Politics as usual
It's back to politics as we know it now, after the heady crazed participation-fest of . In those states the presidential madness took over and everyone enjoyed it, or pretended to. Even a woman taking the money at a toll booth had the time and interest to discuss the state of the race.
Here in depressed , it is much more difficult to find the campaign amid the grim reality of daily life. Even the snow seems less, well, cheerful; it's the powdery sort that goes up your trousers but isn't thick enough to have any fun with.

Yes, there are "worse things than losing",,compromising your believes, ideals and integrity for the sake of winning comes to mind.
Yeah, there are worse things than losing alright, like being tortured. McCain deserves some credit for taking on Bush on this subject, although Bush still found a way to do an "end around" on this ghastly issue, so America hasn't quit torturing just yet. It would be interesting to see just how far McCain would go in halting this despicable practice, i.e. not just banning US government personnel from engaging in torture but ceasing 'extraordinary rendition' and ending foreign aid to countries like Israel, Egypt and Columbia that are known to practice torture. All the candidates in fact, should be a little more forthcoming on this urgent topic. America is definitely on the 'slippery slope' here.
