Individual blog entry

Did you get a LIVE 8 ticket?

Back at the start of June, as the text message ticket lottery was announced, we posted an entry on the blog about how the whole ticketing thing would work for disabled people, including some early (but slightly sketchy) details from the organisers.

Well, now that the competition is over and the lucky winners are being contacted (not me, incidentally - but hey, I'm not bitter), we want to know if any Ouch readers out there were lucky enough to secure a pair of these hugely desired tickets to the Hyde Park gig. If so, have you heard anything about disabled access and facilities at the concert? Is there going to be a raised platform for wheelchair users, that kind of thing?

Leave a comment if you've got any details. Cheers.

Hi, My partner won 2 tickets and I am waiting for the promoter to contact me relating to what facilities there will be, I rang the hotline and they merely take your name and contact details and say wait for the promoter to get back to you. Waiting to see what happens. Anyone been contacted yet? Thanks Mike.

Hi, Finally been contacted by the promoter of Live 8, only catering for disabled people in wheelchairs and only 200 !!! Disgusted that they are abandoning other disabled people, they are breaking the law. I do not need a wheelchair but cannot stand for lon or walk far. 200 places out of 205,000. They should be ashamed. They told me to get a blanket and sit on it !!!If I am lucky enough to win they need to look after my needs also. I am unable to go now. Thanks Live 8. Mike Edwards.

Hi, Ring the promoter, Harvey Goldsmith [telephone number deleted]. They should ring you, Have you been rung, they are only now allowing 140 wheelchairs and there helpers, 1 each. That number is final, Ive given my ticket away. Gutted. Good Luck. Mike.

My younger brother, aged 11, has a ticket for Live 8. I have tried ringing the number given on the ticket, and am unable to get through, i have also left a message and no-one has got back to me. What i need to know is if the helper also needs a ticket, or is the helper included on the one ticket. Also at the moment this ticket is not a disabled one but general admission. I'm not sure what to do, should i just turn up early and see if they'll let us on the disabled stand? Or do i need to change the general ticket to a disabled one? Getting slightly worried now as the gig is getting close! Any help would be much appreciated. Please post here if you have any info.

Mark please tell us - how do you ring the promoter direct? I've been frantically trying to contact them for days. why hasn't there been a scandal about this - 140 places is ridiculous!

I've now finally been contacted back by the promoter - email live8 instead of ringing up - its quicker! And I have wheelchair tickets coming but its taken such a long time and there has been so little information. Would it have killed them to put a disabled access section on the Hyde Park concert website? Some seated places for those who cannot stand would have been appreciated too. Surely the organisers/promoters have done things like this before and understand the legislation?
