Bank holiday weekend weather

Derek Brockway Derek Brockway | 09:59 UK time, Friday, 28 August 2009

The weather is more like Autumn today: cool and windy with heavy, blustery showers and gusty winds.

Saturday looks better. A mixture of broken cloud, bright or sunny intervals and scattered, mainly light, showers. Most of the cloud and showers in the north and west, especially on the Snowdonia and the Cambrian Mountains. Southern and eastern counties largely dry with a little more sunshine. Breezy with highest temperatures 16 to 18 Celsius.

Sunday may start dry and bright but the weather will gradually close in with outbreaks of mainly light rain and drizzle spreading from the west. The cloud lowering too with hill fog in the afternoon. Top temperatures 17 to 20 Celsius. Winds light at first becoming moderate to fresh south to south-westerly.

Bank Holiday Monday some uncertainty. A cloudy, damp start with a little rain and drizzle, mainly in the west and north west especially on high ground with hill fog. During the day most places may become dry and brighter. The best chance of a little sunshine in the south east and north-east. Feeling muggy. Top temperatures 17 to 21 Celsius with a moderate to fresh south to south-westerly breeze. The wind strong and gusty in the west and in north west Wales.
