TRACKLISTING. SUNDAY 04/12/2011
If you're a musician, tonight's show is required listening. Not just as your weekly guide to the best new streaming tunes, but for the wisdom dispensed by music publisher Simon Pursehouse from . Simon (above) talked Tom through his top tips for demo submissions, and on how to optimise a band's Facebook page. His suggestions may not guarantee you a headline festival slot - only your music can do that - but we reckon they'll significantly improved the chances of that music getting heard.
We also heard two exclusive live tracks from friend of the show , recorded at the launch gig for his stunning second album on Ninja Tune. Tom's long been a fan of Jono's voice, songwriting and guitar playing - and on this record There Is, it now turns out, he also played double bass. Is there no end to the man's talents?
The ever-reliable Bethan Elfyn once again came up with the goods this week, delivering a "wild slice of Welsh pop" from the strangely named Cardiff trio . She does so much more these days than her weekly Ö÷²¥´óÐã Wales shows every Saturday that the easiest way to keep tabs on her musical activities is via Twitter .
Elsewhere in our emporium of cybersourced sounds, we had boy/girl duo with The Fascinator - a sprawling six minute epic of impassioned Northern vocals building to a dramatic climax. Just imagine the soundtrack to a Wild West movie filmed in Manchester city centre and you won't be far off the mark. Just brilliant.
We also heard a new tune from the singular North-East outfit . These former show guests make a terrific alt-rock noise and will be worthy of your close attention in the year ahead. Lead singer David Littlefair's voice teeters on the brink between genius and insanity on Escape Velocity, a song that offers great hooks, noodling solos and the wild eccentric energy that is the band's trademark.
But all this barely scratches the surface of the quality offerings we bring you this and every week. We listend to every single recommendation that comes in through our web page - and if we like it, we play it - simple as that. Click on any of the links in our tracklisting below to hear the songs themselves - there isn't a duff one among them - if there was, we wouldn't play it.
And, musicians, remember - when your music has won you that headline slot on the Pyramid stage at Glasto - don't forget to thank for helping you get it heard in the first place.
