Belfast: the must-see destination
Everyone seems to be talking about this. The Lonely Planet Guide has named one of its top must-see destinations for 2007. Good news for the tourist board and for businesses in Belfast -- and the story is being widely reported across the UK, which is good news for the Lonely Planet Guide.

Yes I read about this...as someone who has lived here for 28 years I must say that I loath the place. I never miss it when I'm away and I can't imagine ever doing so. Oh well, maybe it's better when you only have 2 weeks. The romanticism of holiday destinations, eh?

As someone who has chosen to live here, relocating here from the end of the earth several years ago, may I say that I really like Belfast and consider it a real treasure. I think the troubles kept foreign investment out which would have replaced many of the buildings in the center of the city with glass and concrete boxes, which would have destroyed the atmosphere. As it is, I really enjoy walking through the downtown area and many of the residential areas. Maybe it helps that I wasn't born and raised here, so I don't have unpleasant memories and am happily naive.
