Exterminate!
The Ö÷²¥´óÐã Director General Mark Thompson gave an interview to the Guardian last week suggesting that the Ö÷²¥´óÐã's coverage of Westminister, Stormont, Cardiff and Edinburgh could be reinvented in the same way as our drama has been overhauled with Doctor Who and Life on Mars. I briefly pondered blogging about this but almost any line I thought of threatened to do to my Ö÷²¥´óÐã career what the Daleks habitually do to anyone or anything which crosses their path.
But I can now soberly note that the Sunday Life newspaper has picked up on the interview and reproduced a striking image of yours truly as Dr Who stood beside the Tardis in the company of la Purdy as my assistant, Rose.
They have not yet assigned suitable Dr Who/science fiction characters to Gareth Gordon or Jim Fitzpatrick both of whom are rattling their keyboards next to me. Any suggestions?
P.S. Gareth points out that our Stormont office is as small as an old police box, but that is where the similarity with the Tardis ends.

I am more interested in who would fit which character in the upcoming 'Life On Mars' sequel.. Isn't it called 'Ashes to Ashes' or something similar ?
I could just see Fitzpatrick in an Audi Quattro, to be honest...

Can't help you there. I don't watch Doctor Who. I think it's crap.
And if they make Stormont Live into a sci-fi show I won't start watching it either.
But then again, you could find out which planet Belfast people belong on.
I saw this story yesterday in the Sunday Life. What more can you do to jazz up your coverage of Stormont. All the leading lights are there from the reg master to David Ford. Nobody really cares about Scotland or Wales and in Westminster they have completely lost it. Westminster live is like typical day time TV. Rubbish. Jeremy Kyle would be needed for Gordon Brown and Co. He should put Peter Hain on the lie detector machine. The only thing is he may break it.
Sometimes it seems that we are caught in a time warp. Perhaps you could transport some of our MLAs forward in time to see what might happen if they actually get their way . . . and maybe just leave them there!

YOU DOCTOR WHO BUT LA PURDY IS SOMETHING ELSE
I can see you as a Dr Who, a sort of composite of Patrick Troughton and Sylvester McCoy who played the eponymous hero in the early years of the series.
La Purdy is far too exotic to be a plain Rose. Martina is more of a modern day Barbarella (played in the 1968 film by Jane Fonda), the perfect woman who is comfortable with both her career and her feminity. Like Barbarella, Martina causes some males to behave foolishly; how else to explain Junior Paisley’s desire to be interviewed at every opportunity by Martina, even though it means dropping himself further into the mire.
Gareth and Jim bring back memories of the 1930s science fiction comic strip heroes Flash Gordon and his close companion, Dale Arden.
As an afterthought, in light of recent complaints about the poor quality of male underwear I would nominate Jeremy Paxman to play Superman.
