Prototyping Weeknotes #62 (3rd June 2011)
There's been a lot packed in to a short week, with some new projects that have been on the horizon for a while finally taking shape. Chris G is in early for a Future Media board presentation of one of our high-profile recent projects, which goes well. Tristan, George and Chris G then get stuck straight in to the EU FI-Content project, sorting out what work is still outstanding, which George follows immediately with a relaxing teleconference with other broadcasters.Ìý
George rushes out Western House, the home of Ö÷²¥´óÐã Radio 2, to scope out a space where R&D will be demoing recent work at a forthcoming Audio & Music day.
Joanne continues with designing the RadioTAG website pages, which Chris L is implementing. Theo is collaborating with Chris N on building a Sinatra demo app for Watch Later. Chris reports success with using to build the front-end as a .
Wednesday sees more thinking going into the EU FI-Content project, with some brainstorming about scenarios in a world of IPv6-enabled, device-to-device communication. Several heads are seen to be hurting afterwards.
Sean, Chris L and Kat (whose imminent three-week holiday is causing some well-meaning jealousy) continue work on the RadioTAG spec, and have ironed out enough detail to finalise a draft spec. Chris L in particular has his hands dirty with CSS, using the very handy to translate Joanne's designs into HTML. He also finds time to add 'anonymous tagging' to our prototype TAG server, so that accounts don't need to be created for devices to request information about a programme - handy.
On Thursday, our weekly team meeting is augmented by the new boss of Future Media HR, who seems impressed with the demos we give and happy to see a strong team working together. Later, George and Tris meet up with a rep from the project, a federated social web technology based on XMPP.
Tris tries out an impressive new dual-screen iPad app for Springwatch, developed by some colleagues of ours, clever in the way it uses a live subtitle feed mixed with domain-specific knowledge to create a live companion experience.
Friday, George is swamped with telcos and admin as usual, and the recent round of recruitment has just closed, putting plenty of work into my inbox for the forthcoming weeks.
