Hughie O鈥橠onoghue was born in Manchester and now lives and works in Ireland. The exhibition includes a spectacular new work specially created for the museum. The remaining works were previously shown at Imperial War Museum London.

"The unpredictability of the architecture - including two aluminium-clad walls that pierce the exhibition space, a ceiling that plummets in one corner and swoops up in another - presents both a challenge and an opportunity in terms of exhibition design and content," commented Michael Simpson, Head of Exhibitions at Imperial War Museum North. "Hughie O'Donoghue has worked for many years making epic paintings, both in scale and subject."

IWM North's special exhibition programme covers a wide range of subjects and range of mediums to communicate the Museum's central message of War Shapes Lives.

"Painting Caserta Red demonstrates that fine art is a strong means for communicating how war and conflict shape all our lives," said Mr Simpson.

The programme of future exhibitions will include art from the Imperial War Museum's extraordinary collections combined with work by contemporary artists.
