At 23rd Jul 2009, njpatrick wrote:I am very diappointed that so many British composers are still neglected by the Ö÷²¥´óÐã. The pieces by Moeran and Finzi are delightful and very welcome but the Ö÷²¥´óÐã remains in my view blinkered and as such failing many well-establshed home -grown composers. For example, I have in mind Ernest Tomlinson.
Who? You may ask? Well, if you have never heard of him, I can assure you , you have heard his music. Why is he so neglected? His output is superb and unmistakeable. He is in his mid-80s now and won't be around for much longer and then - we will re-discover him!
His "Variations on Auld Lang Syne" is a piece whch would delight the audience at the Last Night and bring the house down. Why has this never been broadcast?
His trumpet Concerto is being performed this November in Bergen - but not in London or Manchester. Will someone of influence please take note before we lose him? I guarantee you will enhance your reputation by championing him...
