World Cup 2006 Blog

From our reporters in Germany

Four days to go

LONDON - Lots of you were happy to hear about our deal to stream the World Cup on broadband, though the main gripe appears to be 'why can't I watch overseas'.

(To : 1. Fifa won't let us. 2. It would cost too much even if they did 3. It's not our money, it comes from UK licence-fee payers)

For those of you living in the States (who seem most disappointed by the UK-only restrictions) there is a on how to watch/listen.

While we of course will be doing it legally, it seems the .

With this World Cup set to be possibly the , they'll have their hands full. With only 15 of the games in office hours..

..I suppose most people will still be watching on a TV despite our broadband offering. Those 15 games don't include the 5pm kick-offs of course, for which I'm guessing most people will leave early and find a pub...

On that note, has started compiling a list of all the places in the UK where you might want to watch a game, depending on your nationality.

Which might help our friend .

On the football, England leave today and our contributor Claire Heald will sending updates from Luton airport, though she sadly won't be joining them for a bit of R&R in their .

I don't what they'll be listening to on their team bus, but given , it's got to be Mozart.

Unlikely of course, if two-metre Peter is choosing the CDs...
Good to see he came out top in your - is he going to be the ?

Little snippet on the news wires earlier quoting Sven as saying Roque Santa Cruz is Paraguay's
likely threat. "He's an extremely important player for them. He's a second
striker, he can play behind one striker or he can play behind two. I think he's their best player."

On an unrelated note, a decent (who we will probably play if we finish second in our group), from our South American reporter Tim Vickery.

Aware about licence fee payers. I was one for 30 years. Here's a thought. Charge a fee so oversea's ex-pats can watch/listen to the games online. That goes for premiership games as well. Or won't FIFA or the FA let you......
