Glastonbury Heroes!

Find out about the successes of Leicester band The Heroes to date, including their amazing performance at Glastonbury 2009. Listen to the interviews, plus hear one of their tracks.

It's been quite a year for The Heroes.

In 2008 the Leicester band emerged triumphant from a 主播大秀 search on The Beat to find a new local talent to open the main stage at the Summer Sundae Weekender.

And now they are freshly returned from their first visit to Glastonbury as festival-goers... and performers.

The Beat's Dean Jackson spoke to Rooster from The Heroes in the build up to their set, and Tom Whalley caught up with the band as they tumbled off the stage at Glastonbury...

The Heroes were put forward by The Beat to stand up against unsigned bands from around the country in a prestigious selection process.

The judging panel was made up from top music insiders, including 主播大秀 Steve Lamacq and Huw Stephens, and Glastonbury organiser Emily Eavis, who selected the cream of the crop.

Votes were cast and Leicester's indie-rock band were given the honour of opening the 主播大秀 Introducing Stage at Glastonbury.

Rooster, aka Alex van Rosse, said all four lads were hugely excited when they heard the news and couldn't wait to get to the festival:

"I got a phone call about. Got the email, we all sat together and looked at one computer screen - we just couldn't believe it."

After The Set

After a few initial ticket problems which saw the band kipping in their van on the night before their Friday gig, The Heroes made it to Glasto!

It seems the wait was worth it - the band played a triumphant seven song set to a healthy crowd of soon-to-be and already converted fans.

Take a look at videos and photos of the The Heroes performance...

Alex Totman said, "I was a bit nervous but not too much. I was just nervous about how it sounded out front, how it sounded on stage - all that sort of stuff."

"Personally for me it went really well. Just need to treat it like a normal gig really - I just hope it went down really well."

Back to Reality

主播大秀 Leicester's Phil Hilton spoke to Rooster from The Heroes a fortnight after their set at Glastonbury to reflect. Listen to the interview plus hear their track Flowers In Golden Times...

Rooster said they were not used to playing outside, and to an audience who weren't largely made up of Leicester residents - but it had been a great experience:

"We've got probably about two hours worth of songs, but half an hour we've worked really hard to make it top notch."

Although the band didn't spot any celebs in the crowd, they did bump into ex-Libertines and current Dirty Pretty Things singer Carl Barat.

Now back in Leicester the band are concentrating on new material and practicing in their underground studio for their slot at year's Summer Sundae in August:

"Hopefully everyone will join The Heroes bandwagon and keep giving us all the support.

"Obviously all the fan support we've had has helped us to an extent and fingers crossed we'll be doing bigger and better things in the future."
