Just imagine the soundtrack to a Wild West movie filmed in Manchester city centre and you won't be far off the mark. Just brilliant.

We also heard a new tune from the singular North-East outfit . These former show guests make a terrific alt-rock noise and will be worthy of your close attention in the year ahead. Lead singer David Littlefair's voice teeters on the brink between genius and insanity on Escape Velocity, a song that offers great hooks, noodling solos and the wild eccentric energy that is the band's trademark.
