The rain in Spain

Derek Brockway Derek Brockway | 16:37 UK time, Tuesday, 15 September 2009

The weather was pretty awesome over the weekend. The best weekend we've had in ages but the nights were chilly with clear skies.

Temperatures at Trawsgoed in Ceredigion fell to 4 Celsius but by day it was warm and sunny.

12 hours of sunshine at Aberporth and at RAF Valley on Anglesey while Pembrey in Carmarthenshire was the hot spot on Saturday afternoon with 22 Celsius recorded - a few degrees above the September average.

Since then its turned cooler with some cloud and a North Easterly breeze but the dry weather is set to continue for a few more days thanks to high pressure extending from the Atlantic into Scandinavia.

Now they say 'the rain in Spain stays mainly on the plane' but often when the weather is good in Wales the heavens open on the Spanish Costas.

Indeed pressure is low across much of Iberia and the Mediterranean at the moment with scattered heavy showers and thunderstorms.

Not much fun if you're on holiday but some welcome rain for many farmers after a long and hot summer.
