As I was going through the Greetings programme this week, I couldn't help but notice a recurrent theme throughout. Today's show has more than its fair share of animal references from cats to cows, hens to swallows. In fact I was thinking of suggesting it to my Radio Scotland colleague Bryan Burnett as a theme for his show - just imagine the songs - Eye of the Tiger by Survivor or REM's Pushing an Elephant up a Stair, or even Lulu's "I'm a Tiger" - then perhaps not.

But this week I'm making a stand for classical music, after a survey revealed that a third of people in Britain have never listened to it, and a frightening proportion couldn't match a composer with their most famous piece of work. While it's easy to blame teaching methods for this gap in our musical knowledge, I certainly don't remember having the virtues of Led Zeppelin or The Beatles extolled to me in class. Music is there for the taking - it's not the preserve of a particular class or age, but I will confess that it was Greetings that helped broaden my appreciation of this genre. The great thing about the show is that we have the perfect excuse for exploring every type of music - from traditional Scottish tunes as per Jimmy Shand to more contemporary artistes like REM, via at least one classical track. This week it's the relatively modern Tchaikovsky - one of my favourite composers who channels a more romantic style. Romance or reminder - you can send your own musical dedication by getting in touch with us here at greetings@bbc.co.uk

PS After this week's hoo haa over the cat in the wheelie bin, I thought a snap of our own pet would banish such cruel thoughts and remind us of the beauty of these graceful "velvet" creatures!

The Nicolson Institute, despite its obvious failing still managed to churn out a higher standard of student than many a main-land Secondary!

Not everything needs to be placed in front of us... where's the sense of discovery in that!

B.T.W. We've done "Animals" on Get It On before but I'm sure its bound to to be repeated! Mrs Wallace????
