Adam Walton playlist and show info: Sunday 6 December 2009

This week's show is a Self Raising Records special. Neath's Rod Thomas is one of Wales' most skilled tunesmiths. His ability to silver the ear with sophisticated pop melodies is second-to-none. It's an ability that has propelled him through a dizzying 2009.

Listen again until Sunday, and view the show's playlist.

He was flown out to L.A. to work with Boom Bip (Gruff Rhys' foil in Neon Neon); had instrumental versions of his songs purloined for national T.V. advertising campaigns, and took his one-man show everywhere from Swn to SXSW (Austin, Texas) to a support slot with the Noisettes at the cavernous Shepherds Bush Empire.

Rod's own musical project is the aptly named Bright Light Bright Light, but Self Raising Records isn't just a vanity project. We hear some of the other artists on the label, including Swansea's Martipants, and three of Wales' finest producers - Mark from Gallops, Friends Electric and Soundhog - get their remixing paws on one of Bright Light Bright Light's tracks with intriguing and varied results.

Elsewhere in the show, Huw Pooh finds a pre-fame Aimee Duffy collaborating with Manchester's Mint Royale; Soundhog takes us back to the early days of the remix with an instrumental cut of a reggae classic, and Lara Catrin comes in to help our appreciation of the Welsh language by translating a classic song sung in Welsh. This week it's the Furries and Ysbeidiau Heulog.

And, as always, there is a broad swathe cut through the most interesting Welsh music that has arrived in my cubbyhole.

Any tunes / thoughts / gig info etc. can be sent to: themysterytour@gmail.com

Thanks for listening!
