    About This Event

    From Westminster Bridge and the bells of Big Ben to Bloomsbury Square, in his A London Symphony Vaughan Williams depicts the English capital, where horses still trotted through the streets and the countryside could be glimpsed from Marble Arch. Elgar鈥檚 鈥榮tout and steaky鈥� picture-postcard scenes of London life join anniversary composer Holst鈥檚 Hammersmith, commissioned for the 主播大秀 Military Band, in saluting the city. Vaughan Williams鈥檚 teacher Stanford (who died 100 years ago) completes the programme, with a selection of reflective songs performed by leading British baritone Christopher Maltman.
