I'm afraid I refuse to even look at the Artemis Fowl books after Eoin's utter, utter insult to the Hitch-Hiker's Guide series - honestly, the worst scifi I've ever read even apart from the fact that it ruined a really good original series.

This is excellent. Look forward to more in a similar ilk.

Good lord, I think Eoin could do with coming up with a "Plan" for his next video interview! Apart from seeming like it was extemporised, I didn't really feel that these were either "Golden Truths" or necessarily the best ones for writing within his genre.

I'm genuinely pleased that this video came about, just a bit of a shame it wasn't better scripted. Perhaps it would be more suited to CÖ÷²¥´óÐã/Newsround? That isn't to denigrate the quality of the man's writing, just an observation, really. Clearly Eoin is a huge success and rightly so, perhaps it all needs a bit more polish.

Eoin may think he's written a fantasy series for boys, but as a young woman of twenty when the first, shiny, gold Artemis Fowl novel was released, it didn't seem that way to me. It still doesn't, in fact, and I'm looking forward to the next one. In a few years time my niece will be old enough for me to start reading them to her. True, she's more likely to want to be Holly than Artemis, but that's no reason she can't enjoy them.
Custador @ 1, it may surprise you to know that not everyone liked Douglas Adams' original trilogy in five parts. Give me one of Iain M Banks' Culture novels any day of the week. Chances are if you're old enough to read Hitch-Hiker's Guide then you're not in the target demographic for Artemis Fowl anyway ;-)

Custador, wasn't the 'insult' primarily the responsibility of Adams' literary estate, including his widow, who decided that a sixth book was a good idea in the first place?

And let's not forget that Douglas Adams delivered plenty of insults to the series himself, not least the last couple of books he wrote for it...

I thought if 'And another thing' were written by Adams himself it would be well up to standard, I think the only thing wrong with it is that we know he didn't and that someone else did. Because of it I read an Artemis Fowl and won't rule out reading another - I like to chop and change.

Eoin Colfer gave me a huge tip here - PLAN your writing!! Can't remember how many times I've had a brilliant idea, begun writing, and got stuck. Thank you Eoin!

I liked all of the original five, but I agree that the sixth never have been allowed. Considering the finality with which Adams ended the fifth book, I think it was pretty clear that he didn't want a sixth.
