"My new hip should help my handicap"

LONDON - George Bush senior was in jovial form as he bantered with 主播大秀 Five Live Sport's John Inverdale at the K Club.

The former US President showed off his Ryder Cup and PGA badges, admitting: "I can鈥檛 play golf worth a damn but I've got all these pins going on!"

Bush, 82, used to play off 12 but admitted these days his creaking joints had taken his handicap into "the stratosphere".

Bush, seen here at the K Club with Amy Mickelson (L) and Amy DiMarco, partners of US team members Phil and Chris, said:

"I'm way up in the 20s now, but I'm waiting to get some new body parts - a second hip is arriving soon and that should be worth about 10 strokes."

Listen to the interview with George Bush Snr

Bush confessed to playing from the "forward" tees, adding: "I only take part if the guys I'm playing with follow the 'no laughing' rule when I chip."

He told Inverdale his son, who he interestingly refers to as "The President", rarely gets a chance to play because to be seen enjoying a round of golf when you're in the middle of a war on terror does not sit easily with the US media types.

"The press give him hell," Bush senior said. No change there, then.

Round these parts, being seen to enjoy a war on terror when you're in the middle of a round of golf is considered worse form.
Of course, none of us are self-styled Leaders of the Free World.

BTW, was I imagining it, or has Steve Williams replaced the US team standard star-studded carry strap with one bearing the name of Tiger's sponsor Buick? Hmmm...?

Fairly easily sorted then - tell Junior to stop starting wars and concentrate on the golf.
Make par, not war!

I wonder if 'The president' considers golf clubs to be WMD's?

George H. W. Bush is still president, Mark A? I thought people were allowed to enjoy their retirements but I guess that doesn't apply to U.S. Presidents. Oh well, live and learn.

Its not just the press who giving George W hell. He only needs to be Mr Popular at two critical voting times and then he has free reign.

Erik S, where in my comment above do I refer to George HW Bush?
I was merely making a play on words regarding the comment he made about his son and his golfing.
Someone seems a little sensitive. Tired of the (so-called) liberal media and their nasty jibes about the oh-so misunderstood Republicans? Or smarting at the 5-3 scoreline?
