How wonderful! Just took a break from the computer, made a cup of tea, went outside to sit in the sun (5pm) and heard what sounded like the twitter of swallows. Can't be, I thought, but then two birds flew overhead, and yes, there they were鈥 Has anyone else seen them yet this spring? If so, where?

In Cecilia, Louisiana, U.S.A. it is raining now and very cold. This is most unusual for Louisiana in the month of April. Today is April 7th, 2007 10:30 P.M.
Usually, we have our last bit of cold weather in the first or second week of March.

This comes six weeks late but for what it's worth, frogs spawned in our Brighton back garden pond in February this year.
My impression has long been that February is the coldest of the winter months.

Traveling slowly near Westmill and Nasty in Hertfordshire my friend and I both spotted a leaf green butterfly crossing across in front of the car. We both exclaimed symultaneously on its colour. If it had been yellow I would have thought it was a brimstone butterfly but it was unmistakably bright leaf/lime green.
I would like to know if it is unusual and any further info
The sighting was early April.

Heard a cuckoo on 27th April in Fletchwood Copse in Ashurst in the New Forest. Most excited about this, as I haven't heard a cuckoo here for aleast 3 or 4 years. I know they have become increasing rarer so this was a wonderful surprise! I'm waiting for the Tawny Owls to return now.

Attached to our front window we have a bird feeder,visited by our resident house sparrows and the occasional starling.
For the last two years there has been a fat female blackbird unable to enter by the three inch gap at the front but has landed on top walked to the end then somersaulted and ended up right way up inside and proceeded to feed. We had given up hope of seeing her again, but at 7.0am toay Sunday 6th of May we had a repeat performance.
How long do blackbirds normally survive ??

May 7: It is just after eight o鈥 clock on a dewy, fresh morning as I arrive in the car park outside my office.
As I get out of my car, my subconscious mind picks up on a familiar sound that suddenly makes me alert.
There it is again! A whitethroat is singing from bramble bushes beside the railway line. It鈥檚 the first I have heard this year and it cheers me up immensely.
For me, the first whitethroat is always a special occasion; a welcome confirmation that summer is almost with us.
Up here in the west of Scotland, spring is already well advanced when the bulk of the whitethroats start arriving from their wintering quarters.
But when I hear the whitethroat鈥檚 scratchy warble from hedgerow and bramble patch 鈥 as I did today 鈥 I know that summer is not too far away and all is well with the world.
Arriving at my desk after my early encounter with Sylvia Communis I bid everyone a cheery good morning.
Someone comments: 鈥淥h, you鈥檙e full of the joys of spring!鈥
Yes, I suppose you could say that.

I live in the middle of london and am amazed at the increase of wild life that is appearing here compared to when i was a boy,that's some years ago! we have some feeders on our kitchen window and yesterday morning with the heavy rain we had i could hear more that the usual noise of the birds feeding when i creeped up to see what was happening i was astonished to see a lesser spotted woodpecker. it came back several times in the morning to dominate the feeder!
