Exchange day for night in this unusual show garden.

Within a blacked-out marquee Kari Beardsell has used eco and plant friendly LED lighting to transform her garden. Familiar hedges, flowers and structures become unfamiliar and theatrical thanks to a variety of lighting techniques.

Polished sandstone with its glittering mineral elements adds sparkle to the hard-landscaping and within, at the centre of the garden, a pond with a glowing fountain not only adds further glittering elements to the garden but also sound.

Plants used are also suited to the night, especially Ipomea alba, a climber with trumpet flowers which only open at night. Other night-pollinated plants have been used to encourage pollinators which prefer the cover of darkness. White flowers and white tree bark pick-up and reflect any vestige of light whilst night-scented plants add yet another sensuous dimension.
