INTRODUCING MIXTAPE. MONDAY 30/04/2012

Tom Robinson Tom Robinson | 02:00 UK time, Monday, 30 April 2012

DRY THE RIVER band

In the small hours of a Monday morning from 2-3am you can hear a selection of my favourite new tunes compiled into an hour-long mixtape of nonstop music. All the audio is sourced from the 主播大秀 Introducing Uploader - some of it recommended by 主播大秀 colleagues across the Introducing network, and some discovered via Twitter and my own Fresh On The Net blog.

From 3am each Monday the latest mixtape is then available free via the 6 Music Downloads Page - where you'll also find archived episodes from the previous 4 weeks. All the tracklists and timings are published here together with brief information about each artist and a link to their website.

Below are are the listings for Monday, April 30th. The mixtape kicks off with one of the hottest indie tracks of the moment by a London band who these days hardly need any introduction. But then both 主播大秀 Introducing and 6 Music have supported DRY THE RIVER (above) since their earliest days - and we see no reason to stop now that they're finally getting the acclaim they deserve... download and enjoy!

DRY THE RIVER - New Ceremony (Radio Edit) - Starts 0:13

Current single - taken from their album SHALLOW BED - and released on limited edition gatefold 7鈥 vinyl with b-side Deadheads to coincide with record Store Day. The brainchild of songwriter Peter Liddle, DRY THE RIVER were electrifying live when I saw them at In The City 2010. They play a major headline tour in October taking in Cambridge, Portsmouth, Gloucester, Wrexham, Liverpool, Preston, York, Sheffield, Stoke, Birmingham and Bath. It culminates with a London show at Shepherd鈥檚 Bush Empire on November 1st.

HALFLIGHT - Echo - Starts 4:09

"We like melody, spooky noises and the odd trumpet" say Chris Cookson, Joe Rickerby and drummer Ben Davies. Possibly Mike & David also say this: their Facebook is a bit hazy about who's in the band. Echo is their new single from them - due to be officially launched in London a week on Tuesday (May 8th) at Notting Hill Arts Club. "We have lots more London gigs coming up this Summer - including a residency at Ronnie Scotts through June, July and August plus shows at The Half Moon, Barfly and The Social" they tell us.

THE WORDS - Head Over Heels - Starts 7:53

Manchester's THE WORDS came recommended by a listener as playing absolutely storming live shows. This track will be the final single from their debut album TRUTH & FAITH and released on June 25th. They have a close relationship with their fan community who've been helping design the artwork and work out a marketing strategy for the new record. Meanwhile they'll be touring Austria at the start of May and are actively looking for festival dates in the UK and Europe for the rest of the year.

SOPHIE JAMIESON - The Harbour Wall - Starts 10:23

Recommended to us by Ruth Barnes from The Other Woman Music, SOPHIE JAMIESON is a singer-songwriter who's just about to graduate in art history at Cambridge but plans, she tells us "to be running around London with a guitar from July into the foreseeable future!" Ruth herself was tipped off about Sophie's music by the guitarist and songwriter who hosts the acoustic nights in Watford. She plays Cambridge shows later today (Mon 30 April) and then a week on Wednesday (May 9th). See her Facebook for more details

GRINNY GRANDAD - The Good Girl - Starts 13:19

I first played GRINNY GRANDAD back in 2007 after which the band became a flavour of the month in 主播大秀 Introducing circles, with support from Annie Mac and Huw Stephens. Based in York, GG masterminded by beatmeister and remixer Chris Morton - who has written music for, among other things, Grang Theft Auto. Having not heard anything from them for a couple of years, Jenny Eelles from 主播大秀 Introducing In York has just sent me this 2011 single - cowritten with Kymberley Kennedy - via the Introducing Uploader. There's no list of upcoming gigs on their Tumblr or Facebook, but it seem they'll be playing the Beatherder Festival this summer.

MODEL STAGGS - Magnetic People - Starts 16:34

Cambridge duo MODEL STAGGS consist of Ash Allerton plays drums and electronic pads and Tom Miller on electric guitar. This is the opening track on their debut EP which is "self-released, self-recorded, self-produced... in fact," they say, "self-everything." You can hear the astoundingly big and sophisticated noise they make live on a recent recording from a recent hometown gig at St Paul's Church, which they've just posted to their Tumblr.

KILLING FIELDS OF ONTARIO - Cloud - Starts 21:36

KILLING FIELDS OF ONTARIO were my studio guests for Fresh On The Net a year ago - and this new single comes out a week today on Monday May 7th with the B side God Or Country. First formed in Leeds in 2008, Tom Brewster, Stuart Kempster, Dave Loffman, Tom Loffman and James Brooks are now spread all over the country, but will be coming together to play Birmingham on Sunday (May 6th), Leeds (May 7th), London (May 16th) and Sheffield (May 25th). More details on their website.

OLD COLOURS - Morning After - Starts 25:04

A recommendation from Marie Lennon at 主播大秀 Introducing in Witshire, OLD COLOURS consists of Zoe Mead and Dan June. It's unusual for a band this good to spring fully-formed from nowhere and it turns out that they emerged from the ashes of the excellent ANCHOR AND THE WOLF. Morning After is one of two tracks available for free download from their Bandcamp and they play London's Proud Galleries next Monday (May 7th) and The Victoria in their native Swindon on May 19th.

ANGUISH SANDWICH - Leave My Brain Alone - 28:01

ANGUISH SANDWICH are another RUTH BARNES favourite, likewise endorsed by Tash House from the 主播大秀 Introducing show in their native Northampton. This is another blink-and-you'll-miss-it lo-fi classic from the warped collective imaginations of Chris East, John Oldham and Cath Maskell. It's the opening song on their four-track BERMUDA TRIANGLE EP - released on 7" vinyl by Oddbox Records a fortnight today (May 14th). In a parallel universe - under the Nom De MySpace of Winston Echo - Chris East also wrote and recorded the antifolk Introducing classic, .

THE DAYDREAM CLUB - Neon Love Song (Part II) -
Starts 29:35

Apologies - on this week's mixtape I accidentally featured the old version of Neon Love Song - the new, upgraded 2012 version can be heard by clicking here.聽 THE DAYDREAM CLUB are Adam Pickering and Paula Walker who first met while studying at LIPA in Liverpool before settling in Leicestershire and selfreleasing their debut album 鈥極VERGROWN鈥 in November 2010, with huge support from Dean Jackson's legendary East Midlands Introducing show . Earlier this year the video for their single On The Move Part II took 50 balloons, 30 party poppers, 2 days of thinking backwards - and just one take - to make. This latest single is part of Burberry's Summer 2012 Eyewear ad campaign (other designer glasses are available) and they'll be playing this year's with a full band lineup.

MAVEN FICTION - I Love This Place - Starts 33:23

I Love This Place says MAVEN FICTION - aka Scarborough songwriter Aaron Ward - and I love his music. That's why this track features on a new free 20-track compilation album curated by Snippet and myself for Rash Records. 主播大秀 Volume Three will be made available at no cost whatever from May 14th - the label and artists share our belief that this music deserves a wider audience.
However it's tough out there, and if you'd like to help Aaron finance his next album you can buy a download from him and/or make a donation via the MAVEN FICTION Bandcamp page.

PICTUREBOX - Ruth Bakes A Cake - Starts 36:32

PICTUREBOX are based songwriter Robert Halcrow - who tells us he loves the proposition that songs can be about "anything at all". Charmingly, the band put on TEA & BISCUITS nights at The Annexe in the fine cathedral city of Canterbury - featuring music, tea, cake and colouring-in. Since their second album WILDLIFE came out in May 2011, this gratifyingly prolific outfit have released a further four digital EPs and singles, all of which can be heard on their Bandcamp page.

SUSIE WILKINS - No Answer - Starts 38:30

SUSIE WILKINS started writing at 14 while living in Hong Kong and made her live debut at an open mic night there at age 16. Since returning to live in London she's toured Europe supporting Joe Jackson and last November released her selfproduced debut album ANYWHERE BUT HERE. It features the top-drawer U.S. rhythm section of Sheryl Crow's drummer and Suzanne Vega's bassplayer, and was mixed by Grammy Award winning engineer Ryan Freeland.

LION - Lion Share - Starts 42:37

Lion Share was recommended to us on my Saturday Night Live show last week by Huw Stephens. Based in Tunbridge Wells, songwriter Oliver Patterson originally used the alias LION when uploading this track (the only song he'd written at the time) to 主播大秀 Introducing In Kent. Jacob Rickard duly played it within a week and urged Ollie to write 11 more songs at home and form an actual band. LION is now a 6 piece whose selftitled album came out in February - and they open for KYLA LA GRANGE at Tunbridge Wells Forum on May 24th.

GEORGE MONTAGUE - White Cavalry - Starts 46:02

I got a cheeky tweet from GEORGE MONTAGUE asking me to look at the funny, upbeat and he'd made for this song. Not that he needed to: over 400,000 people (yes, four hundred THOUSAND people) have found and watched it already on sheer word of mouth. His debut album HAVE YOU MET GEORGE is out now and he'll be playing whole thing live in Cirencester on May 25th at an extravaganza billed as George Montague's Brewery Blues Special. But hurry if you plan to buy a ticket, because there are hardly any left.

RUSTS - Just Remember You Are Not Alone - Starts 49:42

"After the umpteenth bailiff letter landed on Scott Russell's doormat, he knew it was time to sell up and move on. The last and hardest belonging to let go was his beloved 1960s Fender amp, which he very reluctantly sold to clear his council tax arrears and gas bill. While rattling around the house on his own, the sense of loss and heartache inspired him to write and record an album under the new moniker RUSTS." That, my friends, is what you get when your band biog is written by poet rather than a PR company. You can buy Scott's excellent album BLENCATHRA from his Bandcamp or - a label he shares with the SUN ELECTRIC BAND.

EMPTY POOLS - Vanderbilt Cup - Starts 54:06

Hailing from Bristol, EMPTY POOLS formed last Summer 2011 their mission was, it says here, to "combine elements of noise rock with teen dream melodies, late 鈥70s CBGB鈥檚 angularity and the jazzy world-pop sophistication of the Thrill Jockey set." Vanderbilt Cup is a free download from their Bandcamp and they play a Mayday show in their hometown at Start The Bus this Tuesday (May 1st). A debut album is expected later this year.

INTRODUCING MIXTAPE. MONDAY 23/04/2012

Tom Robinson Tom Robinson | 02:00 UK time, Monday, 23 April 2012

Every Monday from 2am we bring you a 60 minute mixtape of new tunes uploaded to the 主播大秀 Introducing Uploader - handpicked by myself. You can download the whole hoursworth of music free at 3am via the 6 Music Downloads Page - where you'll also find archived mixtapes from the previous 4 weeks.

We aim to pack in maximum musical enjoyment with minimum interruption, so instead of announcing individual song titles, we publish the tracklisting here at the start of each show - with brief information about each artist and a direct link to their website.

Here are the listings for our third episode, broadcast at 2am Monday, April 23rd 2012 on 主播大秀 Radio 6 Music and downloadable an hour later here. One listener has suggested we should add the time at which each track starts, to make it easier to find individual songs on your mp3 player. Let me know in a comment at the bottom of this post if you would find this helpful.

In the meantime - download and enjoy!

BLACK HATS - Kick In The Doors - 3:01

(See photo above) They've been memorably described as "Oxford's very finest yob savants - all arty edginess and hooligan anthems." Their big news is that they're playing this year's Truck Festival on Saturday 21st July 鈥 main stage at 2.30pm. Kick In The Doors comes from their new mini album, AUSTERITY FOR THE HOI POLLOI, due out in May. Band interests: Running, jumping, shouting, climbing trees

SPRING OFFENSIVE - Worry Fill My Heart - 4:08

There's an extraordinary fullscreen video for this song Worry Fill My Heart on their website though no hint that it鈥檚 their current single. It was recommended to us via the 主播大秀 Introducing Uploader by Dave Gilyeat at 主播大秀 Introducing In Oxford, though Spring Offensive have been longstanding favourites on my Fresh On The Net show in recent years. The're playing Liverpool Sound City on Friday May 18th, opening for fellow Oxfordians Jonquil (fronted by Hugo Manuel of Chad Valley fame)

SPARROW - Beautiful - 3:31

Sparrow are four friends from Brighton and Cambridge who release their 2nd album HOWEVER DID THE WOLF GET IN on May 20th. They were first introduced to me by fellow Brighton artist Zoe Konez, and it was a thrill to see them take the 主播大秀 Introducing stage at Glastonbury by storm last year. The new album is preceded by this song Beautiful as free download single on May 6th, when they also play a London launch gig at Proud Galleries in Camden.

POPE - The Drag of Sloth - 3:45

"After years of hiding in rancid sleeping quarters, I'm emerging to face the world and bring it POPE ON A ROPE" says SimonSomatic. "I'm 30 based in London a producer of many years standing. My past work was noisy, abrasive, and Big Black, Mr Bungle, Wire, PUNK ROCK. In contrast, Pope On A Rope sounds crisp and clear." The album POPE ON A ROPE is released on May 7th and followed by a solo acoustic slot at the Tower Tavern near Warren St, London on Saturday May 12th.

BARON VON ALIAS & MISTABREEZE - Impact [ft. ELIZA LAWSON] - 3:18

The good Baron and his chum Mistabreeze are longstanding 主播大秀 Introducing Favourites, and played our stage at Radio 1's Big Weekend in Carlisle last year. I can warmly recommend their lewd Geordie rap classic Get Wild Gan Mental and hopefully this much more polished followup, - featuring guest vocals by the excellent Tyneside artist Eliza Lawson - will ease their progress to a more mainstream place on the airwaves. It comes from the EP Brace For The Impact, available from their Bandcamp

GOLD ROAD - Planes - 3:48

"Say hello to Gold Road" they say "A freshly hatched springling ready to embark on a musical adventure of feelgood pop. Inspired by dancing around the room to your favourite Motown song. Watch this space for live dates soon and a Launch Party for the Debut EP Planes. Official release date TBA." They/she don't tell us anything else at all, but there will be a debut London show opening for the marvellous Binko Swink at The Wilmington Arms on May 31st.

ROBINSON - You'll Never Be Her - 3:51

The artist Andy Robinson (known simply by his surname) gave me two of his albums at the 主播大秀 Introducing Masterclass earlier this year. Even allowing for my natural prejudice in favour of almost anything called Robinson, the clarity and directness of Andy's writing, singing, production and performance made these two exceptional records. This single is the last track on his second album Beneath The Ballroom and you can hear both records in full embedded from his Soundcloud at robinsonsmusic.com

NIGHT OF TREASON - The Ballad of the Teddy Boy from Ladbroke Grove - 4:16

The Ballad of the Teddy Boy from Ladbroke Grove comes from south coast punk rockers Night Of Treason - who release their debut album, GENTLEMEN & HOOLIGANS on April 30th. They're well connected, having been joined onstage at various gigs by the likes of Mick Jones, Billy Bragg and Mike Peters, while the album istelf was produced by Smiley from Joe Strummer's Mescaleros. They Play Talking Heads in Southampton on May 11th

HOMEWORK - Thoughts - 3:32

Edinburgh combo 主播大秀work tersely describe themselves as "Purveyors of experimental electronica, dance and pop. Lovers of synths and guitars. Currently recording an album."
This single was released at the beginning of April by way of a taster from said album and they play a hometown show at Electric Circus with Cashier No.9 on May 2nd.

THE JUNIPERS - Song to Selkie - 2:45

A track from the newly-released 2nd album PAINT THE GROUND by Leicester鈥檚 The Junipers - a five piece outfit formed in 2000. Seven years into their career they had recorded and given away three demo albums & built their own studio, eventually signing to San Remo Records, an indie label formed by ex-Felt guitarist Marco Thomas. Radio supporters include Cerys Matthews and Marc Riley at 6 Music and they even have their own Wikipedia page.

WOODERSON - Mint Condition - 4:35

Wooderson is, in the simplest terms, four good friends who have a stupidly good time making a racket with each other and subsequently inflicting said racket on members of the general public.
"We play discordant post-punk/indie rock to nod your head to. Sometimes it's loud, sometimes it's quiet, sometimes its tight, sometimes its loose, sometimes its controlled, sometimes its chaotic. But it's always played with passion." Founded in late 2007 in Sheffield, their debut album LET THE MAN SPEAK is set for release in the summer.

LUX LISBON - Your Heart Is A Weapon The Size Of Your Fist - 3:15

"We are a English band, and this is the title track of our self-financed debut album YOUR HEART IS A WEAPON THE SIZE OF YOUR FIST - and comes out as a single on May 26th. You may have heard our recent single 'Bullingdon Club' on 主播大秀 Radio 6 Music, 主播大秀 Wales or 主播大秀 Newcastle - or seen us at Camden Crawl or Dot To Dot Festival. We're booked for a few festivals this year that we can't name just yet and one that we can, which begins with a B.

O'MESSY LIFE - Little Vehicles - 3:42

O鈥橫essy Life are a band from Newcastle - formed in 2008 after one of us had a nervous breakdown. In the intervening years we ballooned from guitar, keyboard, drums and bass to include piano, organ, trumpet, saxophone, violin and slide guitar. We threw stuff around like a toddler playing in a muddy back garden. To most, it was repulsive and bratty - but the people close to us found it endearing. Now we鈥檝e slimmed down and beefed out, like Sly Stallone getting in shape for a new action movie. We also play occasionally as backing band to Withered Hand.

ROBIN ADAMS - Sun Behind The Storm - 3:37

Robin is a former member of the excellent but luckless Sleepmode. Since their demise he's released three solo albums DOWN TO REVERIE (2009) BE GONE (2011) and TRAIN CRASH CHOIR (2011). Together with Catapult this is one half of his latest single available from and released on Eye Dog Eye records. The label is run by Robin's brother Chris, who also records & performs under his own sardonic alter ego Piet Haag.

THE 53s - Lights - 2:42

"We used to be snide but we're proper decent now" say Liverpool's The 53s - a four-piece guitar band doing their best, they tell us, "to make people dance." Alas you won't find a discography, a biography - or any factual information whatsoever - on their Facebook apart from the fact that they're playing a hometown show opening for Futures at the O2 Academy on May 8th.

BLUE LIP FEEL - Material Bones - 3:10

Material Bones by BLUE LIP FEEL comes from their 2nd EP Glitterbox which was released in March. Its predecessor SHALLOW GETAWAY, released last year, resulted in support slots for Tribes, Kassidy and Various Cruelties. Again, actual facts are in short supply online but at least I can tell you they "see themselves as the antidote to the safe and mundane music that litters our music scene today. They feel they're ready to offer you a legitimate alternative - are you ready?"
They headline Cremfest in their native SHEFFIELD this coming Sunday May 1st.

A.FAR ONE - Trial And Error - 6:46

"I began composing 10 years ago" says Stefano Ruggieri. "My past is marked by classical music studies with a love for rock鈥檔'roll. I used to go to the conservatory with Pearl Jam on the headphones and, a few seconds later, try to climb to an impervious prelude of Rachmaninov. My most important project is afarOne. It鈥檚 about recording and mixing traditional instruments with computer music compositions. My first album LUCEN will be soon released worldwide by the German label Karlrecords."

Tom Robinson Tom Robinson | 02:00 UK time, Monday, 16 April 2012

Channel Cairo
Every Monday from 2am we bring you a 60 minute mixtape of new tunes uploaded to the 主播大秀 Introducing Uploader - handpicked by myself - which you can then download for free at 3am via the 6 Music Downloads Page.

We aim to pack in maximum musical enjoyment with minimum interruption, so instead of announcing individual song titles, we publish the tracklisting here at the start of each show - with brief information about each artist and a direct link to their website.

Here are the listings for our second episode, broadcast at 2am Monday, April 16th 2012 on 主播大秀 Radio 6 Music and downloadable an hour later here.

CHANNEL CAIRO - A Year

London five-piece CHANNEL CAIRO (pictured above) sport a poetic list of influences on their Facebook: "the golden age of travel, touring as a child, animals like teddy bears, propulsive engines, the coming of age, a dog called Huntely, an airline ran by animals." This fine forthcoming single will be launched at the Camden Barfly on June 26th and you can see the newly-shot video on their website. It was an overwhelming favourite at my Fresh On The Net blog recently.

MELISSA JAMES - I Need You

MELISSA is a superb soul singer in classic mould, but also one of the many artists who find writing about themselves as enjoyable as having teeth pulled. She manages to squeeze out 16 words on her Soundcloud: "Singer-songwriter working on my debut album, Day Dawns, which is due for release this summer." She's based in London and plays the Richmond Music Festival in nearby Surrey on 26th April.

SOLKO - December

East Anglian 6 piece SOLKO - who describe themselves as "all about vibes and energy" - firrst formed in 2009. Last September they released their debut EP 'Fix This Fire' and they attended the 主播大秀 Introducing Musicians Masterclass in January. Norfolk listener SAM SHEEPSWEEP told us last year that their "live energy and showmanship on stage is incredible... they're the best band on the Norwich Scene at the moment."

LUCA LUCIANO - Jazz Impromptu

Born in Naples, a graduate from from the Conservatoire of Salerno, an academic at Leeds University for many years and now based in London, composer LUCA LUCIANO is one of Europe's leading exponents of jazz clarinet and a passionate evangelist for the instrument. This piece comes from his recently released album 鈥淧artenope鈥 which includes a free digital score when bought from his website.

BETHANY WEIMERS - Silver Moon

London born, Oxford raised alt-folk artist BETHANY finally releases her long anticipated debut album 'Harpsichord Row' on May 7th 2012 on 1784 Records. She recorded it at home in splendid isolation in the course of last year armed with a single microphone, ProTools, and a vocal booth fashioned from sleeping bags and an upturned couch. We already played her song "Desire" from said album last October.

ROB MARR - Fat And Happy

From Londoner ROB MARR鈥檚 second album ANATOMY which was recorded with Sly and the Family Stone drummer ANDY NEWMARK and produced by keyboardist and fellow songwriter ROBBIE MOORE. Influences include classical piano, hip hop, blues and soul, hymns, Britpop and the writers Raymond Carver and Annie Proulx. This is the second song of Rob's to have been acclaimed as a Fresh Fave by readers of my music blog.

THE SUN ELECTRIC BAND - In The Clouds

From the newly released debut EP "Want to Feel Like" launched by THE SUN ELECTRIC BAND this Saturday along with their own TAKE CARE label to coincide with the 100th anniversary of the Titanic sinking... They have a big gig on Wednesday 18th April supporting HERMAN DUNE at The Ruby Lounge in their native Manchester. Hear more jangly psychedelic guitar-fuelled delights on their Bandcamp page.

THE MISERABLE RICH - True Love

A song recorded by THE MISERABLE RICH at Blickling Hall, Britain's most haunted stately home. Their album MISS YOU IN THE DAYS is full of ghost stories, death and sex. "Though" adds frontman James "it's actually fairly perky all the same." This song relates to a ghost his dad once encountered at a chateau in wartime France - and whose story he heard about the following morning. It was a good story - but it's an even better song.

REBEKAH DELGADO - Little Boy Blue

REBEKAH is a solo musician from London, who embarked on a solo career in 2010 when her previous band THE LAST ARMY broke up. Live, she's often accompanied by musical saw, violin, harmonium, cello and drums. Her album DON'T SLEEP is due for release April/May 2012. We accidentally listed this last week, but it really is in this week's Mixtape - sorry, Rebekah!!

LITTLE X鈥橲 FOR EYES - Kind Hearts (SOUNDS OF SYSTEM BREAKDOWN Remix)

We don鈥檛 often champion remixes on 主播大秀 Introducing - preferring to promote original artists. But since both the original artist and the remixers in question were happy for us to include this track in our mixtape, we couldn't resist its gorgeous atmospheric groove. Check out the web links for both LITTLE X鈥橲 FOR EYES and SOUNDS OF SYSTEM BREAKDOWN, they鈥檙e both great.

THANK PABLO - By The Sea

South London 4 piece THANK PABLO consist of Ryan, Tom, Ted, Rich - who make, they tell us "sun-kissed quintessentially English pop songs that have been dragged through the backstreets of Africa, Spain, France and Jamaica" Their aim is to make the public forget both the pressures of a devastating global economic crisis and the increased cost of alcohol, with music that makes people smile. Job done!

RUSSI HARLEY - The Beach

RUSSI HARLEY is frontman with the Bath-based live electronic act ELECTRIC CONTRADICTION. He also writes and produces tunes under his own name using analog synthesisers, and loves working with other musicians. He'd particularly like to hear from any singers interested in collaborations, via his Soundcloud page.

THE SAVAGE NOMADS - Tension in the Middle

Tension in the Middle is already a big favourite with Gideon Coe here on 6 Music. It's the title track of a new EP by South London 5 piece THE SAVAGE NOMADS which comes on May 27th. They have a monthly hometown residency at Notting Hill Arts Club's Death 2 Disco night - where their next show on May 2nd also features the mighty BEAR CAVALRY. Highly recommended.

JOSHUA CAOLE - Pleased To Have You

Welsh songwriter JOSHUA CAOLE is currently on tour opening for Christiaan Webb (Jimmy Webb's son). Pleased To Have You comes from Joshua's album Moon Palace which is released later today, Monday April 16th. He plays The Slaughtered Lamb in London on April 24th when he'll have half of The Magic Numbers - who played on his album - joining him on stage.

MARSICANS - Hands

James, Matthew, Joe and Oliver are all aged 17/18, live near Leeds and recently changed their sound and band name to MARSICANS. They'll be appearing early next month at Live At Leeds and their next single 'Scuba' will be getting its premier airplay on 主播大秀 Radio Leeds on May 3rd. "Bowt it really" they say "just try and enjoy鈥"

CITIZENS - Reptile

Another London five piece who avoid putting any factual or biographical information on their various web pages except that their names are Tom, Mike, Lawrence, Martyn and Thom. They do however divulge that Reptile is released as a single today (Monday April 16th) on Kitsun茅, and that they play Ridley Road Market in London on Weds April 18th as a warm-up for upcoming tour dates in Italy and France.

Tom Robinson Tom Robinson | 02:00 UK time, Monday, 9 April 2012

Rebekah Delgado
主播大秀 Introducing on 6 Music is changing. Every Monday from 2am we now bring you a 60 minute mixtape of new tunes from the Introducing Uploader - handpicked by myself - which you can then download for free at 3am via the 6 Music Downloads Page.

We aim to pack in maximum music with minimum speech, so instead of announcing the individual song titles on air, we publish a full tracklisting here at the start of each show, with information about each of the artists and a clickable link to their websites.

Our first episode goes in the small hours of Easter Monday, April 4th 2012, with the following running order:

REBEKAH DELGADO - Little Boy Blue - 2:34

A solo musician from London, who embarked on a solo career in 2010 when her previous band THE LAST ARMY broke up. Live, she's often accompanied by musical saw, violin, harmonium, cello and drums. Her album DON'T SLEEP is due for release April/May 2012

SO WHAT ROBOT - Work & Play - 3:11

Playful Newcastle 4-piece formed mid-2010 from the ashes of 2 well-loved local bands. Inspired by the wonders of modern technology, tall tales of heroic endeavours and whimsical romance. Also: Devo, Adam Ant and The Cardiacs. August 2011 released single A Girl Who Reads.

DAN LENO - Lyme Regis - 3:38

Originally known as MUTLEY - they'd been renamed DAN LENO & THE LIMEHOUSE GOLEMS when they were first recommended to us by Massimo Zeppetelli from Team Freshnet. Lineup includes singer RAPHAEL VERRION's step-dad on drums, but none of the members are called Dan Leno.

KITES - This Jumped Up Boy In Livery - 4:12

A London band consisting of a guitarist, a scholar of electronics, a former percussionist with The Holloways and a foppish pop-poet with a penchant for silk. They release 'This Jumped-Up Boy In Livery' this month, play various festivals this summer and tour the UK and EU for the rest of the year.

LULU JAMES - Rope Mirage - 3:54

Recommended by Ruth Barnes from The Other Woman Music. A 21 year old from Newcastle, she started writting her own music 2 years ago but has always sang. Inspired by James Blake, Jamie Woon, Gill Scott Heron, and Jamie XX. Musical genre: Melodramatic dubhop!!!

BERNHOLZ - Austerity Boy - 4:45

The music project of Jez Berns, with additional members live. Jez devises, writes, performs and produces everything from artwork to videos/animations, to the music itself. This is the debut single, released digitally last month. Album HOW THINGS ARE MADE due Summer 2012.

LOOK STRANGER! - One For The King - 3:41

School science videos and long-lost editions of Tomorrow鈥檚 World provide the alternative 2012 inhabited by LOOK STRANGER! This is title track of their second EP ONE FOR THE KING, due out this Monday (April 9). A huge favourite on the Fresh On The Net listening post.

CHRIS SELMAN - Modern Romance - 2:27

Songwriter Chris Selman is based 'up north' - splitting his time between Leeds and Manchester. 'Modern Romance' is the second single from his album ALL OR NOTHING which was released through iTunes last July. It also has a funny black & white silent-movie-style video.

ALL WE ARE - Red Sky - 3:16

First introduced to us by fellow Liverpudlians Stealing Sheep - with whom they've toured - ALL WE ARE consist of Rich, Guro & Luis. Their 2nd EP (early 2012) was written and filmed in a cabin in Norway - and a church in Walton, Merseyside.

NINETAILS - Rawdon Fever - 3:52

Also from Liverpool, NINETAILS sold out their debut EP, GHOST RIDE THE WHIP, in under two weeks and they're now working towards a debut album. We their single Social Guesswork back in January and Rawdon Fever is their latest single - and both tracks are warmly endorsed by my colleague & fellow blogger Chris Chadwick.

EARLY CARTOGRAPHERS - Thread - 3:16

Primarily a songwriting project for Ed Cartledge, EARLY CARTOGRAPHERS are based in Sheffield. They mainly like playing in parks, allotments, on rooftops and the back rooms of small cafes but are happy to play 'venues' too. Band interests include: Filmmaking, Samba, and Crushing Things With Our Bare Fists.

DEAD SURF COUNTRY - On A Mission - 4:18

Based in Swansea they started out being called "Mark & Meg" but adopted their present name with the change of singer from Meg Williams to Liz Clarke. They recorded new material in Amsterdam's Studio 150 last autumn, which will be due for general release soon.

THE FOLK - When it Rains - 3:24

THE FOLK described themselves as "four engaging, lively 16yr olds who started off busking Mumford and Sons and Florence tracks in the towns of Hertfordshire". They've been playlisted by 主播大秀 Three Counties Radio & this is their debut single, due out at the end of this week.

THE B OF THE BANG - Sharks of the Atomic Atoll - 3:06

So many band biogs bleat on about how great the group is - instead of telling us how interesting they all are - that I make no apology for quoting Wit's short and brilliant CV for TBOTB in full. "The B of the Bang is a collective of human beings who use guitars, loops, mandolins, white noise, xylophones, accordions, banjos, feedback, shouting and percussion to conjur up melodies for maladies in the 21st century. The B of the Bang exists in an age of copyists and bandwagon-jumpers. brigands, blaggards and ne'er do wells. Its sole purpose is to sound unlike anything else you've ever heard whilst sounding exactly like everything else you'd ever want to hear. The B of the Bang is really just the sound of 6 people slowly losing their grip on reality. The B of the Bang will cure gout. And tennis elbow. Thank you."

MAYFLYS - Ayo - 3:23

Based in Kingston Upon Thames with strong Bristol connections, MAYFLYS are fronted by French-born Aurelie Konter. Following the success of a selfproduced first EP as MAYFLY TRIO, they recently released a full lineup followup called "Don't Mind If I Don't".

PREMISE BEACH - Hold Me Now - 4:06

The project of Jon Covell, a Manchester-based songwriter and intermittent home-recorder. While studying design at college, Jon bought a 4-track tape recorder and has been writing, playing, recording & experimenting ever since. "Hold Me Now" is the second instalment in a series of digital singles released bimonthly on the PURE CASUAL label. Due out April 30th

STYLUSBOY - Whole Picture - 3:11

Stylusboy is the acoustic creation of Steve Jones, a Coventry bred guitarist and vocalist who cut his teeth in bands, before stripping down his sound, and venturing into the wilderness to produce his own personal blend of lo-fi alternative folk. This is the title track of an EP released last June.

CAJITA - Dont Panic - 5:53

Cajita is Jay Chakravorty, a multi-instrumentalist one-man-band from Bristol, recently moved to London. He'll be playing a London show at The Half Moon in Herne Hill this Weds, April 11 as a special guest at the launch party for SHE MAKES WAR's 2nd album. NB: Herne Hill is near Brixton - it's a different venue from The Half Moon in Putney.
