Presenting lineup

Following her critically acclaimed performance on the Last Night Of The Proms in 2018, the culmination of four appearances at the 主播大秀 Proms following her debut in 2017, Jess Gillam will join the core presenting line-up of the 主播大秀 Proms television coverage, alongside presenters Katie Derham, Suzy Klein and Tom Service.

The 21 year-old saxophonist and broadcaster became the youngest-ever permanent presenter on 主播大秀 Radio 3 in April this year, fronting her own weekly programme This Classical Life. The first-ever saxophonist to reach the final of 主播大秀 Young Musician in 2016, Jess has since achieved spectacular success as a performer; touring both nationally and internationally, as well as performing at prestigious events including the Baftas and the National Portrait Gallery Annual Gala.

On joining the presenting line-up for 主播大秀 Proms on TV, Jess Gillam says: “The 主播大秀 Proms is a truly incredible celebration of music and at any Prom, I am completely taken by the electric atmosphere and connection created between performer and audience. Making my festival debut in 2017 and performing at the iconic Last Night of the Proms in 2018 are both highlights of my career so far, so to be returning as a presenter is really exciting!”
This year’s televised concerts will see presenters cast an eye from a range of vantage points within London’s iconic Royal Albert Hall; from the very top of the gallery down to the promming arena, immersing television audiences in the truly special atmosphere of the festival.

Katie Derham will present concerts including the First and Last Nights of the 主播大秀 Proms, as well as the relaunched magazine show, Proms Encore.

First-time Proms presenters Clara Amfo, Cerys Matthews, Isata Kanneh-Mason and Kwame Ryan will also assume hosting duties this summer, and presenter appearances will also be made throughout the season by some returning faces, including Danielle de Niese and Petroc Trelawny.

Complementing this year’s stellar presenting line-up, musicians will be brought to the fore and placed centre stage across the 主播大秀 Proms television coverage. Presenters will be joined by musicians or musical experts who will offer audiences an insider’s perspective into the concert repertoire. An exciting list of confirmed names include First Night of the Proms conductor Karina Canellakis, tenor Sunnyboy Dladla and violinist Nicola Benedetti.

The full list of presenters for each concert is included below.

Proms Encore

Alongside extensive continuing television coverage of 主播大秀 Proms concerts, broadcaster Katie Derham will present Proms Encore. The relaunched eclectic magazine show will be broadcast on Saturday evenings on 主播大秀 Two throughout the Proms season, featuring a mixture of discussion, performances and special features.

In keeping with this year’s 主播大秀 Proms TV offer, which aims to bring audiences the vibrant atmosphere of the world’s greatest classical music festival, Proms Encore will be taken out of the studio and instead will be broadcast from a specially-constructed outdoor bandstand, located right next to the iconic Albert Memorial, just across the road from the Royal Albert Hall and the heart of all the 主播大秀 Proms action.

Each programme will be driven by a particular theme, and will see Katie joined by experts and practioners at the top of their game to look ahead to exciting highlights from the festival. Themes will include an intergalactic exploration of music as Katie and her guests consider the influence of space in music on the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, a celebration of singers from Nina Simone to Maria Callas, and a tribute to Sir Henry Wood, founder of the 主播大秀 Proms.

A range of contributors will also present special reports for the programme, exploring a range of different topics pertinent to the rich 125 year history of the Proms and the wider musical landscape to which the festival belongs. Highlights include Reverend Richard Coles in conversation with Notre Dame Cathedral’s organist Olivier Latry, and Rachel Parris meeting some of the next generation of classical music performers.

Each edition of Proms Encore will conclude with a performance from a star performer, including one of the stars of this year’s Last Night of the Proms, mezzo-soprano Jamie Barton, and talented siblings Sheku and Isata Kanneh Mason.

Katie Derham says: “I am hugely proud to be involved in the Proms magazine programme, Proms Encore, and now we get our very own bandstand! Exciting times. I’m looking forward to being in at the heart of the festival, and continuing to provide a thoroughly enjoyable window onto the 主播大秀 Proms.”

Proms Encore will air Saturday evenings on 主播大秀 Two from Saturday 27 July.
