Hey wasn't there a comment or two here just awhile ago? I could have sworn I read something. Hmm, must have just been my imagination. :-)

I was only able to hear part of the Presbyterian report on homophobia debate, but I was appalled by the attitude of one of the Sunday paper reviewers, when she said Ian Paisley jr's remarks would be a resignation matter in most parts of Europe. Have we really reached the place where adultery, fraud, embezzlement and the likes by politicians are all right, but if someone dares to express an opinion against homosexuality he should resign? It seems to me that homosexual feelings, rights and opinions are becoming a juggernaut which is trampling on the right of free speech. And once again so-called liberals are showing that tolerance only applies to those who agree with them. Also, I will not call homosexuals "gay" simply because I believe that their use of the word is a debasement of a fine old English word whose original meaning has absolutely nothing to do with its modern hijacking.

Helloooo Mrs. S Wilson. I was beginning to wonder if there is anyone left alive in NI. It seemed today that the entire country died.

We could go round and round on this and I think others who join the discussion may want to but I'm curious about another aspect of it. Aren't there rules, laws, conventions in the EU which guarantee homosexual rights and when they are violated, aren't there remedies through the courts, like the EU court? Have any cases been brought before it?

I lestened to the Assembly meeting on Monday night. I was favourably impressed by what I heard. I normally expected the whole thing to be very dated BUT your later comments were a bit dismissive of the words spoken.

OK - they were not trendy and slick BUY, if they had talked about homosexuality etc ,everyone, including you, would have been focussing in on these elements of what was being said.
They are not stupid - their message has to be general and to all Ireland and the world; they have to speak in generalities.

For me, what they said was good , clear and set the scene for the next year. If you want sound bites go elsewhere.

I like your incisive comments and your probing interviews,but don't be so quick to run down the Presbyterian Assembly.

I am a cynic, but don't push me too far.

This is off message too, since there's no post on the genral assembly opening night here. Since you bring it up, can I say that I listened to Radio Ulster's thing tonight too and I thought it was totally dire. I'm a committed Presbyterian with fairly conservative theological views, but Presbyterianism and conservative evangelicalism should at least be connected to the real world. I disagree with you about William's commentary tonight. I thought he was spot on. The sermons were like something from the dark ages, no mention of our world and the challenges facing our church in the world today. I was embarrassed to listen to the durges being sung and the old fashioned out of date and quite pointless sermons. I want a church with a message for the world today, not the last century. The Presbyterian Church is closing down church after church and there's a reason for that. Listen to the service tonight and you see the reason.

Can anyone give a link to the opening service?

BTW ... why are you calling yourself a cynic???

I don't think the Ö÷²¥´óÐã should even cover this stuff anymore, PCI is that irrelevant.
