Runners Sophie Stephenson, Rebecca Davies, Maria Smith and Andrea MacKinnon with the penultimate Festival Café blog post, and today they've included a backstage interview with Tom Thum.
Our penultimate show at Potterrow was an eclectic mix of established acts and fresh talent. First to grace our green room was David Bottomley for the tribute to Ö÷²¥´óÐã Radio 4's Desert Island Discs 70th anniversary.
Following David, hot off the train from Glasgow and looking quite the tourist, Iain Robertson arrived clad in a vintage tweed blazer and laden with luggage. But alas, he's been calling the Traverse "home" since the fringe kicked off, so he's pretty much a local. Time for a quick cuppa and a cigarette before the sound check and he's a happy boy. Rushing straight from the Pleasance stage to our stage here at Potterrrow the insanely funny twosome Neal Foster and Allison Fitzjohn from Horrible Histories had the crowd in stitches with an extract from their hit show.
Tom Thum was slightly taller than we had expected! Not to be confused with the wee guy from the fairy tale, Australian beatboxing genius Tom Thum isn't just another kid on the block making music with his mouth. He is walking juke box of sound and rhythm. Tom's vocal warm-ups, were - um - rather, extraordinary to say the least. So out of this world it was quite unimaginable that they came from a person rather than a space ship! Sophie caught up with him backstage and he gave the low-down on the beat-boxing equivalent of musical scales.
