Lot of excitement at the campaign party for , the Democratic governor of Pennsylvania, who has apparently won re-election.
Predictions that the ultra-conservative senator would pull out a come-back victory have come to naught as his Democratic challenger, , seems to have ridden his party's wave.
Democratic supporters here are effusive and optimistic, even though at this hour most of the returns for elections results are still coming in.
But they believe Bob Casey won because his relatively moderate stance on issues which mattered most to them - in contrast to Mr Santorum, whom they perceived as being too far to the right and too close to George W Bush.

Santorum lost because the people of Pennsylvania will not vote for someone who doesn't care enough to actually live in the state. Santorum was a 'carpetbagger', plain and simple

Not too mention Santorum's ridiculous Lord of the Rings metaphor for the war in Iraq fueling the fire of absurdity that engulfed the vast majority of this elections campaigns.

Santorum lost because he is an arrogant fool and his personal views have no place in politics. The majority of those of us who live in Pennsylvania don't want him to intrude into our daily lives. That's why he lost.

Santorum is one of those far-right wackos - that's why he lost. The tide that swept him in has reversed and swept him out. Casey has his faults - but at least he is one of us, a true Pennsylvanian from Scranton, a good old-school Irishman from coal country.

i have read many news stories from the many talking heads about why santorum lost. he didn't just lose, he got trounced. there were many important reasons he lost: the economy, iraq, corruption, immigration, forcing his religious convictions onto others, his residing in virginia, stand in the forefront. he was on the wrong side of all of these. he will make a great lobbist and a terrible politican in the future.

A case of GOP Cooties. Santorum lost because his outrageously insular views are an embarrassment to PA and no one wanted the state to be identified with Bush's primary poster boy for feckless stupidity and hubris. There is a God!

You obviously don't know much about Pennsylvania. Name recognition influenced win, but it makes no GD sense to run as a rightwing-extremist in a moderate state. It makes no political sense.
