Mistresses was filmed inside my house

Some months ago, a letter was posted through our door from a production company looking for a possible house location for Mistresses. I phoned the location manager and arranged for her to pop round and see if our house would be suitable.

I didn't really have much hope as the place is pretty tatty, but thought it worth a punt. If nothing else, we thought our 10-year-old daughter Maia would find it interesting. I made the whole family spend all weekend cleaning and tidying before the visit.

Dee, the professional and approachable location manager, was surprisingly positive. Over the next six weeks, we had an inspection visit every week from what seemed to be everybody in the film industry bar the gaffer, building up to the director and producer and culminating in a firm's outing of 25 arriving by .

Then the Man From , he say Yes. We were all chuffed and excited but not certain how it would be received in our street. After a wee bit of friendly haggling, contracts were duly agreed and signed.

The character Trudi's taste is very different to ours. The painters moved in and transformed all the rooms they were filming in, using some very strange colours.

It was unnerving having your house redressed and decorated in colours you would never choose or even think of but we actually decided to keep the striking, deep plum colour chosen for the kitchen. We were pretty happy too when they fixed our garden balcony stairs. Shame the stained ceiling wasn't going to be in the shot as well!

The filming schedule eventually crept up from the planned six days to 18 days but moving out wasn't a great hardship as we went to Majorca for 10 days. Unfortunately it rained the whole time - not something the production company could fix!

We only had to stay in an apartment for a week on our return, which was great because any longer, would have driven us all mad. Being out of your house for so long is unsettling and we were very glad to go home when the 18 days were up.

The production team were always helpful and made it clear we could go back to the house during filming anytime we liked as long as we let them know. It was usually easier to go back in the evening when they had all gone home and tiptoeing round Trudi's house was a strange experience.

We went to watch filming one day and got to meet the gorgeous who lived up to all expectations when she greeted Maia with her inimitable beatific smile - "Hello sweetie" - and a big cuddle. All the crew and cast were really friendly and made a huge fuss of our star-struck daughter (and Dad!).

Our neighbours were by and large fine with the experience and supportive. They had enjoyed the star-spotting. The film crew had been as helpful as they could be, helping people with their shopping and moving their vans if need be.

Overall, it was a very positive experience for us as a family. We enjoyed the banter with the props crew, James, John and Jane and we'd definitely do it again.

Claire Bush is the real life homeowner of the house used as Trudi's home in Mistresses.

Mistresses starts at 9pm on Thursday, 5 August on Ö÷²¥´óÐã One and Ö÷²¥´óÐã HD.

Hi, I am a huge fan of Mistresses, living in Amsterdam. Could anyone explain to me why it is impossible for me to see the films on the Ö÷²¥´óÐã Mistresses website? Would love to see them. Thanks!

  • Comment number 5.

Hi Maggie. Really sorry but because of the way that the Ö÷²¥´óÐã is funded in the UK through the licence fee, it means we usually can't make videos available outside of the UK, which is why the videos aren't available for viewing in Amsterdam.

Agree with previous comment regarding the music at the wedding reception. Is it possible to find out the playlist?

can anybody help me by telling me the name of the artwork in siobhans house mainly in the dinning area. I have been looking on the internet trying to find something similar.

Question for the wardrobe department at Mistresses. In the most recent episode Siobhan wore a beautiful white twist neck t-shirt in the scene where she collected photos of her daughter's birthday party. Where could I find one the same?

Just returned from holiday and finally got to catch up and see all the three episodes. As ever an amazing drama which has not disappointed. I wasn't sure about the casting of Joanna Lumbley but she really works in it. Can someone tell me why when a series as popular as this gets axed after only three series. I can't believe when the Ö÷²¥´óÐã hit the jackpot with Mistresses they cut a high quality program like this short. Big mistake that will leave many a license fee payer immensely sad. Please please please bring it back!!!!!

After seeing Siobhan's lovely light green garden bench in a recent episode, I've searched and searched everywhere for something similar to no avail. Does anybody know where I can get this bench? Thanks for any help.

Question for the wardrobe department at Mistresses. In the third episode of the series, Siobhan wore a beautiful white twist neck t-shirt in the scene where she collected photos of her daughter's birthday party. Please can you let me know where it is from?

I'm sad that this is the last series for Mistresses, as I've really enjoyed this stylish drama. A brilliant story, absolutely superbly acted. It's so refreshing to see a prime-time programme with strong, believable female leads, and then give them a cracking script and watch it fly. Fantastic.

Re: Caroline's question relating to the wardrobe for the series - the white twist neck t-shirt, I loved it too! I saw a very similar one in grey, on the website for a fashion brand that sounds like queue (bit concerned about advertising the brand, but you should find it ok). Now for that lovely grey linen jacket worn by Trudie....

Please, Ö÷²¥´óÐã ...Misstresses is a must ....Dont tell us it will never return !!

Sitting here expecting episode 5 of series three and absolutely gutted you have stopped it here - there is so much more to tell and no future series? Ö÷²¥´óÐã you have let yourselves down and your tax payers! It is such an amazing series that connects with so many people on so many levels - everyone can identify something within it. Congratulations on all the actors and actresses who really made this something we want to run as long as Friends - please come back missing it............upset......gutted viewer.

I meant to say license fee payers and not tax payers! from gutted viewer.....

I have watched most of the episodes apart from the last one. It's a shame that Ö÷²¥´óÐã produced series are available on iPlayer for one week only.

Hi there - thanks so much for your positive comments on Mistresses - it will be missed by us at the Ö÷²¥´óÐã too. We've all enjoyed creating it and the four girls were great fun to work with - there will definitely be a big gap in out lives now that the series has come to an end.

With regards to the questions on this blog - I'm going to look in to getting some information on the clothes/benches/art work etc and will post on here as soon as I find out. I was myself constantly asking the costume designer about the clothes - they're so stylish and unusual.

Thanks again for your passionate support - I'll be back soon with some info.

Is there any chance of another series???????????? Please tell us

Hi again - as promised Akinrinlade and Queenie53, here are the tracks played in the wedding reception. The piano music, and most of the music throughout is scored by a composer - he's really enhanced the drama and made special moments even more special with his wonderful music.

Coming Up Easy - Paolo Nutini
    Do It Fluid - Blackbyrds
My Last Tango - Nerina Pallot
Seven More Days - Terence Trent D'Arby
Sign Your Name - Terence Trent D'Arby

Many of you liked the bench in Siobhan's garden - The Art Department inform me that it was hired from a company called Granger Hertzog. The dining room art work, Ajgreen, was hired from Chase 55 and the artist is Humphrey Bangham.

I'll be back with info about the clothes soon.

    Bye for now

    Gwawr

Another question for the wardrobe department at Mistresses. Can you please tell me where the gorgeous green military coat that Siobhan was wearing in the last series is from? It was stunning and so perfect for the A/W!

  • Comment number 28.

Love the theme music to misstresses is there anyone who will let us know what it is.....seems bit of a secret !!

  • Comment number 29.

Hi Gwawr - do you think you could find out what brand/shade of green paint was used in Siobhan's cottage?

    Thanks very much!

  • Comment number 30.

Please please please bring Mistresses back for another series! It is so amazing, please?

  • Comment number 31.

Hi - have been in touch with the costume designer and she's provided some information on the outfits:
Siobhan's twist t-shirt that so many of you loved was Nicole Fahri.
Trudi's linen jacket, Lemonbiscuit, was from Kew and Casey, Siobhan's military jacket was from Mango.
As for the series music, rNev, there's no secret! It is scored music. written by a composer especially for the series - it's rather wonderful.

Thanks again for all your comments and for taking such an interest in Mistresses.

Gwawr Lloyd, Development Executive Ö÷²¥´óÐã Wales Drama.

Lots of thanks Gwawr for your reply at #26 regarding the piano music. I can now let my friend in Holland know! She is an avid watcher of Ö÷²¥´óÐã1, especially The Mistresses - one more vote for another series!

Hi Gwawr - I am hoping you can help as you seem to be a star at answering everyones questions.
I am a fan from the other side of the world - New Zealand and we are waiting with baited breath for series 3 so I still have that to look forward to and enjoy!!!
In series 1 (about episode ?3 just after Kate has had a liaison in a hotel room with a guy she met in the bar)there was a fantastic song when Hari was in the kitchen cooking dinner for Siobhan. It was the anniversary of the first time they had met. The lyrics sound something like "fly away............you lay me down....don't carry on" but I would love to know the title and singer?? Please help!!
    Thanks for a fantastic show.
    Denise

I just saw the very last episode of Mistresses (in Denmark), and I feel so empty inside now that it is all over. I miss Dominic so much, I am sure I love him as much as Siobhan ;)
Thanks for a great show, I hope I can get hold of a dvd box (if a such exists).
