G.I Joe - 'The Rise Of Cobra' Review

Mike Anthony | 14:48 UK time, Friday, 14 August 2009

GIJoe12.jpgTrebel T keeps bothering me while I'm adding to this blog, he wants to vent about the new G.I Joe game.... Take it away TTT...

So I was a little worried about this game. I told my mate I was reviewing this game and he kept saying "What a great job I have" I told him it's not that great when it's a pony game and guess what? It is.

The problem is games made from movies are often an afterthought and are never really intended to do anything bar help promote the movie to game players. Its so bad its making me think the movie might be rubbish as well.

The game engine reminds me of 'Devil May Cry' which was a great game about six years ago on the PS2 but in 2009 the bar has been raised and this game would have been rubbish back in 2001 anyway. Are you sensing a trend here?

Boring linear game play, funny glitches, just pull the trigger you don't even have to aim and as for the "accelerator suit mode" idiocy! A guy at the radio station has a tennis game on his blackberry and it looks better than this game on an Xbox 360! The dialogue from the cut scenes at the start is so cheesy I was cringing (no really) If it's from the movie God help us all!

Graphically it doesn't even look next gen. The weapons are stupid. Have you ever seen someone reload a crossbow quicker than a gun? No? Physically impossible? Yes. Well you can in this stinker! Apparently the story line is a follow on from the movie so if you don't see the movie this will make even less sense than a dolphin riding a bike.

Do you see what I'm saying yet? Unless you collect G.I Joe memorabilia then don't bother. I feel like this review should be longer but I no longer have the will to live. If you find this game for a fiver then still don't bother.

It's good that you aren't afraid of saying it like you see it. Too many review sites are scared of upsetting developers and won't give much below 5/10 marks for anything.

Hope the next game you review is more fun :)
