I am a music enthusiast, I appreciate all music and am open to everything. But there are so many things wrong with this blog, and yes I know this is personal opinion. But research my friend, is key.
Firstly, Kerrang!, what have they done eh? Kerrang! are actually everything they appear to hate, mainstream. Lost Prophets, You Me At Six, BFMV - this is not rock or metal - just because they dress in black and scream a little bit does not define them. I would actually be happier if Biffy Clyro won Best British Band, they may be absolutely atrocious now but at least when they started out they were making good music. It all went downhill after Infinity Land, their third album. I blame the disgustingly catchy line "I am the mountain, I am the sea".
The fact that BFMV have won this award three years in a row is really quite bewildering. The amount of fantastic bands in Britain right now is really going to waste, music is all about change. Yet whenever I see a Kerrang! TV advert I see the likes of Slipknot, Blink 182, a clip of the Lostprophets video for Rooftops which was released what, four/five years ago? Have a listen to the Black Dahlia Murder, Every Time I Die, Ghost of A Thousand, The Bronx, The Ghost Inside - this, is what people interested in the genre listen to.
And here's a little story. A friends band, Surfaces - a 5 piece metal band based in Brighton who are due to start a European tour later on this year - a friend of the band was wearing one of their tshirts in America while on holiday, an American man approached her in the street to express how much he also enjoyed their music. SO for the "there's no absolutely massive UK rock or metal band who would be recognisable to the average man on the street" comment, I guess that's wrong - and they're not even absolutely massive.
Anyway, rant over.

It's true that Lostprophets have moved away from their massive songs associated with Start Something, but they are still far more recognizable and have achieved much more than Bullet For My Valentine. Bullet may be regarded as the best British band these last 3 years, but over the last 10 years, Bullet are no competition for Lostprophets.

Is this guy trying to have a laugh. Any average man in the street in any country would easily recognise the mighty Iron Maiden, who happen to be British, and also happen to be the greatest metal band to ever live. Ok, they may not be a new band, but they are still a far superior band to the likes of bullet for my valentine and lostprophets. I also think bullet for my valentine have changed quite a bit. In their earlier albums, they used scream vacals quite alot, but later on they changed that and became alot more mainstream. I lost alot of respect for them for that.

Also if you want a good metal band, go to sweden and finland there is lots of them that havent got the fame they deserve.

Machineheadfan, the average man in the street would not recognise Maiden, infact the average man would not even recognise one of theirs hits should it be playing.

Metal music has a minority share of the music buying public, because its in the mainstream shadows, while media "experts" would have you believe its in the shadows BECAUSE it holds a minority fan base, this is rubbish.

Whilst the market for Metal is not limitless it won't ever achieve it's potential in this country because no medium is bold or brave enough to take a chance on it, Kerrang! and Metal Hammer fight valiantly but their publications are ultimately juvenile, poorly written and failing to capture the innovators from the off set, prefering instead to cover safe, but turgid middle of the road bands. Only in Terrorizer and the 'Subterranean' section of the afore mentioned Metal Hammer magazine do bands that actually push any boundaries get any coverage.

Whilst bands such as Gojira and Opeth have seen a large amount of coverage, other experimental or progressive metal bands have been neglected, but will no doubt appear once they've released a solid second album.

In regards to the original blog, I think its a very sad state of affiars if BFMV really are the best Britsh rock/metal band, but the Kerrang! readership voted, and that somes their target market up.

Hiya, I'm a 20 old female and off the top of my head "Run To The Hills", and who could forget Eddie? It's not even my era, and I am not an Iron Maiden fan so... I guess we need some sort of survey of Britain really..

I'm 18 years old and i love BFMV, i have seen them twice and am going to see them at Wembley in December, they are one of the best bands in Britain today, lostprophets where good but started to go down hill, Biffy Clyro are a good band but are still no match for bullet, most people who listen to rock and metal will know and like bullet for my valentine, i also love Iron Maiden, but great as they are times are changing, i read Kerrang! every week because it's one of the best mainstream rock and metal mags, if you want to find out about your favourite band chances are they will be in Kerrang! poeple who don't read Kerrang! either don't like that music or think it's too mainstream
