FROM OUR REPORTERS AT THE K CLUB, IRELAND

It's all in the mind

Iain_carter55x55.jpgTHE K CLUB - Team bonding is what it's all about and we've had an insight into what happened last night when the entire European team got together for the first time.

Aside from the motivational video, exhortations from captain Ian Woosnam, wine tasting and dinner there was a conjuring show from the team's

I've witnessed his phenomenenal powers before. He can recite the first line from a random page of a random book picked by a random stranger. Spooky.

Last night he made the European team all draw caricatures of and just by looking at the drawings he was able to tell which player had drawn which picture.

Qureshi told me: "Sergio Garcia's was the least flattering." He went on to say that it had been a fabulous and very important evening for bringing the European team together.

On a more worrying note, I heard from our colleagues at that the rules preventing spectators from bringing food and drink to the K Club are being applied to the letter.

One spectator explained he needed to bring in something to eat because he is a diabetic who has to inject insulin five times a day but security guards refused to make an exception.

There's been much comment on the outfits worn by the golfers as they arrived in Ireland. Once again it was I gather Woosie originally wanted his team to be wearing leather jackets.

Monty wasn't too impressed with his uniform for the first day of practice - pink top and black trousers with white piping.

"I've never worn pink before, nor this style of trousers and they will be worn once, I believe, and these will be sent home," he told me before dissolving into fits of laughter.

Meanwhile, here's what happened at the

A lot has been made about the two teams uniforms - and it has to be said the US team slightly edge it for me. However, I think it is dissapointing that the somewhat unique world of golf fashion continuously fails to deliver an outfit that either team could honestly feel both comfortable in, and that each member is proud to wear.

If this is true isn't it completely rediculous?

Are they trying to squease every last penny from the punters by forcing them to buy food and drinks on site or have the people running it been infected with American type torrorism paronoia?

I mean when was the last time you heard of an exploding sandwitch?!

Golf 'fashion' is taking a hammering this week. Unfortunately as people like my wife will be watching this as just about the only golf she sees it is just reinforcing her ideas!

Shame that they could not have got J Lindeburg or Puma to do the clothes. Look at Camilo Villegas and Johan Edfors to see what a golfer can look like.

I know they are another channel but anyone watching the Golf Channel will see that their man at the course, Rich Learner, is following the dubious lead of the teams! Nick Faldo in the 80's springs to mind!

Just wanted to say that as far as a lot of the ordinary joe soaps are concerned here in Ireland..The Ryder cup has turned out to be an event organised by the rich for the sole enjoyment of the rich...not many ordinary golf fans or indeed sports fans have a chance to go see the competition and all the overhype saying its a great event to be enjoyed by the people of Ireland is absolute rubbish..The paranoid security..intimidation of locals living in straffan itself and the politicans who crawl out of the woodwork for a free prawn sandwich and a glass of champagne have all tarnished this event..maybe the bad weather that has been forecast is their just reward..On a less vitriolic note.." come on europe"...
