X-Factor's Kerry: Exclusive!

What's this - a crip on TV who isn't trekking across Africa?

Yes, Kerry McGregor made it through Sharon's boot camp to win a place in the live knockout stage of X Factor. We've been doing a little digging this week and here's a quick roundup of facts about our favourite talent show contestant.

• Exclusive! On this Saturday's live show, she'll be performing Stevie Wonder's "You Are The Sunshine Of My Life".
• According to our source, Kerry can use crutches but doesn't have much ease of movement on them, so who knows which mobility aid she will be using on Saturday's show. A little bird tells us that they had to redesign the set to accomodate this. Allegedly.
• She once competed to represent Britain in the Eurovision Song Contest. Another little bird says that she was , so as not to garner the 'sympathy vote'.
• She appeared in the Channel 4 series 'Book Group' in 2003, and apparently, there were some with another disabled actor.

We're hoping to be able to speak to Kerry soon, but in the meantime join in with the X-Factor discussion on the Ouch! messageboards.

I think shes great, I hope she goes all the way

Actually, I think I remember seeing her on the National Lottery (as it was called then) show when they were voting for who was gonna represent us at Eurovision.

I remember her not only sitting on a stool to sing, but also really unnaturally at the end when everyone huddled together to wave "goodbye." I'm pretty sure I turned to my parents and said something along the lines of "she's hiding a wheelchair somewhere."

I just love Kerry. She is a total inspiration, as I am also a wheelie, and I just love singing. Good luck to her - hope she gets all the way to the top, and Kerry, thanks!

It will be interesting to see how it is handled. My non-disabled friends cringed when they had to lift her on and off the stage during the second round.

Go on Kerry!

I sat and watched the whole of X-Factor last night, quesioning how they were going to get Kerry onto the stage... all the others were walking down the steps and there was no sign of a wheelie ramp at all... then hey presto! Kerry was called and they made the steps into the ramp! Clever, I thought! So - GO KERRY! You can do it! Whohooo!

i think its absolutely brilliant how a contestant with a disability has entered the competition.
i just feel that people with disabilities are looked down on and are not given the chance. i think shes lovely, got a great voice and shes genuine and not out there to get the sympathy vote. good luck to her!!!

Well why is the opening line so hurtfull "What's this - a crip on TV who isn't trekking across Africa?"
Our daughter has a rare condition and was supposed to be paralised from the waist down but has shown outstanding determination and courage and now walks, but twats who make comments like the above hope some thing happens to you you twat

why do they need to "hide" a wheelchair?

i think that is wrong.

also, i thought how bad manhandling kerry up onto a stage was, why not let her go in front.. Interested to hear what she thought of that incident?
