The media has a incredibly detached attitude these days that implies it can safely operate outside of the rules applicable to everyone else.
Is it clear in its own mind whether it is seeking to inform its listeners/viewers or to increase its ratings? Did it even contemplate that going into discussion behind enemy lines with the people in mortal combat with our young men would be treasonous?
Did it ask our armed forces for their views about the proposed discussions, and what questions they would like to ask the enemy?
I suspect that would have been more dangerous than going behind enemy lines!
First, don't label anyone an enemy as you are jounalists and not soldiers or policiticans. Secondly, don't question reporting the other sides point of view as dialogue will somehow reduce the violence.
Lastly, don't make it a big deal to go behind enemy lines as most so-called enemies don't hate you per se but hate the government you pay taxes. Believe it or not there are many educated 'enemies' and they can distinguish you from their 'oppressors' or 'invaders'. Trust that. Anything less is weak reporting. Continue the insertion reports and take a stand against obvious incidents instead of being a robot journalist.
