I spoke to the FA this morning and England are playing in white (blue shorts, white socks) on Sunday (shame).
I am trying to find out more about the rules which govern kit selection -one colleague suggests the colours alternate between international fixtures of the two teams in question (hence if we played Argentina we would also play in white as we wore red last time).
But as we've not played Ecuador before I'm trying to find out how the decision was reached.
Anyone have any more info?

I must admit England havent made the best possible start but hey I've been impressed with the team overall. Sven is never going to win over the british media although his track records have proved he is statistically really good at his job.But he does need more passion,needs to take a few risks and make substitutions that are going to win games!!How does everybody feel about the England squad,somebody give me some confidence boosters!!

Surprise, surprise, Chelsea have got a relatively kind fixture list following Mourinho's outburst at the fixtures computer last week.

Christmas fixtures against Wigan (a), Reading (h), Fulham (h) and Aston Villa (a) look about as fearsome as Postman Pat.

I am surprised that the Beeb and ITV don't have an agreement in place before the tournament as to who will show what (with all the various permutations covered as well).

Perhaps I might get an answer (at last!) to a question which has been bugging me rotten.........

I live in Sweden but am English and if there's one thing that bugs the hell out of me it's Swedish TV 'commentating', and I use the term very loosely. It's diabolical! I used to be able to tune out (haha) but now I speak the language, I can understand the utter banality of what these people say.

So I tried to get good ole Beeb R5 Live on the mac whilst watching the live TV pics. Sometimes this works and I can live with the 1-10 second difference in feeds too.

But in bigger games like the World Cup or even Premiership matches, I get the message that only UK listeners can access the live commentary.

Why?

Brazil v Japan, why is this dead rubber of a game the featured game on both 主播大秀1 and Radio 5. Surely the 'winner takes all' game between Australia and Croatia is a more important fixture. To the many areas of the UK still without digital coverage, this is a joke.

I'm surprised 主播大秀 are only announcing the first four games. ITV's website are announcing the split for all eight of the games, which gives each broadcaster four games.

This means, whereas 主播大秀 get the England game and the Argentina game, and possibly Switzerland v Ukraine; ITV gets Portugal v Holland, a possible Italy/Czech Republic v Australia game, possible Brazil v Italy/Czech/Ghana and possibly Spain v France

ITV and 主播大秀 have agreed the division of the 2006 FIFA World Cup second round games, to be played from Saturday 24 June to Tuesday 27 June.

ITV's games include the clash between Portugal and Holland, the winner of which would face either England or Ecuador in the quarter-finals.

I've recovered somewhat from the nerves, depression and angst of Tuesday night.

I'm thinking ahead to Sunday's game and have my own ideas about what should be done.... though it's contraversial:

I'd play a 4-5-1 for the first half. Back four unchanged from last match with Hargreaves in the holding position, Beckham, Gerrard, Lampard and Cole in their usual roles and Crouch upfront (allowing Rooney to conserve himself for the second half when everyone else's legs will be tiring and he won't tire due to his for still returning.).

In the second half I'd be far more aggressive on the flanks and switch to the 4-4-2 midfield diamond. I'd pull the trick Sven used against Trinidad and Tobago and sub Carragher for Lennon, dropping Beckham to Right Back as amazingly that seemed to work. I'd bring on Rooney for Lampard and push Gerrard up a bit. The final substitution would depend on ouir performance and what we wanted to achieve. I'd either refresh Hargreaves tiring legs with Carrick or switch Crouch for Walcott as the opposition defence tire.

What do you guys think?

I'm still highly concerned about the ball! I believe if it is hit from ground level it has an uncontrollable urge to levitate wildly. How many shots have we seen drilled above the crossbar? My advice is to aim just a little bit lower than normal when shooting from range.

Awesome - but who gets the commentary - Motson or Pierce? For those who don't want to wait til Sunday to find out the score, England will win 3-0, and Rooney will be stretchered off after 66 minutes with a suspected broken metatarsal after a cynical foul by de la Cruz, who will therefore be booed at every Villa game until he leaves by mutual agreement in the January transfer window, leaving Crouch to partner Walcott in the QF against Holland. Remember, you read it here first!

Our own highly overpaid bling bling football stars lack any fire or enthusiasm for the game. How refreshing to see some of the newcomers and smaller teams make a mockery of international football. The england squad have absolutely no sense of national pride. They are out of touch with reality and only worry about the kudos of being included in the national side. It doesn't help having the most uninspiring man on the planet as manager either.

Let's face it - England are crap and have somehow muddled their way to the top of the group. I look forward to a humiliating defeat at the hands of Equador

According to the offical world cup site we are the 'home' team, so maybe we had the choice of which kit to wear. When we played Argentina at France '98 I remember they were the 'home' team and decided to wear their away kit. In Japan they were also the 'home' but stuck to their traditional colours, so we wore read.

Excellent, this means ITV have finally posted the times for the Canadian Grand Prix coverage ;)

However, coverage starts at 5pm... do I feel patriotic enough to watch the england match all the way through or do I flick channels at half time? What a dilemma..

I agree that the Australia v Croatia gameis more crucial but it's on 主播大秀3 and a freeview box is about 拢25 from a supermarket now so it's not too hard to give yourself the choice. Although our 主播大秀3 reception is a bit iffy!

As for the 2nd round split of matches how have the 主播大秀 got away with it?! 3 weekend games and a weekday evening kick off leaving ITV with 2 afternoon kick offs in the week where whatever the matches are the viewing will be lower because a lot of people will be at work.

主播大秀 definitely seem to have by far the best of these matches I'd say.

Messed up last night when outside of South Africa, one channel showed Ivory Coast vs Serbia and Montenegro, whilst the other channel showed Ivory Costa vs Serbia and Monenegro.

Good job it wasn't the other way around or Africa would still be asleep!!

I have just been at 3 games in the world cup. The atmosphere was something I never imagined it could be. The iranians were almost inline with the english support, countries unified in celebration before and after each game. A freeview box where I live is as much use as a chocolate teapot, I believe digital reception is planned for about 2017 - this is my point - why is the Brazil/Japan game the feature on BOTH 主播大秀1 and Radio 5. I will not be able to either watch or listen to the Aussie/Croatia game

Well done 主播大秀 at last I do not have to put up with ITV and their damn advert breaks and also rushing the pundits so they can go to some rubbish soap, make sure you get all the rest untill the final.

Andrew - can you not watch the online streaming of the Aussie game, or listen to the sports extra coverage online.

Saying that, I'm sure they said on Radio 5 last night that they'd decided to put the Aussie game on the main channel as there was more riding on the game, and Brazil would be on sports extra.

It is great news that you could make a schedule with ITV as it was a headache of the fans to watch the knock out matches uninterruptedly. 主播大秀 is still in its way to go with the football craze as it will be watching the matches in the website too and radio commentary is also still on Radio Five Live.

The answer to the question posed by Jim in Sweden (comment 11) is that the 主播大秀 does not have the rights to stream Five Live commentaries of the World Cup or Premiership overseas. For competitions like this, we sign complex rights agreements with the governing bodies which stipulate that we must only stream within the UK. Sorry about that.
