Ö÷²¥´óÐã

A showman and entertainer straight from the off, Newton Faulkner ignited the crowd with an infectious energy on many levels; on point funny banter coupled with a very accomplished and laidback performing style.

Together with an impressive vocal range, Newton Faulkner brought a range of multi-tasking talents to the show. His guitar strings are at times a mere sideshow to his tapping, hitting and pedalling sounds which are all peaked and tweaked with a heavy hit of bass and reverb through the PA's to elevate his sound even further.

Showcasing new material from his forthcoming album 'Write It On Your Skin' (due for release in July) alongside previous works 'Hand Built by Robots' and 'Rebuilt by Humans', this was gig-goers gig for sure. A plethora of smile led sing-a-longs and bopping of the head - resistance was futile.

Throw in some covered love into the mix too - well it wouldn't be a Newton Faulkner gig without him performing his party piece of covers. Only this time it was a superb rendition of Stevie Wonder's 'Superstition', delivered with accelerated attitude, heavy guitar strings and some folky funk to which he orchestrated a delirious crowd to sing a along too.

With full voice and song from both performer and punter; this was one hot and energised gig. If you missed him this time round worry not - your next fix of Faulkner Hipster Folk this side of the border will be at this year's Wickerman Festival in July.

So before heading up to Ö÷²¥´óÐã Pacific Quay to do my show...with the live sounds of Newton Faulkner buzzing in my head, I of course had to listen to him on record, and so I spun "Dreams Catch Me" in the All Night Long "Playing in Town Tonight" spot.
