
as they launch that cowardly Cruise Missile?

WHEN IS A SIMPLE CROSS NOT SO SIMPLE - WHEN IT'S A DOUBLE CROSS

Anyone who took the trouble to dissect AV, will have spotted that the claim of multiple counting was a fatuous, false, red herring that obscured the truth of DIFFERENTIALLY VALUED VOTES: there is no way that a second or third preference is of equal WEIGHT to a first preference. This valid complaint was not made.

But taking a hard look at FPTP, we immediately see that VOTES HAVE ALWAYS BEEN DIFFERENTIALLY VALUED according to CONSTITUENCY SIZE, and Westminster has never corrected that anomaly (though we now have rumours).

So the referendum was a multifaceted charade. Dave won a discreditable victory, Nick a wooden spoon and the electorate the booby prize. Democracy, under the rule of (absent) law.

I HOLD NO BRIEF FOR ABUSE OF ANY KIND except of NewsyNighty excesses. (#32)

But if we are going to receive images of Jenny Foreigner, mutilated by her own kind, let us also run that fibre-optic (I called for a while back) into a collateral rubble pile, and DISTRIBUTE A MOVIE of slow, agonising foreign death - all our own work.

Further, since the West has long known of the rich diversity of tobacco-induced disease, yet continued to POISON OUR OWN PEOPLE with legalised poison, and tax their enslaved complicity, I propose we bring our ‘ASSETS’ (killing facility) home from foreign soil, AND BOMB OURSELVES INTO DEMOCRACY, UNDER THE RULE OF LAW.

    What's that you say?

    You're a laughing stock.

When are you going to get it ? My relatives 10 year old just said of the video (with sound withheld for security reasons LOL ) that looks like the Obama with a stick-on beard. Thanks its a bit rainy here; we all had a decent laugh .

  • Comment number 36.

@35 Were you watching the vid of a suspiciously dark-bearded Osama? The correspondent was discussing how well he looked compared to previous vids.

    My thoughts were:

    1) You can dye your hair.
    2) Even if the Americans didn't forge it, perhaps al-Q did. (if it exists.). Saddam was said to have several body doubles. (I have a friend who is a dead ringer for Iain Duncan-Smith much to his chagrin!)

Videos in themselves prove nothing without trustworthy supporting testimony.

Here is a less generous view of him - perhaps it's a bit of an assassination.

But perhaps he deserves it? Evans does adjust his message depending upon who his audience or paymaster is.

Thie complexities of this saga seem more and more like Umberto Eco's 'Foucault's Pendulum'. Perhaps Al Qaeda was a CIA invention, but actually spawned real recruits? Would we know any better?

IF this is just a bad soap opera, then has anyone noticed Frank Gardiner, the Ö÷²¥´óÐã's cameo "security expert"? Part of him acting the part is the face which never smiles: just to make sure we know that he's talking about something very very serious.

Considering 'the conspiracy' is that all 'this' is to distract the dumb public, the 'powers that be' are not doing too badly judging by this blog - and we like to think we are intellectually a cut above tabloid-readers (or, presumably we'd be on their forums) - Oh, that's right, we're not measuring intelligence anymore in case someone gets offended, or discovers their 'culture' hasn't prepared them to be asked a question on logic.

  • Comment number 46.

sasha #43: you might not have seen the documentary series 'the power of nightmares', that, although i don't agree with all of it, in the later parts gives a very clear history of 'al qaeda', and how its 'fortunes' lifted alongside the neo-cons. And why. Recommended.

Clegg: there is no other British Leader who has taken his Party into such an electoral disaster, and kept his leadership. Yet i expect him to continue, because honour has no place in modern Westminster. Considering renewing the only Party membership i have ever held - Lib-Dem. Will take something of a miracle to renew the Party, but do the British people only want a choice between Tory Thatcherism, or NuLabour Thatcherism?

bbc, thank you for your efforts, haven't seen tonights show, but 'miss Pond' is not going to tell the doctor, it seems.

btw, listened to the QT show, and what struck me was the lack of human empathy displayed by the young men who proclaimed about "genetic sociopaths" on the show. How ironic - and how revealing. Andy Murray and Andy Burnham made my skin cringe - especially Burnham, who used every populist trick in the book, even being called on it by Ashdown and the human rights lawyer. No doubt his o'erweening ambition is snaking its way up his spine again, loathsome values-free 'middle manager' he clearly is.

apart from that, the most striking thing about the show is, and has been for a while, the stark contrast between the intelligence and political understanding of the audience, and the way the various politicians try to treat them as complete idjits, taken in by the mass-myths and repeated mantras (usually complete lies).

shame about AV, - when will we get a PR referendum please?

#45: clearly there are degrees of 'intelligence', you are far smarter than kev, for example. Even with the same level of education you would be. But "grading" intelligence is a retrograde step, often for the purpose of the ego of the above-average-intellectuals. It is also enormously flawed for methodology, and has also in the past been used for pseudo-science racial reasons, which i am sure you would oppose, sis.

i don't do too badly on them myself, (and i suspect it was my score on the TA tests that brought me to the attentions of the authorities many many years ago, later my political research), but i regard them with much suspicion. You're smart - very smart - so why do you NEED an 'IQ' number?

complete this sentence: "You are NOT a number, you are a ..... .....!"?

  • Comment number 50.

'Clearly' was introduced by postmodernists in the 1990s to belittle the oppostion, as in:

'Postmodernists have 'clarity' (insight) into the topic under discussion that (you, lesser) modernists do not'.

But, third eyes aside, it is nevertheless an ad hominem attack rather than reasoned debate. In fact, 'assumed, and presumed obvious-to-everyone, clarity' by-passes chunks of a debate because it is also a non-sequiteur (sp.).

You can't have degrees without numbers, you can only have feelings.

There are not only degrees there are also shades, genres, types, and preferences - all quantifiable, and also qualifiable, to a lesser or greater relevance, cost and desirability.

Ah! Now we come to the real reason - prior association with u-no-wot; Quick! get the ad hominems and non-seqs out lads! We mustn't let our children play with water pistols because they represent genocide?

Credit where credit is due - postmodernists will go through arduous mental contortions to make facts fit their utopian worldview, of being 'nice' to each other to the exclusion of any universal standards other than mediocrity.

Meanhwile the globe's territory is being gobbled up by everyone else who thinks we've gone a bit soft in the head.

2000 years of complex social development written off as 'we're just as bad as each other' - some analysis! At least Niall had 6 salient points to make ...

... one of which was the damage wreaked by Freudianism ... nightmares? sound familiar?

    politics of daily reality:

    can't pray on temple mount
can't walk on the pavement in certain streets
can't criticise political ideology but can be criminalised for trying to
don't get consulted on introduction of 'new' legal systems
don't get consulted on shrinking of female emancipation
    constantly bombarded by propaganda
    constantly patronised with erroneous comparisons

two nightmares - but if one nightmare, 'our' nightmare, is considered less culpable than the nightmare of that nightmare (i.e. ourselves) there's no real contest is there?

to what extent is the saturnian desire to 'eat one's own children' shared on both sides? or, perhaps the other nightmare sees the sense in keeping their own children alive.

  • Comment number 56.

"often for the purpose of the ego"

basically another ad hominem and totally utopian. the only people who live without ego are those who quite literally devote their lives to others such as Mother Theresa and similar. Even great, great revolutionaries and statespeople such as Nelson Mandela have an ego. Nelson kept himself alive in Robin Island (?) because he wanted to live. Thank heavens he did because what an achievement resulted from that life.

Where the ego stalks is in the removal of universal measures.

For instance, substituting 'obviously' and 'certainly' for 'clearly', substitutes a reference to the existence of reason and evidence, with a reference to an individual ability to perceive. Take out the 'I've-heard-of-Heisenberg-but-don't-actually-understand-his-principle-perception and you take out the ego. Put back the evidence and you remove the ego.

Sure, we can debate the evidence; we always have done. But that is far less retrograde than saying we don't actually need evidence because our perceptions are actually so actually clear we can actually do without it.

    WESTMINSTER - TRAGEDY OF ERRORS

Nick Clegg has just imparted to Andrew Marr his intention to make Britain "ONE OF THE MOST CHILD FRIENDLY COUNTRIES IN EUROPE". By George he's got it - or has he?

Some years ago I was heard on radio to say: "The fundamental Human Right is to remain unconceived." I went on to assert that once that right has been violated, NO AMOUNT OF RESPECT AND DEDICATION CAN EVER FULLY REPAY. Hence, governance should put the highest priority on the emergence of competent parenting, WITHIN A CULTURE OF INTEGRITY IN ALL THINGS. Westminster, perversely, achieves precisely the opposite.

While Westminster endures, as an integrity-free zone, Mammon will trump Mother, Bottle will beat Brest, School will outscore Security, Career will conquer Caress, Parenting will go progressively to Pot and Nicks Boast will Bomb.

ON THIS ONE SUBJECT THERE CAN NEVER BE NUFF SED!
