Women dominate 2010 Dylan Thomas Prize shortlist

Five of the six shortlisted authors up for the prestigious are women, it has been announced.

A six-strong shortlist for the £30,000 prize, which is now awarded annually, has been revealed from a longlist of 16 - with the young authors hailing from five continents. Of the six works, two are collections of poetry while the other four are novels.

The shortlisted authors and their works are: Caroline Bird, Watering Can; Elyse Fenton, Clamor; Eleanor Catton, The Rehearsal; Emily Mackie, And This is True; Karan Mahajan, Family Planning and Nadifa Mohamed, Black Mamba Boy.
